Is anyone else truly convinced that Sterling is one of the most authentic, joyful, level, thoughtful, and aware humans in the world? Hearing his thoughtful reactions and watching his gleeful responses to these stories and memories just reminds me so much why I gravitated to Randall as my favorite character in this show. To be clear, EVERYONE from this show is an exceptional human. But there's something about Sterling that just makes me feel like he could make a friend out of anyone in the world.

Since 2016, This is Us had been the only emmy best drama nominated show that wasn’t rated R. It was the only show where there was no violence, profanity, nudity. It was about life as it is. So perfect.

Mandy's comment about the music is SO spot-on. As soon as I hear certain songs from the show, I have an immediate visceral response. My body can't help but respond to it. I have already saved a few of my faves to my RU-vid Music collection. The music is a character that is crucial to this story.

I’ll never ever forget when this first episode premiered. I was 14.. in the hospital receiving chemo and in my first few months of treatment for childhood leukemia. My mom put on nbc so she could watch… I wasn’t quite sure if I would like it.. but I vividly remember when it started stopping in my tracks walking out of the bathroom with my IV pole.. and just being in awe. And watched how that show took us on a journey in just one episode. It was the most beautiful and meaningful episode of television I had ever seen. And over the course of the 6 years it just continued to blow me away. There is an ending scene I believe in the final scene where “to build a home” plays.. and I just remember thinking., that’s what this show is all about. The music and the ending sequences that go along with it that gives you another piece of this families story and has you on the edge of your seat ready to see what happens next. I’m thrilled to say on Thursday this week on May 16th I will be 6 years off chemo. This show truly took my mom and on a wild ride as our life was taking us on a wild ride. You all are amazing. I’m so thrilled for this podcast and cannot wait to rewatch this beautiful series. 💗

This Is Us came out at a formidable time in my life. I was 48, going back to school for my MBA, and my children were out of the house. My emotions were complicated. My husband's grief process as an empty nester was so very different from mine, we didn't speak the same language. We both had difficult bosses and work situations that added to our challenges as individuals and as a couple. I began writing my first novel around this time and between watching your show and writing my truth as a fictional journey of building relationships, they both healed me, through time. I felt akin to Rebecca when she gave up singing. I totally relate to Kate in her weight loss journey. I am Randall's twin with the anxiety and OCD behaviors. I fell in love with Toby and his grand romantic gestures. I loved Jack and his love story with Rebecca. When Randall and Beth had problems and made it through, it gave me hope for my marriage. My husband and I will be celebrating 31 years of marriage next month the same week my 3rd book comes out. What a difference 8 years makes! Thank you for making this podcast! And Chris? If my 4th book gets turned into a movie, you are my first choice to play the male protagonist 😊

@19:12 This Is Us started a month after my dad was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer and I started watching because I heard nothing but amazing things (and who doesn't love Mandy Moore?), but only made it barely past the pool episode where Jack gives Kate his t-shirt. Realizing that Jack was dead in the current timeline was so heavy on my heart then that I could only come in for bits and pieces because the emotional weight was too heavy. My dad died the following January, so just 5 months after being diagnosed. I followed the cast on social media and watched clips on RU-vid, but couldn't tune in full time again because the trauma was too much. It wasn't until early January this year that I could watch all the way through and it was a roller coaster. I identify a lot with Kate - weight issues beginning in childhood, guilt, daddy's girl - and watching her get her life together has given me a lot of hope. The cast as a whole, how they show what it's like living after loss including the good, the bad, the ugly, took such wonderful care of me. It was like chicken soup when you're feeling sick; comfort when your heart's broken. This Is Us held such a special place in my heart in the beginning, but I couldn't accept it in its entirety until 7 years later and I'm grateful. The Pearson family + all its extensions are my comfort characters and I'm glad to have a visual reference for what grief feels like when someone asks. My heart is so full that you all started this podcast. The This Is Us family (writers, producers, cast, etc.) deserve it all.

Thank you for sharing your story and beautiful commentary on what the show means to you and so many of us. This was free Tuesday night therapy! I came late to the This Is Us party (started watching in 2018) binge watched to catch up; watching until the finale. Started it a AGAIN in late 2022, in its entirety then again in May 2023 (after my Mother passed from a 6+ year battle from Alz). Each time I saw/caught something or FELT something that I hadn't before; that's when you know a show is more than "entertainment". I am so grateful to see the camaraderie amongst the cast. This podcast lets me know they understand the impact the "Pearsons" made in our lives.

