Lived in LA in the 90's - Im from Dublin Ireland - what a change but I never felt unsafe - I lived in Hollywood with tonnes of different nationalities..what a wonderful learning experience for an 18yr old who came from a white irish catholic country and had never even spoken to or seen an African/Indian/Chinese person - I made the best friends and had the most amazing experiences

I love cities and am introverted too! Same reason as Josh: the ambiance at a distance and the security of having people available when I need the interaction, the services, the company.

I totally feel the same way. Never heard it spoken about before listening to this.

Also, I hoped you noticed, but here in Sao Paulo big billboards or any kind of big advertisement is banned since 2007 (even the name of the establishment can't be larger than 17 square feet in average) and I love it about my city. It feels so clean!

Thanks for another great episode! I'm total a city person (and an introvert), but I just want to point out that living in NYC doesn't have to mean living in Manhattan in a terrible apartment with insane rent (although I have been there!) My boyfriend and I live a 15-20 minute subway ride outside of Manhattan in a great little neighborhood in Queens. I love the community, we have a great apartment, and the rent works for us. There's a way to make it work. Anyway, love you guys. Thanks for all you do.

Seems like caller who said "downsizing" neighbors meant "downgrading." I suggest he look inward and think about what it is he values in neighbors.

Big cities off anonymity , there may be lots of people, but they have no interest in each other. In small towns, like the one I live in, everyone knows you and want to be involved in your life (or all up in your business). It is tough being an introvert in a small community, I feel like I am constantly trying to push well meaning people back out of my space.

I love Sarah's question. What drew us to a location when we were younger, is no longer bringing value. Progress, (more and more summer homes popping up) in my case. I still love the nature around me. I don't love the influx of thousands in the summer months. The cost of living has greatly increased as well. I am an in home care Nurse. Five years ago, I bought a lovely 5th wheel and a small Utility/ mobile storage trailer. I've reduced my monthly rent by two thirds in the town that I love. I now feel free to move from Chelan Wa. to an undisclosed location in OR. Family friendly community. Best of luck to all you Sarah's out there.

With the current pandemic going on, big cities are overrated. They have the most infections per capita and the scapegoat mentality (anti Asian hate) is strongest in those big cities.

My wife and I are supposed to be leaving for vista, ca on Thursday moving from Chicago to start our life together somewhere warm and just different. We cant stand the winters here and I'm kind of freaking out today just about how are we going to afford life there. Can we afford to live there? I dunno. Were leaving with just over $5,000 in our bank account. No jobs and no place to live. Well figure those things out when we get there. Or is this too crazy? Please someone help!

Sydney also has a high cost of living - average house price 1.1 million (almost 800 000 US). But there's work here and it's so beautiful!

Sadly, the opioid epidemic knows no socioeconomic boundaries. The affluent in some of the wealthier suburbs of Chicago have terrible rates of overdose and suicide from prescription pain relievers, as well as illegal narcotics.

Please make shorter videos... This is so interesting but too much time to one simple video. Sum up your info. Continue the good work. Best regards

You don't have to listen to an entire episode in one sitting. You never had to. I watched/listened to the first 20 minutes yesterday, and now I'm listening to more. Listen to them at your own pace, and it won't feel like a chore.

Crazy he named Oakland CA 1st. When I went out there, it did remind me of Dayton. Wanna move there but that cost of living.....😲😲🤪🤪

Anyone who can move from the Bay Area will. Lol, to Virginia, Texas, I even knew a retired NFL player move his family to Arizona because of cost of living--sort of like people leave NYC for Florida, or anywhere affordable. I'm in the valley, northern Calif. expensive, but been here 30 yrs, no mortgage. Lived in Lima, Ohio 😄.also a Williams, lol.
