Please watch Rui Costa's most recent Interview, Enzo wanted to leave, Benfica did everything to keep him, but ultimately you cant keep a player that doesnt love the club, they even tried a Deal where Chelsea pays way less for Enzo and we can keep him more 6months, Enzo wanted to go now, we did everything and he took a piss on benfica, so go away Enzo, he's not welcome
I had no idea you were a Benfica supporter I find that so cool. I’m a Benfica fan and grew up in Portugal but live in Canada now but I still support Benfica and watch every game. It’s nice to see someone that isn’t Portuguese be a Benfiquista.
another Portuguese Canadian, well I was born in Canada parents born in the Azores and it seems Adrian is the same Canadian born with Portuguese parents!
The thing that surprises me the most, other than his obvious talent, is his bold personality, he walks into any team and feels no pressure what so ever, walked into Argentina's starting 11 and it felt like he was always there, you can even feel how his teammates felt like they knew him for years, and he played less than 5 games with the national team, he did the exact same thing with Benfica, River Plate and Defensa y Justicia.
Chelsea is going to be a force if Potter gets it right. I love the players and the mentality but I have been questioning Potter's decision-making myself. Lately the games look dull and disorganized until the second half when changes have been made and they start actually getting the ball at other peoples feet other than Thiago Silva.
Sorry but Potter is not good enough for Chelsea ambitions. No sign of improvement, still insist on the same tactics, keep trying with a player who don't know how to score more than 15 goals in one season as a striker and leaving the only striker that has on the bench. Aubameyang is not at his best but he knows how to score goals.
@Davis Cook Were you worried about Potter when he did the double over Milan? Potter got shafted by injuries, and that's not an excuse. We lost our best players in positions that are near irreplaceable. This squad at its best, AT ITS BEST, finished 19pts off the top. -19pts! We are 21pts off Arsenal with ±10 players out injured, or returning. Knee cap that many of the first team at any club in top division and there form will dip. Potter will come good. He took a squad that looked lost under Tuchel for months, bar a few games here & there, and gave them new life prior to injury crisis. I swear Chelsea fans have less faith than atheist.
@@reduneyconceicao3420 Funny, how you would have managed with the list of injuries he's had, a Liverpool with less is struggling as bad. He's got the talents now, so let's see what he can do..Less you forget the initial run of games before the injury struck.
@@cg3518 How many players do Chelsea need to buy and ruin to stop the fans from whining about how little personele you have every time you lose? Pathetic😂
As a Chelsea fan who was too young to experience the mad dashes of 2003 and 2004, this feels pretty good. Mudryk looks top quality, Badiashile has slotted in seamlessly, and Enzo looks like the diamond in the middle. Add to that Nkunku and Gusto coming in the summer, Colwill coming in and competing, James, Chilwell, and Kante back from injury, and Mount having a summer off to recuperate and get some form back... We might have the best team in the world.
When you have so much money up your arse and zero club business ethiquette, it's not that hard and impossible to have a super team :), enjoy your players.
@@davmartcv with that mentality every big club in the world would have a super team, it definitely helps but look as PSG money doesn’t always win trophies
@@davmartcv Thanks David. You're damn right I'm going to enjoy getting some of the best players in the game, and pissing everyone else off in the process :)
As a Benfica fan, I am gutted about how this panned out. At the end of the day, no player is bigger than the club. So I'm not too mad about Enzo's departure. At the end of the day, we are getting 82m out of the 120m transfer fee (RP has 25% future fees & 6.5% agent fees), which is not bad at all. Even though Enzo in my opinion, was probably our best player, that's not what I'm frustrated about. Im frustrated with the fact that we put ourselves in a position to not be able to get a replacement for him. In hindsight, the deal didn't change much in the last few days. Chelsea was offering 120m (however not activating the release clause) and offering to pay in 6 installments. This was never what we wanted. Our president Rui Costa was always dead set on having to activate the release clause or nothing. Chelsea ofc didn't want this, as it would force them to pay us in a large sum, not installments. However, having accepted the deal in the last hour of the window. It just really annoys me because that was the worst-case scenario for all Benfica fans. We lost our best player, and we put ourselves in a position where we couldn't get a replacement. If I knew that in the end we were gonna accept, I wish we did it sooner so we could've gotten a player like Kokcu (our main transfer target replacement for Enzo) or smth. It's just a shame that we were on record to have a record-breaking season, and it feels like it's all crumbling down. (Not the first time as a Benfica fan in the last decade). To conclude, In Rui Costa we trust. Even though I don't agree with his decision today. I love him as our President as he really represents the values of the club and I am excited about his long-term project. On the other hand, this one definitely stung a bit and I'm sure Benfica fans would agree.
