I'm getting ready for my private pilot checkride. I'm stressed whenever I gotta plan a flight and make a nav log. This video helped me understand the wca solution a little better. Thanks!

There are a ton of flight planning videos out there. There are even more about how to use the e6b. This video is by far the simplest and easiest for me to understand. Direct and to the point.

thank you for your simple explanation, back in flight school I was told to get a CX2 and so I never learned how to use one of those, and every video I found made it sound way overly complicated, but of course it's not, thank you.

In your first example, did you accidentally say "true heading of 080" instead of true course of 080?

Thanks for the video! One question: at 1:28 you mentioned your true heading. Isn't this supposed to be true course? The true heading is determinded by the + or - Wind Correction Angle (WCA) right?
@GabeVarns
@GabeVarns 4 года назад
Yes. True heading is with the crab angle accounted for (which you calculate with the wind correction angle) just as you said. True course is what he was looking for.

I know this is a little older post, but I'm a little confused. At 6:39, you do a division of 50/105 = 28.57, but I run that number and get 0.476. Where does the conversion come into play and how did you get 28.57?
@alok0412
@alok0412 2 года назад
Here's how: 50nm / 105 nmph = 0.476 hr = 0.476 hr x (60 mins / hr) = 28.57 mins

I wonder how pilots figured this stuff out during Amelia Earhart's time. It seems the e6b was invented during WW2 which is after her time.

Nicely presented ..would have been clearer if wind was more prominently to either left or right grid lines . The Example wind is just a bit too close to the centre line for the newbie to follow clearly. Even so ..good vid.
@jimstanley_49
@jimstanley_49 5 лет назад
The second example was from 60° left. You want 90°? No matter what direction the wind, the steps are all the same. He did a quartering headwind and a following tailwind. Everything else is just more of the same with different answers.

Thank you for video, but what should we do if the question would give TAS which is 420 KTS ? Can you make video for this question please? Ex: TC = 017 , WIND = 340/30, TAS 420 KTS. Find WCA and GS ?
@mike326ify
@mike326ify 5 лет назад
Hi Guray, your E6B should have a hi speed side on the reverse of the slide. My WCA 6 degrees left for a TH 011degrees and GS 395. HTH

@@mohsenalziheiri2496 Precisely my answer using both e6b and Jeppesen CR. I made the mistake of plotting the wind arrow on the e6b on low speed side.

Wind speed 18, so 118 that’s what he said and what is correct, 18 up from base of 100

haha... It looked more like 120 to me also. Maybe it was the camera angle?

How did you get 3.8 gallons burned? I got 3.5 from dividing 28.57 by 8.
@untilidie33
@untilidie33 6 лет назад
You must convert 28.57 minutes to a fraction of an hour to multiply by 8 gallons per hour. Such as 28.57 minutes /60 minutes =.4761 hours which is multiplied by 8 gallons (.4761*8) to get 3.8088 gallons.
@waitdaniel
@waitdaniel 4 года назад
@@untilidie33 i thought 50/105 is 2.1 instead of 28.57?
@randomf1721
@randomf1721 3 года назад
@@waitdaniel So imagine 50/105 as a fraction of an hour, so cross multiplication=50/105=28.57/x. This leads to 105(28.57)=2999.85 and 50(x)=50x. Finally, divide 2999.85 by fifty, which leads to 59.997 minutes.
