Howdy! fellow adventurers. In this episode, Wavey and I spend another day exploring the Muscatine area. We launch the scooter in search of a random small town with an interesting name (we found one). We also pass through another Mississippi lock and dam. It was a beautiful couple of days out on the rivers.

Great video. Nice that the weather cooperated . Being a DIY man I bet you were thinking if you had a 55 gallon drum of flex seal that you could build a real nice floating home on that abandoned barge...be safe and enjoy the river.

I believe that the sticker that Wavey got on her foot is what we call a goats head (don't know the botanical name). They are hard to pull off and they prick your fingers, too, when you remove them. We've encountered them in the west - Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico ....

I'm just worried sick about poor ol wavey. Having such a hard life. lol. I use to bass fish a lot and would carry my dog if I went alone. I would go at night in the hot summer. Great video. 👍, I fished on Pickwick and Wilson usually.

When we did that stretch of river in the 1980s, a tow barge was out of control going backwards coming right at us! There were super strong winds that day but whether that was the problem or if it lost power too i don't know. I can see how that wreck you saw happened.😂 Good luck!

A house/shanty boat would be a fun way to do the loop! The only areas that would be a concern to me would be the crossing from Carrabelle, the Great Lakes and headed up the Jersey Shore to NYC, since everything else is essentially "river" cruising even the ICW when you think about it. Not ideal conditions for a (mostly) flat bottomed boat.

Those areas you mention are definitely going to be a challenge. Picking good days. Carrabelle over has been done by a Shanty boat already (The Pirate and the Princess here on YT and my channel here) I'm pretty sure we have that one covered. NJ will be interesting. The Great lakes...well if we fail at least we'll be close to home;) we're going go find out together!

Once knew a beautiful woman from Iowa. Lost touch years ago but she was pretty special. I'd probably just take my electric bike instead of a scooter... takes up a lot less room. 120 miles of range so I wouldn't need to charge it very often if I did need it. Will be interesting to hear how you fared in the nasty front that went through. It was brutal for Tennessee.

@@backwatersandbackroads My EBike is custom and way cheaper than most. Top speed is well over 50mph and no pedaling. You do have a lot more room on the scooter to haul stuff for sure, but just for getting around I like the Ebike. Glad the storm missed you, it was pretty rough for a lot of people.

Just an idea for shuffling the dingy bow to stern. It would be an easy way to tie it up along side for the locks. Kayakers will use what they call an anchor trolley its used to set anchors and then position it along side the boat so the current keeps you tracking straight. Essential its a loop of rope bow to stern, the two ends meet with a steel loop, the ends sometimes run thru d rings and sometimes run thru pulleys. Anyway you clip the line from the dingy in it run to the other end and pull it down.

@@backwatersandbackroads I found this short you tube video showing the basics. Obviously you won’t be anchoring your boat with this system. It would be an easy way to run the dingy back and forth and possibly use it for tying one end when hauling a breast. Obviously larger pulleys screwed the side of the shanty and maybe marine nylon line would work better. A cleat that you could wrap once or twice to lock it in place. @@backwatersandbackroads I sent a reply but see it’s been scrubbed. I had a link to a RU-vid video on the subject. Anyway search the tube for. No Drill Anchor Trolley for kayak. Any way just a scaled up version of that. You obviously can’t anchor to it. But I don’t see why the dingy couldn’t be hauled back and forth down one side or the other also could be used to hold on end of the dingy while hauling a breast. Hope this helps you out. Also I saw one mistake he made the upper return line should run thru the loop to help support it from sagging also with a cleat you could take a turn on it to lock the trolly in place.

Next trip to Walmart, pick up a needle like you use to inflate basketballs with. Most of the boat fenders can be over inflated to give you more standoff on the lock walls. Just a thought to save the roof

@@backwatersandbackroads I just looked to see. I found that heading down from Minneapolis, Lock and Dam #1 is below the last dam with a name (but no number) "Lower Saint Anthony Falls Lock and Dam." You have to go all the way down to East Alton, IL to Lock and Dam No. 26 to find a L&D that has also been bestowed with a proper name: the Melvin Price Locks and Dam. My wife had a similar title for the political stranglehold party in my county She called it "The Scum Also Rises." We beat 'em for 20 years or so and then I retired. So, I guess that's not so bad. By Spring, I want to be doing what you're doing, but sailing up every backwater town I can get to on the Chesapeake Bay. So I'm watching closely your videos for tips and sage advice. My 25-foot sailboat is a little smaller than that "mansion" you're drivin' around. If I find a Rolls Royce hood ornament, I'm sendin' to you to use as a ship's figurehead.

Love this. I had a friend today breakdown in his 02 Toyota Sienna. He was an hr and a half away. Of course I went to help him. Found the actual problem but it too a 24mm box end to fix. Even though it was a relatively easy fix the location made it an actual nightmare. If I ever have an emergency moment I know this fucker's going to be there. Getting home and finding you just posted a vid just made my night.

I love my ebike, and would use it like you use your scooter. Trailers are made for them to carry your purchases. Bet you could charge the battery with your systems.

Brenton ~ 🐶 Knowing you may not always have access to as much information… And as a previous Beagle owner myself 🐶 & knowing how they always have their nose in everything… I hope you’ll forgive me for bringing up an unpleasant topic but at the same time, I don’t want to be negligent in sharing either… Maybe try to steer clear of dog parks etc. as there’s a Canine Respiratory illness spreading across the country. Similar to Kennel Cough from what I understand. Just wanting you to be “In the know” Wishing you & Wavey Girl continued safe travels. 🙋‍♀️

Yet another great video! You'll eventually be passing through my home port of Carrabelle, FL. We've had lots of loopers stopping here over the last few weeks, while waiting on a weather window to do the gulf crossing.

I don't know why you call your house boat shanty boat. It is a very nice house boat. It's not ugly I would love to cruise in one like it that's for sure.but 😮❤

I see it as a Shanty Boat. It home built enough to be considered one. There's always a debate as to what can be called a Shanty boat. I say almost anything that has a lot of home built aspects to it. What do you think?

@backwatersandbackroads, I see a home built house boat that has a really beautiful inside with all natural wood interior. And set up for a personal touch to make anyone sit back and enjoy the ride. That's what I think. It has a nice exterior, too, I don't know how you balanced that vessel to float so perfectly. Looks professionally built. Doors and all.