Record breaking season? Are you having a laugh? You lost 3-0 to Braga and couldn't even beat an out of form Sporting CP, relax mate! Just you wait and we'll beat you in your home
I believe that, indiretly, we got a replacement. Schjelderup and Guedes. Having 2 more players for attacking midfield, Aursnes can drop back and pair with Florentino. We have Rafa, Neres, Draxler, João Mário, Guedes and Schjelderup to play behind Ramos.
That SIR,is an accurate statement indeed "..If it isnt Reece James or Chilwell.....then you cant look to the midfield to help with chance creation. Enzo would fix that immediately for Chelsea..."
Honestly i've always liked Enzo more than any other young midfielder, and yes, even more than Bellingham, don't get me wrong, Bellingham is GREAT, but if you give me 200 million to buy either of them, i would pick Enzo, because he has a really rare personality, that type of player that will perform no matter where he is, what is he playing, against who is he playing, he just doesn't care and only wants to play football, he really doesn't have that ''shame'' that some players have when they first walk into a team, he has a pretty bold personality and can walk into any locker room, even into a locker room with Messi, Di Maria, Dybala in it and treat them like his life long best buddies, and i'm not the one saying it, Messi himself has said it. I trust Enzo, he seems like a real baller, and has this special thing in him that you can't describe, overall one of the wonderkids that football has to offer.
The thing is, Chelsea did beat the clause. Benfica got 75/80M (something like that) from the transfer in the immediate and Chelsea will pay the factoring in 6 installments. Enzo did Benfica dirty sadly, so although it's bad for Benfica (short in midfielders), it's not THAT bad. Ofc we could reach UCL Semis, but after this I think we can only reach Quarters, and Semis will be very hard. Still believe in the staff and in our coach Roger Schmidt. We need to at least win the League, Taça de Portugal and maybe (who knows) reach Semis and I'd say it was a pretty good season. Then in the summer we can rebuild and renew players with the profit (I hope!).
Man City was offered Fernandez for £15M when they swooped to sign Alverez but Pep refused to sign both players choosing Alverez as the better prospect back in august 2021 and instead they went back to Argentina this transfer window to sign the next Fernandez in Maximo Perrone for £8.2M and I do believe this was the player that Benfica had already lined up to replace Fernandez when this transfer went through yesterday.!!!
i always tought to myself why didn't City sign both Alvarez and Enzo at the same time, i'm guessing Pep regrets not taking them both for so little money, but definetely made up for it going for Perrone who looks like a real baller too, there's so many great players in the Argentine league, and for some reason they are extremely cheap too
@@amorphous7474 i had that idea too, but Enzo's personality is not bad, he has a De Paul type personality but more serious and focused, also Pep nowdays has Grealish and Haaland who are not shy players at all
Would you say Enzo is the new tactical unicorn? I suppose any coach would love a player like Enzo. I feel bad for Benfica especially since they're the Dortmund of European football, with talented players coming from there. What do they do with the money though? Like Nunez's fee or Enzo's fee? Anyways, great video as usual, Adrian! Love to see it coming on my notif. :)
We used to sell to pay off our debt because it was huge back in the day improve scouting and academy facilities and to help the managing the running costs and hire new talents found in South America. And lets be honest money doesn't mean shit, we are Benfica no super big player would normally come to us given our recent European history and our league is not really something incredible. It hurts Its just profit, the money will help financially sure that's good really, but it ends about there we wont really get far in the champions league which is what we really want aside from national silverware.
@@zrfanboy9897 So the debts have been cleared already? I have to say, Benfica's business model is something special. Just a shame because as a supporter you can't celebrate financial results. Profits are not goals.
@@lamp6121 yeah that's the bright side another promising talent will come seeing youngsters shine always puts a smile on hour faces it gives us pride. However, they will probably be sold in a season or 2 making it really hard to have a consistent team. Losing the most important players every season will prevent you from forming a long term project. Its like the backbone of the team is always gone come July. Therefore it's nice to see young talents fly we still love to see our boys especially academy ones tear Europe apart but we as supporters begin to see our club as a supermarket or a farm for European Sharks.
From a Chelsea point of view, I can understand it sucks for Benfica fans to lose an influential player in the middle of the season. So I was hoping Chelsea pay £80/£85m and signed him on a pre-contract or loan him back to Benfica for the next 4 months. But Benfica absolutely rinsed us. £120m is guaranteed, but Enzo dominating for Chelsea is not so much. Great deal for Benfica, as for Chelsea however, only time will tell.
