Patrick's back in town! We rented a van and did all kinds of shopping for the house and garden, including a trip to our first brocante. See the hauls, hijinks, and historic antiques on parade in this latest video. Beth also takes you along on her art pilgrimage to Paris.
🇫🇷
If you love fixing up old houses, chateau renovation, old home transformation, DIY projects, finding antiques, and all things French, come along on our adventure! We're an American couple renovating a maison bourgeoise (chateau charm on a small scale) in the historic city center of Amboise, in the Loire Valley of France.

You have a good taste for old factories : Its building metallic structure was built by the Eiffel (from tower fame) factory for an airship garage used in Paris for the 1889 universal exposition. It was bought and transferred by train in Amboise in 1905. The factory was then building metallic structures for bridges. From 1945 it was bought by the FACEL company and they built car parts for Simca, Ford and Bentley. In 1954 they created their own car the luxurious and famous Facel Vega en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facel_Vega Facel bankrupted in 1976 and the building was bought once more by Prestal who made stamped sheet metal parts until 2020. So a really interesting history for this old factory.

I love your shot of a Paris door. Last time I was there I took hundreds of shots of beautiful and not so beautiful doors. I love the Orangerie and agree that a few quiet moments in that room would be priceless!

The old factory reminds me of a beautiful computergame from a long time ago: Syberia. The artwork was frome the late comic artist Benoît Sokal.

I LOVE your vlogs!! Thank you SO MUCH for slowly moving the camera in the shops and while visiting the various villages. It’s nice to be able to view the antiques, buildings and gardens without eye strain. I also love seeing your purchases in a grouping next to the window where the light is the best. So many treasures. Loved the hot air balloons and the visit to the art galleries and artist supply store. I’ve been to Europe at least once a year for several decades and I loved purchasing lace curtains by the meter. Enjoy every minute of your lives in France because it all goes by very fast. If you ever have the chance be sure to spend a day exploring at Mont Saint Michel.

Oooooh the old factory would be a wonderful spot to have your guests do some Plien air painting. Those rusty bits would be cool to sketch as the light moves around them. Love a bit of crusty rusty. I grew up around an old WWll airport so as kids we loved the dreams and stories we could make up while playing there climbing to the rafters. Now it’s an inspiring spot for a picnic lunch.

Ahh the bleu starry flowers at the start is Borage. You can eat it in salads.Maybe you already knew...or even did sow it yourself :) In Holland where i live we call it cucumber herb. Komkommerkruid. The smelling trees are Linden trees. The flowers smell absolutely delicious....the whole area is filled with the perfume when they bloom They grow closeby my home.

The dry linden flowers can be used as herbal tea ( infusion in french). Very popular here for calming effect, perfect for evening. Linden honey smell linden flowers too. Linden = Tilleul in french Fun fact I used to live in an area called Tilleroyes it was the old name of tilleraie, forêt de tilleuls ( linden forest) It smell so gut when the linden were in flowers.

Good for you that you got out of the house and went to Paris! Bummer that it was so noisy looking at Monet's paintings. We've been to Giverny, too, and it was lovely! I LOVE Monet! LOVED the Rousseau that was your favorite. Way cool! Even cooler was your visit to the paint supply store--had no idea it existed! Aww, the Monet Christmas ornament was way cool. "We'll have 5 people living here soon so we'll need more coffee mugs." Who's coming?

Sewing box was a great find and to the right person after all the years of mending, stitching etc. It fell into the proper hands of one who will appreciate it's prior years of service. All great finds at brocante.....especially ruffle edged lights. Enjoy your great sense of humor...... Can't wait to see what you create next on this journey❤

Check ou Chateau Life in Bordeaux, some of his vlogs show extensively auctions and brocantes in that area that have fabulous bargains on antiques like armoires, chandeliers, mirrors and such at ridiculous prices, apparently not trending with the locals.

20:50 It's so fun to follow along on your adventure. Thanks for sharing it with us. I just went to a vide grenier in Montsoreau, which is about the same distance as Blois, from where you live, but in the southwest direction. By the way, have you gotten across the river to Vouvray? They make my favorite wine and there are quite a few cool caves there. Thanks again!

To be quite honest...i prefer the real gardens in Giverny. I was there in the nineties. The real pond and the real waterlillies above the paintings. In general since i get older i prefer Nature so much more above culture. I do have a small pond in my garden with a pink waterlily.

Laughed out loud when I read: Patrick has fancy taste! 😂 I know I could probably see tours of France Aldi on someone else's channel but I wouldnt mind seeing yours and how it compares to the one I shop at here in the US. I'm also very curious to know approximately how much you're paying for all the items you're getting at auctions. For instance, was the sewing box stand a total steal or $100 or ? Are you getting these items auction items online only or do you go somewhere and bid? How does that work?

Please use slow panning of the camera or phone when showing brocantes and greniers and buildings. When you go fast and swing right or left abruptly, it makes the viewer queesy. Not everything needs narration.
