There is a sense of isolation and alienation among people, historically and culturally . its a politically and culturally sensitive area with economic and security issues. These assurances were granted to them in pre independent period itself. Any large scale changes to that would act detrimental to our national interests and East Asian diplomacy.

I have worked in Silchar one year, to visit Mizoram special permit is required. Many years same system running we cant change that system . Mizoram state having special status by central govt. Silchar majority people are Bengali speaking , may be many migrated from Bangladesh before partition period.

Rain water harvesting is very effectively implemented. They dig dry wells at available corners of houses/building, collect water in monsoon times, cover the top with lock and key. Pump out the water in dry winter and sell. First ever unit of Indian Army (1st Assam Rifles) (Lushai Hill Battalion) was raised and stationed in Aizwal some two hundred years back. I worked there during 1978-79. I love the place and people. Enjoy the trip.