This is how Enzo is going to be remembered by Benfica fans. Otamendi, saviola, Pablo aimar and di Maria will always be loved by Benfica fans, Enzo is going to be remembered as an ingrateful brat. Chelsea's strategy is a make or break one it can be great but it can be terrible, he is a good world class player no doubt and yes they got really good players this window. But can you guarantee the chemistry will be there, can you guarantee egos are not going to get in the way can you guarantee play time and remember is not short contracts is like 8 years contract most of this players have, that's insane! Again is make it or break and we will only truly see the result next season. For the future of football I hope this strategy fails if it doesn't the super league will happen. Just my opinion
@@1607Adi_Manz what you mean? The superleague is not real yet, at least the one I'm talking about. Why do you think would be better because all the rich clubs would be in it?
He's a great great midfielder, very influential, it will change your team like he did in Benfica and Argentina. I'm mad we had to sell him at half of the season, that crap must end.
yeah sadly our fans are used do it by now, we can't do anything about it. I really hope your or my club Benfica could still one day win the Champions League in this day in age, because you and I know that our clubs have the real fans behind them!! ( and man even if I'm not a Dortmund fan, I felt your sadness on 2012 when you were in the Final like it was my club, but at the same time it give me hope to dream)
So much upcoming talent enzo. Pedri. Bellingham. Gavi. Mudryk. Balde. Donnaruma. Saka. Vinicious. Haaland. Mbappe.. Tchoumeni. Konate. Trent. Rashford. Fati. Odegaard. . Just to mention a few. Love the sport
If all these new signings work Chelsea will be seriously catching up with Man City and Arsenal. I'd say they have a very good chance of making top 4 next season- and maybe even the Europa league this season
Not with Potter. Limited manager who is largely marketing hype. De Zerbi seriously showing him up at Brighton right now - playing better football, getting better results, all *after* losing several players from first 11.
Rui Costa will get stick for holding out until the summer. Rui Costa will get stick for selling Enzo. Hands are tied either way. The amount of money earned - considering the majority is coming up front is mighty tough to turn down.
It's too much money to resist. The player could've gotten seriously injured till the summer, the loophole that allows transfer fees to be amortized over more than 5 years will have been closed by then, and so on - every chance holding out could've lost Benfica 30-40 mil if not more and the player wanted to lock in his life-changing mega deal so no guarantees on how he'd play if forced to stay. It's sad, but it was the financially and strategically prudent decision.
In Benfica, in my time, I saw only 2 players coming from South America that I said to myself after the first three touches ... A PRODIGY!!!! Enzo Fernandez and before him Gamarra. Also the same situation. Both played half the season... Gamarra played that half season and as a Central Defender he made something like 4 fouls and 0 yellow cards ... playing all games since arriving to leaving ...
I am a Chelsea supporter myself, and I hope Enzo fits in well because he’s coming into a league which is a lot more physical, much more competitive, the fans are aggressive and very tribal and also there are quite a few egos not just at Chelsea but throughout the Premier League. Regardless, i’m super excited! Welcome Enzo! 💙
I am really sad about losing Enzo, but I feel this transfer window was good apart from not getting someone to replace Enzo with. Hopefully in the summer we go for Varela or Kokçu (Highly doubt this one as I feel a lot of clubs will be going for him). Aursness is a monster and right now with the Enzo money I hope we offer Otamendi and Grimaldo new contracts and up Aursness release clause. Another thing I heard is that Benfica will be receiving the 120 million up front, and Chelsea will be using a factoring system to pay him but it´s nothing certain.
Gonçalo Silva Enzo transfer actual hurt Benfica more. Cause now more premier league teams going to be scouting more in South America. Off course the premier league teams have more money so they can always outbid Benfica or teams for other leagues. The premier league is about to ruin football. Wealth disparity is too high.
@@walterdavies2984 It's not this move that's going to do it, English clubs have always wanted to sign from South America but couldn't because of work permit rules that required non-EU players to be regulars for highly ranked national teams. The rules have now changed post-Brexit with a new point-based system that will allow signing players from teams that, for example, enter Libertadores. This is going to massively widen the pool that English clubs can sign from without needing the players to go through Spain/Portugal/Italy (based on descent nationality) or Belgium (short citizenship terms) first.
