Ben-I wanted to drop you a thank you note. I lost my Dad on April 19th. He loved woodworking. He wasnt very good, but that didnt stop him from doing. He and I created some things together, such as my coffee bar in my office. I wanted to say thank you for giving me somewhere to come, enjoy the creativity and beauty of woodworking, and remember him without the sadness of missing him.

Good points on making a neck at 36:55. I was quite nervous about making my first neck, but it's honestly not that bad. There are more steps, maybe a bit more planning, but it's not as complicated as it may seem to a first time builder.

Have you tried using a gun stock checkering cradle to carve necks? You can google how to make one. Allows for rotating your work while holding it steady at almost any angle. I made one to hand checker rifle stocks and love it, thought it might be useful for necks as well.

The carving of the heel-neck transition was absolutely one of the hardest things to do. Neck side transition, easy, with I must admit (on my opinion) a beautiful result. On the heel side.... I mostly just ignore it. Would make ok one side, try on the other, and wouldnt be simmetric... tried to adjust until ok, go back to the other... fail to make it simmetric again. In the end made it a very simple, semi round-ish, semi-simetrical-ish thing, that I just tend to ignore and hope everyone else does the same..... So... please, what a about a full on, 30-40min Ben documentary on how to carve that heel-neck transition?

I'm absolutely sure this will become a gorgeous instrument - you've obviously created magnificent guitars before, and you most certainly will after this one's done 👍 However, I'm a bit puzzled by this request to copy a Fender, albeit in very rare wood. I have this feeling of 'thin ice' and that you're jumping through some additional hoops on this lengthy journey, and whether it might backfire at some point... If it was me (and I know it isn't) I would definitely have made an instrument to my own original design. It's always a joy to watch you create (in the broader sense of the word), but I do really hope that the client appreciates the end result accordingly.

I love the faceting method for neck carving, especially with a shinto rasp. I've had a lot of success this way. I like to put a strip of blue painters tape along my pencil lines, I find that it's helpful to show me exactly when i get to the line and it allows me to follow my template more precisely

Definitely facet the neck with measurements the first and 12th fret and straight lines drawn between. Two main cuts to begin with, then another pair offacets drawn on the two main facets. Goes very quickly this way.

Question: Why do you work in millimetres? The original measuremets for all instrumuments are Imperial. I have worked in thet system since 1969. Firstly, inches are more accurate ( e.g. O.040 is millimrtere. Also a 25/64" is 0.991 mm) hence tuners need to bought with extra parts as 10 mm . are too big. I know the world, other than the US is metric. but instruments weren't made that way. The old system is accurate to 1/1000 " of an inch. Metric only to 1/99 cm. Just curious.
