This episode features a scriptural reading from Abhinavagupta's "Tantrasāra" ("The Essence of the Tantras" or “The Essence of Tantra”), titled "Illumination of the Modes of Realization." It is considered one of the most impactful works of tantrik philosophy and practice. Abhinavagupta distills his insights into the nature of consciousness, the inherent divinity within all beings, and the journey toward recognizing one's fundamental nature as the light of consciousness. These passages, carefully and precisely chosen by the great master, can be listened to again and again. I offer my translation, honed over almost two decades, sharing these incredible pointers to the nature of reality that can be used for contemplation and meditation.

This was beautiful…every word like a drop of honey. I will need to spend some time contemplating the idea that, “it is impossible that anything uncreated could be one’s fundamental nature”. To my untrained mind that implies that the light of creation/consciousness has been created, but I know that can’t be right. Eagerly awaiting the next episode!

the word 'uncreated' could have been translated 'unmanifested' and 'Light of creation' could be translated 'Light of Manifestation', if that helps.

@@FaYT02 there's no distinction in Sanskrit between creation and manifestation (or appearance). Basically as a translator I just made a bad choice here -- AG is saying that it's impossible that anything unmanifested could be one's fundamental nature -- that is to say it's impossible that one's fundamental nature, whatever it is, could not be said to exist. So one's nature is and must be identical to the light of manifestation that manifests everything.

I am so into this language of “contracted vs uncontracted”, that concept is so powerful somehow…like saying a certain concept is “wrong or erroneous” etc does not do the work of “contracted”…so specific…been focusing on the word even to gain clarity in mediations. So great

I'm absolutely loving it. Podcast format can engage with open ended burning questions that many people who are on the path might wants to explore & are curious about. Idk if your future podcast episodes are pre-planned or spontaneous but I would love you bring other people, scholars, Gurus, etc on the show & discuss some of the burning questions I have , such as how **exactly** Kashmir Shavism is different from Solipsism & if there's only one being than why each one of us don't have access to other person's experiences. And whether "Future" is already happening or it exists as potential *within*. Whether multiple timelines exists ,etc. I'm not sure if you have this in mind, maybe your podcast as of now is geared towards beginners on the path rn.

At first I looked at the figure on the right of the image, then when I looked away I thought I saw them open their eyes, seen in my peripheral vision. I think the light on their eyelids and the white paint made an optical illusion. That was amusing and intriguing, and this is a soothing production overall. Thanks.