Benfica only accepted to sell at the last minute because Chelsea offered to loan him to Benfica to the end of the season !!!!!! Problem was , Enzo refused to stay !!!!! Benfica did everything for Enzo to stay , Enzo did everything to leave !!!!!!!!!
Good thing for Chelsea that Benfica is a club that honors their agreements (verbal or written), otherwise we could end up making mistakes with paperwork 3 times in a row...
From my understanding it did turn out to be release clause. Maybe someone knows better but my understanding is that Chelsea paid over the odds to pay a 3rd party to front the money but will be paying off the interest on that hence it appears to be paid in installments. Chelsea is paying off the transfer in installments but benfica receives a lump sum. This is speculation but I saw some other benfica fans saying this and I'm curious if it's just fake news being spread to placate the fanbase.
Rui Costa is not to blame at all. He did all he coud, attemted to delay the transfer whith a imediate loan from chelsea to benfica till the end of the season. Enzo just did not want any of it. He never realy respected benfica as anything else other then a stepping stone, and as soon as the clause was beaten he had no intention of ever staying. You dont want that player on your team.
he has the ability to gel with any team in no time, geled with the argentina team in no time, gelled withthe benfica team in no time and he walked straight into the river team
@@alexbancu9384 No club has ever spend as much money in a transfer window, as Chelsea this january. Also, i don‘t want to argue for City or PSG, because i hate those clubs. But at least, they only signed players, that they needed, to win the title. Chelsea aren‘t nearly in a title race and still spend more than the other 4 big european leagues combined. Chelsea signed Mudryk, not because they needed him, but because Arsenal wanted him. Chelsea signed Enzo, not because they needed him, but because Liverpool wanted him. That‘s the difference.
As much as I would like to say that Enzo will flop at Chelsea, I know that he won’t. In fact I can nearly guarantee that he’s going to be one of the main reasons why they turn their season around and push for the top four. He is a big loss for Benifca and as I have posted on other RU-vid channels, Reddit and other benfica podcast’s, the most annoying part is not finding an adequate replacement in time since we sold him so late. We just hope that Aursnes, Florentino and Chiquinho stay healthy and are able to rotate in the midfield. Especially Aursnes since I believe he will take over the #8 role
Didn't you know Enzo 6 months ago? So you haven't seen the Champions League games. And by the way, most of Benfica's star players come from the academy! Without taking away recognition from River Plate, but playing in the Champions League makes the difference.
I find it amusing when Benfica fans cry about big clubs buying their best players for giant transfer fees when they've been raiding poorer South American teams best young players for paltry transfer sums for ever😆
i mean... chelsea did the same to benfica what benfica did to river plate, right? money speaks people, we just have to deal with this. i support flamengo in brazil, we sell our best players to europe and thats life in football right now sure its annoying but its the reality
Just to be clear, most of my frustration is with how it felt like broken promises from our president (I didn't go into detail in this video, but I did on other podcast/video appearances). Because I agree, when a club with money throws their weight around, there isn't much you can do to stop it. As a Benfica supporter, we are all very much aware of this!
As in how Benfica agreed with Enzo that he could stay at River while they still had a chance to win Libertadores? And being open about it with River and not changing terms with the club half way through? I hardly see the resemblance.

Considering the fact that we respected his wishes for trying to win the Libertadores for his boyhood club and allowed him to stay longer in River Plate. He completely spat on our faces, no character at all.
As an arsenal and sporting fan. Enzo transfer makes me very happy. Benfica is now weaker which I love to see. Second Enzo going to a more physical league. Most teams in the premier league park the bus and catch you on the counter. So passing means nothing. Wenger brought the best passers arsenal won nothing. So Enzo rage passing means nothing when a team got 10 men behind the ball. Second potter is a horrible manager.
Huge respect for Rui Costa after hearing his interview. Lost a lot for Enzo, being offered the chance to sign for Chelsea but stay with us on loan til the summer to continue to help the team but he just wasn't interested. Find his behaviour to be really selfish. But like Costa said, it's time to look forward not backwards.
BS, if he was sold of course it wouldn't make any sense to stay in a club that his no longer his employer. Of course he wants to adapt to his new club and the PL asap. If I was a player I would do the same, Rui Costa knows no player would accept that and Chelsea needed the player now if they want to fight for a CL position, just pathetic excuses to fool dumb sócios.
Selfish? The pov of a lot of footballing supporters always leaves me with more questions than answers. A footballing career is very short and him going should not be a surprise. Teams will treat a player like property because they kind of are so him choosing himself in this rare instance is normal.