I’ve been avoiding rewatching the pilot and the show in general for a while now… simply because I don’t want to go through that emotional rollercoaster again! But I think it’s about time that I sat down and really considered rewatching the show. It is, after all, one of my all-time favorites that I’ve tuned in for since the very beginning. And when I tell you all that I cried in literally every single damn episode, it’s an understatement. Anyway, this show means everything to me because of how realistic it is and how real and genuine the characters are. The writing is on another level, and I’ll forever be grateful and thankful for everyone’s involvement in the making of this show. “This Is Us” taught me about the importance of family and it’s such a huge source of comfort for me because family (blood or not) is everything. And the love that comes with it knows no bounds. It’s infinite and all around us! We can’t feel it, but it’s there because of the people we choose to share it with. ❤️ (I might have somewhat referenced “A Walk To Remember” that starred Mandy with that previous quote but I swear it wasn’t intentional until I reread what I wrote!) Also, the show is like therapy to me because of the amount of crying I spent doing. I’m an overly sensitive and emotional person, and I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. Crying is the most human thing we could ever do. It’s an expression that connects us to our humanity the most. And the reason I cried a lot while watching was because of the story of these fictional characters. It’s so similar to so many things I’ve witnessed throughout my life (some were about my own and others were about other people’s lives). The way it’s been crafted in such a cohesive and authentic manner that touches the audience is impressive, and it’s one of the main reasons why we all loved the show and continued to support it over the years. We can all relate to it simply because of how much thought was put into it to make us understand what the characters are going through. Once again, I can’t thank you all enough for creating this masterpiece, and the three of you now for deciding to do this podcast. It came at the right time for me and it’s very necessary for me to revisit it with you. This is going to be such an intense and emotional ride, and I’m looking forward to hearing more of every little thing you’ve got in store for us! 🥰

Chris is so right with the observation about all the prominent TV actors. It really makes it feel just like the show - existing in all times and no times and specific times all at the same time. Our memories of the 80s, 90s, 60s, etc., are already so shaped by our memories of TV. And this show totally uses that language.

In the 6-7 years that this show was on, it helped me so much through my family’s journey, the story itself is nothing like my life but certain moments and circumstances hit home, and helped me navigate and understand (rightly or wrongly) the way life works at times. Some of the episodes, when William & Randall take their road trip ( Memphis 💔) were the most memorable for me as I lost my dad and brother I didn’t get to say goodbye to either of them or attend Dads funeral, ( strangely enough it’s my dads anniversary this week and it might be too much to say that it’s a sign from above, but that’s the way I’m feeling it!), so that episode with William and Randall will stay with me forever! (and when Beth finally gets the postcard…..oh Lord!!) Anyway I’m so glad that I will be able to be in your company and catch up on old times again, really looking forward to it 😊

The true content starts at 2:41. I delayed watching the series finale for a year because I couldn't bear saying goodbye to the wonderful characters of this show! I cannot express how excited and happy I am to see this podcast come into fruition and accessible to us here at no cost! I missed hearing each of their voices soo much.

I have a playlist I listen to whenever I'm travelling with the entire This is Us playlist (+ all Mandy Moore albums) and it never fails to move me to my very core. I'm looking at the hills in Argentina (where I'm from) and the warmth and love from this show engulfs me and makes me smile (and sometimes cry). The music from this show is so underrated, from the original compositions to the specific songs used in some scenes... But of course, it's the talent of the actors what makes everything click together. I've loved This is Us since 2016, I've watched it a few more times since then and I am so happy you have decided to start this podcast. I am currently rewatching the show one episode at a time with you, and I am thankful to be able to enjoy it like this. Thank you. A huge fan from Buenos Aires

I loved this show from the very first episode. Always brilliant, always touching, always a tearjerker in such a great way. And William!! One of my fave characters of all time. In a later episode, when he talks about taking time to take it all in, that has stuck with me all these years later.

I rewatched the series a few months back because I had to stop watching after season 4 when the show was on network tv, due to not being emotionally ready for what was to come. This show is so special and I’m so glad you all got together for this rewatch ❤

This TV show was my weekly therapy session. I don’t think there wasn’t an episode I haven’t cried. So many triggers I had with things I went through during my childhood/ teenage years. Thank you so much for doing this. The best and most honest TV show ever!

