This week, as we continue our Loop journey, we travel from Croton on Hudson, NY to Schenectady, NY. We have enjoyed this part of our journey immensely - the Hudson River is absolutely beautiful and so is the Erie Canal so far. We have started the locks again, traveling through 7 this week. WE WILL BE DOING A "BEST OF" EPISODE, PLEASE LET US KNOW IN THE COMMENTS IF THERE ARE ANY CATEGORIES YOU'D LIKE US TO ADDRESS! Thanks for following along, and we appreciate all of your comments and support! :-)

I'm from northern NY, I actually work in Schenectady but live 1 hour north. It's so nice when travelers from other parts visit NY and see we're so much more than the city. I've traveled a lot and run into people who have no idea how rural and beautiful NY is. Maybe later you can come back and visit the Adirondacks

Oh absolutely! We will definitely come back! and yes, I understand how you feel - sometimes New York is associated only with the city, but my goodness, how gorgeous the rest of your state is! I'm happy to be an ambassador, and we will most definitely come back! Niagara Falls is on my bucket list! Thanks for watching! :-)

The Hudson River portion of the Loop has to be the most scenic, your documentation of this section is wonderful. Thank you so much! Safe travels.

I own the house on the right at 10:54. Actually, the dormer is being rebuilt as you took that shot. Been restoring the house for years, great shot. Thanks. The house to the left up the hill is Oakcliff, a B&B. It might be possible to leave your boat at the State Terminal dock which is just upstream and walk there to stay. This area of old homes is designated a National Historic District. They developed here in association with the original Erie Canal which crossed the Mohawk River here on an aqueduct. Safe Travels!

I thought you had to pay a one time fee to travel the Erie. It was a fee covered the length of the canal the direction you happen to be traveling. And a separate charge for the Oswego canal. So for example if you travel up and back down the length of the Oswego canal ( for example ) you buy two canal passes. Or has the state of New York stopped charging? Awesome vid's , awesome content , and Chris you don't have to smile all the time to have fun and enjoy the trip. Safe travels

@coolbeansloop2024 3 месяца назад
Hello, and no, we have not had to pay to travel the Erie! We just enter the locks and nobody has asked for a pass, or money. It's been very nice! We know that in Canada, there is a fee for the Trent-Severn so we have bought a pass for that already. Thanks for watching! :-)

No bananas on our boat - but not in the house at certain times of the year, either, because they tend to attract fruit flies, and we don’t need to be inviting any more bugs on the boat than we already have! I love all of the location info and boat tips sprinkled through your videos…very informative and entertaining.

Hi Kari, yes we agree about the bananas and fruit flies too! Thanks for your kind comments, and we are glad you are enjoying our format! I had not done any of this video/editing thing before we started, so I am learning as we go! It's been so fun documenting it all! Thanks for watching! :-)

Yes, we have no bananas. Actually I have been watching sailing vids for over ten years and I see them on every boat. I would love a tour of your boat if you haven't done one yet. I am a new subscriber!

Locking thru is always an interesting process. Maybe you can start when hale the lock, and follow the whole process. Perhaps double speed the filling or emptying. Then normal speed as the lock opens and you exit. I must have watched 8-10 video like that before I did it on the Ohio River. Keep the good stuff coming.

Thanks Scott, for the kind words and the suggestion! We will try to get the lock action on video! We are usually so busy with getting ready to go through the lock that we don't have time to set up our cameras, but if I plan early enough I can set it up and press the button right before I go down to grab the lines! but as you know, the locks are so amazing and it would be so great to get it on camera for all to see. Going up is fun but slower; going down is a little scarier but faster. So, coin toss! :-)

Hi! Thank you for cheering up my difficult week - we had to say goodbye to our dog friend on Monday - catching up on your last three videos has helped my mood! I wanted to ask how long before you left on the loop did you own Cool Beans? Did you purchase Cool Beans specifically to do the loop? And will you keep the boat when you get back to your home port? What other boats have you owned in the past? I love your videos, they are so cheerful, sweet music and wonderful photography!! 😊

Oh Jenna, so sorry for your loss, that is most difficult and we understand the sadness of losing a beloved dog. Glad we could make you smile! We owned Cool Beans about 6 months prior to leaving for the Loop. We did purchase her specifically for the Loop but we are not sure if we will sell her or keep her when we are done! We are having so much fun and she's a great boat to travel on! Chris has had fishing boats since he was a teen, and I bought a tritoon four years ago. So that is all the experience we had before buying a 39' trawler! But with the help of our awesome training captains, we felt fairly prepared to embark on the Loop! :-) Thanks so much for watching, we really appreciate it along with your kind comments!

We are planning our loop next year on our 390 mainship, just curious if you have had to drop your mast at any point. Do you have a pivot on your mast? We picked our up in Trenton Ontario and barely made it under the bridge going into Cayuga lake. Thanks, enjoy New York.
@coolbeansloop2024
@coolbeansloop2024 4 месяца назад
Hello, fellow Mainshipper! We have NOT YET had to drop our mast! We don't anticipate needing to until we get to downtown Chicago, as we will take Cool Beans through downtown and we think we will need to drop it to get through the lowest fixed bridge! But if we do, it's easy - we do have a pivot on our mast! We have dropped it twice to replace the bulbs in the anchor light. Thanks for watching! :-)

I've never heard of the banana superstition before. I don't currently own a boat so I don't have anything to worry about. What is your planned route through Ontario? And your timetable to do this? I live in the Toronto area & would love to have the opportunity to meet you. I've been following your journey from the beginning & have really enjoyed your episodes. My wife & I watched the Belmont Stakes as well. It was a good race. Cheers, Jack.

Hello, we will be in Canada soon, but sadly won't be in the Toronto area! The current plan is to take the Trent-Severn Waterway towards Georgian Bay. I don't believe that is near Toronto!? We are really excited to get to Canada, from what we hear from other Loopers, that is the BEST part of the Loop! Thanks so much for watching! :-)

What do you guys use for internet access? Cell service? Starlink? Other? Are you happy with it?
@coolbeansloop2024
@coolbeansloop2024 4 месяца назад
Hi Peter, well that is actually a hot topic aboard Cool Beans! She was not outfitted with Starlink when we bought her, and we thought we could get by with cell service hot spots and marina's free Wi-Fi - but after going over 2700 miles, we are tired of the inconsistency and frustrations - so we are ordering Starlink this week and installing it! We are both hoping it will be the best thing ever! Ask me in a month or two if I like Starlink and I will let you know!!! Thanks for watching! :-)

Lighthouses in the valley… Typically I think of lighthouses providing navigation near hazards…what is their purpose in what I imagine a river system?
@coolbeansloop2024
@coolbeansloop2024 4 месяца назад
I am going to offer an educated guess and say it's the same, to avoid hazards such as the rocky coasts and shallow waters of the river system. They are so cute on the Hudson River... more like houses and not as tall as the ones on the coast. Thanks for watching! :-)
