Dr. Sanjay Kumar Manjul is the Additional Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India. He has made significant contributions to Indian Archaeology, leading excavations in Rakhigarhi, Binjor, Barnawa, Sinauli, and Baghpat.
The Sinauli findings, including the earliest known chariot, were highlighted as the "Discovery of the Century" at the National Museum of Modern Art, New Delhi, for the G20 Summit.
In this latest edition of ANI podcast with Smita Prakash, Dr. Manjul discusses indigenous techniques and the development of Indian urban society from the Early Harappan phase to the Late Harappan phase.
He explores new excavation techniques, the Indus settlement, and his perspective on the Mahabharata in an archaeological context.
Dr Manjul delves into how culture, tradition, and belief systems impact cultural amalgamation and affinity towards the Mahabharata.
He narrates the discovery of Sinauli, emphasizing the indigenous chariot's significance. He also touches upon conflicts between political and traditional scholars, critiques modified theories of Western scholars on Indian history.
He also discusses the Aryan invasion theory, contemporary civilization changes, surveys, and mythology.

Smita, if you would have allowed him to speak more without interrupting him with questions, we would have gathered more information. A piece of feedback to you: your questions were inspired by discredited theories because of which his answers kept getting derailed. I would recommend that you bring him back to the forum and let him speak more with minimal questions. There is no evidence for any Culture or language the steppe people have introduced in India. Only assumptions. The entire backbone of this theory is a bunch of assumptions like a non existant PIE which we have no evidence of. We have no evidence of their Culture. Only some assumptions and whataboutery. Even the paper on AMT itself is shady considering how the calculations for median age was done so that it fits with the timeframe of the aforementioned AMT. If the median age goes up or above by a few digits it become too late or too early for a supposed Aryan Picnic. Not only that the Steppe people had east Asian ancestry. But Indians have no trace of any east Asian. The only logical explanation is that the Shakas/Scythians who show a decreasing gradient of East Asian ancestry from east to west gave us our Steppe Ancestry. Not only that multiple invasions have been recorded in our history such as the Huns, The Scythians, The Greeks etc. Who indeed had steppe ancestry. So it seems more plausible that the aforementioned groups gave us Indians our Steppe ancestry and not the Steppe pastorialists as their number is quite insignificant to introduce steppe ancestry in all of Indians. So this throws out the Idea of yours that Dravidians were the IVC people and Aryans introduced Sanskrit and whatever bs you guys concoct. @@goddalehundibharathraj4374

We think Moenjodaro and Harappa were discovered in the 1920s. This is wrong. It was discovered almost 100 years earlier and the British rushed a team to Iraq (Mesopotamia) as a consequence. When they realised the significance of the findings (out of India) they not only spent the next few decades removing all evidence of the link and then used what remained as ballast for the Lahore-Multan railway, they also partitioned India to keep the sites in the hands of "fellow Abrahamics"! Why was this so important for them? The origins of known civilizations demolished the carefully built narratives around what was projected to be the roots of "Western Christian Identity"! Partition was an elaborate coverup!

Amazing podcast!! It was extremely informative and an eye-opener session.. Any society can grow organically only if you are rooted with its history and culture. With discoveries like Dholavira, Rakhigarhi and Sinauli, it's time or history is re-wtitten and re-told.. and this time from Indian perspective. Thankyou Smita for bringing to us such a brain-storming couple of hours!! Kudos to ASI and the entire team for such valuable discoveries!!