Honestly, I find the show "This is Us" really amazing, I mean in the time I first started watching the show on demand in the NBC news channel, back when I was still a junior in high school two years ago and when I was still 17-years-old(in the year 2022), I didn't understand some things I experienced in the first episodes since I was still learning a lot of things in my classes and since I was still trying to learn a lot of things adults would know, and then when I started watching every episode after, I got to learn a lot of things from it, especially things I know any person would go through in real life, and unlike anyone who knew about the show since the time it came or cried a lot from everything in the series, I didn't cry for whatever I saw and learned, and when I first started watching the series, there was also a time when my big sister found out about that and when she told me she knew about the series and that she used to find pictures of it in the subway stations in the year it was released(in 2016, and in that year in September which was two months after my 11th birthday in July), and when my dad found out, he said the same thing, that he knew the series and used to see pictures of it in the subway stations and I was honestly surprised because I never heard of the series and because I never noticed, and since was just a kid and wasn't that much smart at that time, and as I watched every episode until the next one, I even found some things that make me feel like I would want some of those things that showed for Jack, Rebecca, and their children when they were young since in my childhood, it was really different, like I couldn't talk that much to people, I didn't know what words people said and what the meanings of them were, especially in the movies and TV shows I watched, grew up with, and everything else like that until now, and the way how I saw how they had a really nice and beautiful mother, it sometimes made me wish I had a mother just like that since my mom is a lot different, she had me in an older age which was 41-years-old in the time I was born which was in the year 2005, she didn't know some things that any other person in New York(which I live in since I live in Jamaica Queens, New York) would know about, and lot of other things like that too, and some things I learned in the series was also things that I even got to learn in my US history class and English class, like for example how Jack had an abusive and drunk father, how it's hard to forget things that happened in the Vietnam War which would sometimes make you go insane about it sometimes to some people, it's all like things I learned in my classes, and other things like how Kate told Madison her secret on how she likes being fat(sorry if I have to say that since I take things seriously and since I don't want to sound insulting since I'm wise and smart and not like all the other idiotic kids we have until now who use insults as jokes and stuff like that, and since I was born in a generation which had smarter people) and how Madison told Kate about her secret which was a mental thing she had since middle school and when they both became best friends, it makes me wish that I had friends since I never had any, and since I'm an 18-year-old boy who would want requirements on how I would want my own best friend to be, especially that same thing for what type of girlfriend I would want, and I even got to learn things that would help me get even smarter like what "mild cognitive impairment" was and everything else like that too, and the show was really great, and my family found it nice that I watched it since they also wanted me to watch shows that was for adults and not always the shows I like watching every time which are for kids and which I learn things from as well too, and I want to say to you guys that you were really great in the show, how you acted as people who would make people like me learn a lot of lessons and things in life, showing me things that would sometimes relate to things that happens for my family, and everything like that, you guys were great, also I want to say to Mandy Moore that I really liked how you were in the series, how you sometimes sang songs in the series like how you did in my childhood movie Tangled, how you showed how you're great being a nice lady like how you did in some of my childhood movies like Brother Bear 2 and Racing Stripes(which came in the same year I was born in like that first/movie episode of season 9 of Thomas and friends called "Calling all engines", that first/movie episode of season 4 of Kim Possible called "So the drama", and other movies I know of and sometimes grew up with like King Kong, Robots, Madagascar, and all those other movies), and I also wanted to say happy birthday to you since it happened last month(in April) and happy mother's day to you which happened 4 days ago since I feel great talking to an actress who I'm a huge fan of and who I know from the movies and things I grew up with like most of the actors I know of until now, and thank you guys for the nice podcast.

Currently re-watching and I’m on season three. You guys are so right about how the writers and the characters take such good care of the viewers. Even though I feel like I am going through an emotional, roller coaster, reliving, grief, and all of the things, this show take such good care of me.❤

This is my 4 trip through the Pearson universe. I used to watch a lot more TV and had reached the point where I intentionally was not adding new shows to my schedule. As shows ended, I just watched less TV. The previews for This Is Us absolutely got my attention and I decided it couldn’t hurt to try an episode or two. I recorded the pilot and the next day a friend told me I needed to watch it before it was spoiled for me. So, I sat down and was drawn in immediately. My jaw dropped into my lap at the reveal with the fireman and Jack. All the pieces started to fall into place and my eyes welled up, the first of many times. I can’t put into words what this show meant to me and continues to mean. The Pearsons, with their flaws and secrets and love are my all time favorite TV family. The show is brilliantly written, filmed and performed. I can’t think of a better put together cast. I laughed and cried through all 6 perfect seasons. Thank you to every person involved with This Is Us. I’m so thankful for this podcast and the opportunity/excuse to watch again. I watched the pilot just before this and, once again, chuckled and teared up on cue. See you all next week and all the weeks after.

This show gave me connection when I needed it the most. I felt every moment the pearson's went through could relate to my emotions, could relate to the grief I struggle with and honestly made me feel less alone. Every episode I felt seen as a human through the poetic way the story was told. So thankful for this podcast to bring me back closer to the show that changed my life.

Ok, I said I would come back. Beautiful. Just beautiful. I think what was so great about your show for me was how I could just sit and just be. To just be a part of what was happening. I'm a mental health counselor and to just be present in your family through all the ups and downs and not have to place boundaries around that was such an amazing experience. Never have I seen a show that presented all sides of family so well. For me personally, it allowed me a space to release emotion that I'm not really "allowed" to release in session. So much of what was written for your family I've seen in my own office and have had feelings about. I can't wait for next week to hear you continue to discuss and relive all the This is Us moments.

The first time I started this show I was 20. I had been having panic attacks from the time I was about 8 until 22. I wanted to love this show, but I had a bad panic attack watching an episode (totally unrelated) but I could tell this show was going to be heavy and it was just hard to concentrate on. I ended up starting the show back in September of 2023 and finished it early this year. Wow. Hands down one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I’m so so happy I gave it a second chance. ❤ Congratulations on the podcast, I will be tuning into every episode!
