Does anyone have recommendations on towns to visit in the Chesapeake?! We are looking for places to stop as we head North towards Annapolis! Thank you as always for joining us on another week of adventures ❤

Deltaville - A West Marine, small grocery store, and few restaurants take the dingy over to "The Hole in The Wall" on Gwynn Island (closed Tues and Wed) Reedville is a nice small town, 2nd latest fish processor in the USA (on certain days there can be a major stink), several restaurants and fuel docks and the Great Wicomico River, with good anchorages. We live on Dividing Creek between Deltaville and Reedville, with good protective anchorages (we live further back on Dividing Creek with 4' depth at low tide). On the Eastern Shore, there is Cape Charles, Onancock a great little town, Crisfield has the best damn crab cakes on the bay as you head up the bay past the Potomac River there is Solomons tons to see and do. Then there is Smith Island and Tangier Island, though navigating to the island can be tricky. You might be better off taking a cruise boat to those islands you can catch a boat to Tangier in Reedville and Onancock and a boat to Smith Island (known for their Smith Island Cake) from Crisfield.

St Michael’s is a good place to visit. Opposite side of Chesapeake Bay from St. Michael’s (eastern shore). St Mary’s just north of Potomac River junction with Chesapeake Bay has nice anchorage. Rhode River just south of Annapolis has nice protected anchorages.

Just think, 4mths ago you were just starting out, brand new to sailing, i could see the stress and sometimes the fear in your eyes. With each and every wave you have sailed , engine problems you encountered, sea sickness , ect... yet you both powered through. Now im seeing joy and accomplishment in your eyes and your demeanor. I admire the perseverance that you both have shown there is no wave to high that you can't make it through together. You both are coming into your own on the boat and starting to enjoy the beauty that God has created and the ability he is giving you to live this life. As always stay safe and God bless

Nice video, very interesting as I am British with an American wife. As such , we have friends in that area and visited it about 10 years ago. Our friends have a business in Beaufort and live near Hilton Head. We travelled from the Carolinas all the way down the coast to Daytona Beach and then to the space centre. I love America and the people are so friendly, I would move there tomorrow if I could. Fair winds

Good to see you're both still going. Gutted to see the return of seasickness one time, but thankfully it looks like these periods are few and far between now compared to your initial sails. Amazing that you got to see the Harry Potter boat lol As a flex of my own, one time while on holiday at the coast in Spain near my ex in-laws home we happened to see Roman Abramovich's boat 'Eclipse' which is 162.5 metres long. It looked huge and we were quite a distance from it. Where we were staying was an apartment complex which overlooked the sea and it was on its way out of Valencia. I've got to say though, you both get to pick and choose where you go, on whims that only you two decide on. Me personally, I would much rather sail with you guys than JK Rowling. I have no doubt that the quality of company would be much better and I'd rather share your mackerel fillets than her champagne 😉😁 Hope you get to enjoy some great scenery as you head north. Hopefully you get to learn about where the safe inlets and bays are, plus get a better idea of the costs of sailing as you head up the coast. Make sure to note down your experiences for safe passages and money spent (if you're not already) so that you have something to refer back to in future years of sailing.
@patrickandmichaela
@patrickandmichaela 3 месяца назад
We don't have any plans to stop 🙂 I am sure we will still get a bit seasick at times, but hopefully it just gets easier and easier. 162.5 Meters is absolutely insane! We just looked at photos and wow. Just a cool 500 million on a yacht 😂 The same goes to you friend! Would much rather have company with real people sharing a more authentic experience than off in what is a fantasy land for most. We are certainly keeping a log of passages and costs, but could be doing a bit better of a job at descriptions to go along with it. Thanks as always for joining us on our adventures :) We really appreciate your stories and advice!

It's the largest municipal park in the country. I just happen to live across the street. ;-) Lots of nature trails, play grounds, picnic shelters, a visitor center and a nature center. There's even a camp site and boat rentals. If you happen to be in the neighborhood on some random Saturday afternoon I know where you can get a free meal and some nice people to visit with.

Norfolk has a nice marina near the Battleship Wisconsin is on display. Just starting up the Chesapeake is Cape Charles which has a great restaurant right at the marina. You can also rent a golf cart which they will deliver to the marina for when you arrive. You can drive into town and to the beaches on the north side of town. Several nice bar/restaurants in town. Just past Annapolis on the East Shore is Rock Hall. The marina has free loan of bicycles which you can ride into town on. Nice little spot. Someone already mentioned St. Michaels.

There could be a few causes for RPM variations when the fuel level is lower. It might be the fuel filter, but it could also be water or sludge in the tank(s) or an obstructed pick up.
@patrickandmichaela
@patrickandmichaela 3 месяца назад
Yeah, something we were also looking at. Especially when the waves get a bit rolly, can kick stuff up in the tank. Will have to do some maintenance short term, and look at cleaning the tank this summer. It doesn't look any worse in the last 6 months, but always better to have a clean tank. Might want to consider getting a hammock setup on the boat, some people say they find it better to lay in as sways with the boat and gives a more stable experience. Might help with seasickness? Never tried it myself. Just putting it out there. Or maybe even a hanging swing/chair? I have a question, have you guys weighed yourselves since living on a boat? I'm curious if the boat lifestyle of having to be relatively more active since there is always things to do, has had any effect on loosing weight? Several people I know said they plummeted down in weight when living on a boat.
@patrickandmichaela
@patrickandmichaela 3 месяца назад
Yeah we definitely have been thinking about getting a hammock going, just trying to figure out where to put it. I do believe we also have a swinging chair, but have yet to test it out. I don't think we have weighed ourselves since being on the boat, I don't think it would be possible unless you were on land. Even just using the little food scale is hilarious because even a little bit of movement causes it to shift up and down. I will say we both have noticed feeling stronger as we are a ton more active than we ever have been. The lifestyle just demands a lot more moving around, lifting heavy things, pulling and pushing heavy things, etc. We also cook at home way more than we ever have. So in those regards I would say it has been a good movement in the right direction for us 😊

What has been the most physically taxing thing to do on the boat, and what day, so far, out of your journey, left you the most sore the day after? If there haven't been any yet then never mind, I see ya'll tugging and shifting things around constantly, I know for sure I'd have felt it.
@patrickandmichaela
@patrickandmichaela 3 месяца назад
I am sure we will get more into it in a future video, but lately it has been cleaning the bottom of the boat. Being up in this dirty water has caused a lot more growth than expected, so something we are always working on. It is getting easier with some better tools. That and just lifting diesel jerry cans onto the boat because we don't love going to the fuel dock depending on how tight the marina is. But it is okay, definitely feeling stronger than we were 6 months ago!

Don’t understand the slow boat commitment??? Every Snow Goose I have sailed was capable of 9 Kts under power. Much faster than most monohulls of the same length. Every where on the Bay is tourist or mega bucks. I remember a great chowder joint in Fairhaven or Rosehaven, it’s been 6 years since I was in that area.

After joining the prout group I am with you! I am seeing people post regularly of 7, even 8.5 knots! I think she has a lot more speed in her than we have seen so far, but I think a couple factors such as having sails that are quite old and worn, getting the bottom clean, and learning to trim the sails better have really stopped us from seeing her potential 🙂 We did have a very quick crossing across the bahamas bank when we were seeing 20 knots of wind, I recall many 7.2 knot moments. And yeah, east coast, beach towns, etc will always be pretty pricy. We try to stay to the free or very affordable side of things 😂 but will still try to get some good adventures in 🙂 Thanks for joining us another week! 🎉⛵