Smita madam , you are now a pioneer. The mainstream media just shut up on this subject.The very prospect of formally challenging the AIT was apparently a no no for the anglicised gentry and public intellectuals which included media , academia and strategic thinkers. It was as though they were kicking the can down the road under the plea that it is early days to conclude anything so why stick our neck out in giving the new thought leaders any chance ? This chapter has to be taken head on. We need massive amounts of multipronged research into archeology , epigraphy , architectural history, metallurgical studies of early bronze age and earlier periods. Now that we are laying a claim to resurrect our collossal civilisation we need hard empirical evidence and ground facts. Govts must be punched into action by mass awareness and pull factor. Please concentrate on a badly neglected subject which is now a policy priority - Indian Knowledge System. Pl interview people like Raghava Krishna founder of Brhat, the Indic reniassance organisation. He is a scintillating intellectual. The pushback against IKS is severe. Pl intervene , bring the subject above the water level. Remember Neera Mishra was solidly prevented from archeologucal excavations in Purana quila for 30 years by the lobby backed by none less than the Aga Khan. They wanted to put the start of the history of Delhi with the Islamic invasions and shut out everything else before that. Please act , you have great credibility. Give the new evidences and scholars a wide berth.

Very good Discussion!. Very true Sundareshan1849. I see wikipedia sinauli site description posted some points which counters this (wikipedia can be disregarded, they have come up with points like cow cart, Aryans migrated earlier etc for 2018 findings ). But a good way should be found by India to publish this finding.

I'm absolutely loving your podcast and I'm a regular listener! I just wanted to point out a small correction from today's episode. The excavation site mentioned was shown as Bijnor UP in the visuals, but it's actually located in Binjor village, Anupgarh tehsil, in the Sri Ganganagar district. Just thought I'd clarify that. Keep up the great work!

Hi Smitha, Hooe you take this as a constructive criticism but you really need to stop interrupting your guests. The whole point of a podcast is listening to an interview in the long form. The interruptions, even if they are a single word, can break the chain of thought of the guest and puts off the audience as well. You have a great show and a plethora of great guests. Would love to see you make the most of it.

Sanskrit is an intrusive language, but the problem is its been shown that a group of Eastern European Corded ware took over the dark natives and essentially filled tropes. There is 0 archeology to back this up , because there are no Steppe ceramics in India , like 0. Though Jats and Brahmins esp in the Kuru Panchala region have excess Steppe ancestry, which is no where to be seen anywhere in India in such copious amounts. I do strongly believe the Vedic Literature has true History mixed with poetic, emotional, exaggerated aspects - reason probably to pass it to generations without written scripts. If the history is “story like” then it is easy to remember and pass it to generations. We must debunk western idea of Aryan theory with these (Sinauli) findings. Something Like Jennifer Raff’s “Origin - A Genetic Theory of the Americas”

All they are managing to prove is Harappan Dravidians were the original Aryans. Not steppe pastoralists. Steppe pastoralists still came after 700bc with indo-european (Sanskrit) language.
@RT-oz3lg
@RT-oz3lg 5 месяцев назад
@@goddalehundibharathraj4374 Oh no. No no. The estimated aryan invasion is older than 700 bc. I mean, even the rig veda describes the saraswati river which dried up much earlier. To say that a text describing age old geography of India came from abroad is something else. Of course, that is unless you believe rig veda wasn't composed in sanskrit and that only sanskrit was brought from elsewhere but the exact same culture was already existing here. These texts mention Indraprastha, Gandhar, Ayodhya, Kosala etc... Now, there's no way all these places were outside India's borders.

@goddalehundibharathraj4374
@goddalehundibharathraj4374 5 месяцев назад
@@RT-oz3lg there may be two possibilities, one the river saraswati names in rig Veda was totally something else somewhere else, those names were imported later. Or vedic stories were imported from some one else who was staying in the so called saraswati basin. Besides the saraswati river is supposed to have gone dry at least 6000 years ago. But most mature Harappan phase was 4500 years ago. The time scales so not match.
@RT-oz3lg
@RT-oz3lg 5 месяцев назад
@@goddalehundibharathraj4374 That's the exact point! What we know is so different from what's presented to us. Only means there's more to be dug/discovered. Because, our scriptures not only talk of saraswati but entire geography of so many places! There's no way it was just a made up name or a person elsewhere knew the entire geography of India from back then.
