Just started playing Touhou: EoSD, and I've already grown a fondness for this song. Whenever I start playing, I always have a personal goal in mind, like "I'm going to make it to Sakuya with one credit on Hard," or, "I'm going to beat the game on Lunatic, regardless of continues." While my goals may change, there's one thing that always stays the same: hearing this song when the adventure begins.
And i am even further in the future and i agree. Playing a game just to hear the OST is like 3 AM water. You could do that anytime but NO. Because that time is special.Its not about the water or the song it is about the experience.
I thought the name of the song was: 'fucking perfect freeze' 'damn meiling's last spellcard' 'Borrowing books: mission failed' 'oh what a nice watch *knifed*'
+MegaSonicMax Welcome. You shall never leave. These fast-paced piano passages are actually very common in Touhou, almost as much of a signature as the trumpets. After you've listened to plenty of the more complex ones, I guess this won't stand out as much. I find this memorable mostly for the percussion. The EoSD tracks in general stand out for the weird strings. You don't see them at all in later OSTs.

Let me tell you something, I never really care about this kind of music (electronic, midi-ish, etc),well, at least, I never wanted to, but haha Touhou's are great, I know they are, very great, perfect on their own way The Young Descendant of Tepes, I remember starting Remilia stage on Normal and quickly enjoying its bass, all filled with a bunch of bullets everywhere at the mere beginning ..so yeah. I don't know too much about the other OSTs, but I've downloaded a couple to listen and know them, including EoSD, and I think I can see what you mean. I wanted to "listen to the tracks, keep what I like, delete what I don't really care", but no,I can't do that. As a whole, I just can't delete it. --- So how much has passed, 2-3 weeks? I'm already finding myself enjoying the Touhou world :D (thank you)
+MegaSonicMax I'm new too!.... well, been in this fandom since the end of July :3 I now know 3/4 of the characters in Touhou, yet I haven't finished playing EotSD :P I simply looked them up on wiki XD Though coming back here many times, this is indeed a very nostalgic stage bgm =w=

I love how well this song encaptures the feeling of beginning your journey. Id say this is the most iconic stage 1 theme for most touhou fans given it's the first stage of the windows era, too.
I remember this being the first touhou game I ever played, and the thing that completely blew me back was the music from this very level. It was the first time I ever heard anything like it. From that point forward, I had to see what the other touhou games were about. Of all the first impressions I've ever experienced, this was probably the strongest.
- First time playing Lunatic Mode -You meet the same fairies - they started shooting at you -you dodged nicely -they shoots more than usual -you feel challenged -you meet rumia -she starts shooting you -you realized you cant even beat cirno on easy mode -you start sweating -you hear cooldown timer -shoots you even more with her spellcard -you start feeling uneasy -she uses her second spell. the lazer one -you shoot her with ease -she uses her last spellcard -you noticed. this is now the rumia youve met before -before you realizes it. you already died.
This will always make me think of when I started playing Touhou, and of when I began recording and uploading videos of it. Even though I wasn't even really a gamer when the game came out, it's still contemporarily nostalgic for me.
@@Nr_Symphony might have been the version of the game you downloaded. at the time, i got it off of moriya shrine before they patched it with the vsync and better translations, so my gameplay was really bad. super fast framerates that went up to 1000fps. i downloaded it again during december and i noticed it’s been working perfectly.

Funny, I've been listening to a playlist of every Touhou song... The second EoSD showed up, the view count went from thousands to nearly millions. PC98 era is deserving of more love.
EoSD is the easiest in terms of overall bullet density and pattern complexity, but later games give you more resources and/or often have a system that you can abuse towards survival.

This entire theme is absolutely GREAT. It fits so well for a ‘first stage’ BGM. I’ve heard someone on Steam say that EoSD’s OST is “bland and overrated” but I don’t understand what that person means. My favorite parts are 0:00 - 0:18 0:18 - 0:44 0:45 - 1:12 is peaceful in a good way and is a good looping point. The piano at 1:15 is just COOL. So yeah, great theme overall! :D
Started playing Touhou games back in this year's August, and i'm already feeling nostalgic when hearing this song because EoSD was the first TH game i ever played.
Honestly, I love this song, it was my introduction to the Touhou games and, well, I think it's the perfect song to start off the game (aside for the menu music, of course).

It's been a year since I got into Touhou. I haven't played the games, but I really love the music and Patchouli. It feels kinda poetic that I got into the series in my freshman year of highschool.
I found it interesting how EOSD’s soundfont sounds notably different than in the next few games after this. It’s easy to tell this is the first windows touhou game in that way.

A DOOM mod got me to download this game. Hell yeah. More specifically, said DOOM mod (Touhou Doom) tells you the BGM name in the corner, just like Touhou. I looked up this song and found it was from a game called "Embodiment of Scarlet Devil", and then found out which Touhou game that is.
I like how most of the fanbase likes to portray Rumia as a edgy man eating loli, while ZUN make all of her theme sounds cute and create her as a lovely character.

0:31 is the best part. You're dealing with a bunch of fairies at the beginning, nothing out of the ordinary, and then suddenly this girl appears just when the music goes all out and starts firing all sorts of patterns while you fly around and try to kill her
