I was so excited to see Mr Westmore on the podcast! Some of my prize possessions are makeup test photos from his work on DS9! As a very sick home schooled child I was given a care package of personalized effects from the makeup and hair department by the brother of my teacher who worked with Mr Westmore! It made my very depressing 14 yr old day! Hes a legend and a wonderfully kind man!
Holy cow the names he dropped is such a casual manner shows what a legend he is and what a legendary family he comes from. Thanks for wrapping up my dreary weekend with such a gem!
Moms Mabley was a female black comedian who would come out on stage wearing a dumpy dress & carrying a shopping bag and she looked like she was 900 years old. She had a gravelly voice & would talk about men, white people and was very very funny and like Red Foxx & others she would do records with what was called blue material back then ( sexual words, swearing ). I got to see her at KPIX Channel 5 in San Francisco when she was on People Are Talking and like Redd Foxx and Rip Taylor, the audience was roaring in laughter.
I had so much fun in the chat during the premiere! Be sure, I'll be back whenever possible! Love this channel! Love Long and Prosper! (This was a typo, but it's too fitting, so it stays! lol!)
How wonderful to see Michael Westmore on to show. I've never seen him interviewed before so this was truly a treat. BTW, you should try to get Doug Drexler on. I mean he designed your Enterprise.
Mr. Westmore's contribution to Star Trek is appreciated. I wish the new MAs would not continually try to re-invent the established alien looks he developed.
Agreed. I think there's definitely room for some modifications. The same make up design from the 60s, 90s, and 00s probably wouldnt transfer well to high def but I don't know why the wheel needs to be completely reinvented all the time. The ferengi in disco are bad but those Klingons. Wow. What a mistake. Edit: the Borg are a great example of improvement.
I know! He really did beautiful work. It's one thing to improve where certain materials & techniques were available. But, if there are so many fans who love the universe, why would you distort it?
@@gohawks3571 You are hitting on the formula of retconning Trek: does changing this thing make things BETTER or are you simply trying to make a name or impact outside of helping or enhancing the universe? Westmore was brilliant at honoring what came before but innovating and pushing things forward.
What a behind-the-scenes treat to hear all this great history from Michael Westmore, and what a great EDUCATION about how this part of Hollywood functions! There's not just entertainment value in these shows but documentary importance as well. Thanks all-around, everyone!
Despite my covid headache, I can tell you I liked the episode. But I'll watch it again. I hope Dominic wasn't serious about the facelift. We don't want it to go wrong for him like it did for Burt Reynolds, etc. I say it honestly, a little more weight and the few wrinkles will almost disapear. And just always know, we like you as you are. Think about it.🌻
It's not North Idaho and South Idaho, it's Skinny Idaho and Fat Idaho. 😆😆ETA: What a fantastic interview with Michael Westmore! I really enjoyed hearing all the nerdy details about his craft, as well as his many stories about working with well-known actors and musicians. The 2 hours just flew by!
Connor, Dom and Erica - congrats on another fabulous episode! Michael was a wonderful guest, what a great get for The Pod. Really enjoyed how detailed and varied his stories were, and not just the Trek ones. I could listen to a whole another episode of his experiences! All the glitz and glamour of the biz sure didn't detract from how easy going and humble Michael is. I was surprised to hear he didn't plan on settling into the family business in the beginning but to be fair, he did have good reason. I would've jumped at the chance myself, doesn't seem like there's ever a dull moment in that line of work, that's for sure. The fact he had such a hand in creating so many recognizable and iconic Trek looks is astounding but not surprising. It's all very well done and the quality is apparent in everything in he had a hand in, no matter what Trek you're watching. Glad to see Wash is still doing well, he's working very hard to get those new leaves! (I still need to get a Wash t-shirt of my own already!) We're all rooting for you buddy! (Pun absolutely intended by the way.) As always I can't wait to see what next week has in store! Happy Shuttlepod Sunday, one and all! 😊🍃🖖💚
Resistance is futile when it comes to discovering this awesome Star Trek RU-vid channel! I'm glad RU-vid finally assimilated this channel to my recommendations list so I was able to find it. Thanks to Connor and Dominic for boldly going where no RU-vidrs have gone before, and to Erica, Mark, and the entire behind-the-scenes crew for keeping the ship running smoothly. Live long and prosper, my fellow Trekkies!
Great to see MW in the pod. I interviewed him for my blog in about 2005 and when I met him in person 4 years later (at an event we were both attending) he remembered meeting me and that I was in the UK at the time. He invited me to come to his studio in Burbank (or it might have been Toluca Lake) to hang out. Please tell him I said hello and pass along my best wishes for MacKenzie.
The design Michael Westmore did for the Andorians in Enterprise were brilliant. Simple but effective especially with the incorporation of the animatronic antennas, allowed the actors to work and get into character. The make up effects in Discovery for the Andorians and even the Klingons look great but overcomplicated when the actors spoke you can see it was too much, it must of been awful for some of the actors.
This man is amazing! He seems so young; how?! What a body of work💪 I really appreciate knowing about the behind the scenes guys. Thank you😊🤩 I can't believe the algorithm dropped the ball on this show. I watch all kinds of trek stuff (maybe sports more). I would have loved to have been here from the beginning!
finally made it to your newest...One of the greatest binge watch in my option. Thank you so much for your TRUTH. Letting us in like this is bravest. Would love just to meet ya. Brilliant conversation. Can't wait for more!! Thank you!
Love how you dig for interesting things from other StarTrek actors and Hollywood/StarTrek legends so it's like watching listening to a documentary biography
Thank you @ShuttlepodShow! Such a surprise to see Dom, Connor, and Mr. Westmore win trivia for me. 😃 Another great show. Thank you Erica and Mark and the rest of the crew. Made my day.
Such a nice guy and extremely talented. I bet if you had him back on the show he would have even more interesting stories to tell weather it be star trek related or his other work
I didn't believe I would like a show without a Trek star on it, but the interviews with directors, makeup, and other behind-the-camera people are so educational! It's helping my deep dive into all things Trek.
So watching the Star Trek shows, the finished product is absolutely wonderful. In this episode what really struck me was the myriad relationships of all the artists, technicians, and other film professionals with the actors and how their work made the show come to life. Seeing and hearing Michael, Connor, and Dominic speak with each other you get a glimpse of the closeness that comes from working together. This is a beautiful revelation of what goes on behind the scenes in support of getting the actors ready to bring the show to life. I had never really thought or considered what that must be like. But hearing the admiration and love in their interview while speaking of working together and what went into creating the characters for the show opened a whole new door of understanding and respect for me. Thank you for this show and this episode.
What an incredible coup! Thank you so much. May I request more behind the scenes wizards like PLEASE INTERVIEW MUSIC GENUISES JAY CHATTAWAY and DENNIS MCCARTHY and Production Designer Herman Zimmerman. That would be great.
Fantastic show with the legend of make-up in the industry - Michael Westmore ! Your conversation was nice, relaxing and entertaining! @ShuttlepodShow keeps outdoing themselves! ❤💛💙🤓🖖🏾
I so enjoyed the podcast immensely. I found the conversation between Connor, Dominic, Erica, Mark and Michael Westmore so humorous. Had to slow the treadmill down because laughing while jogging was not a good combination. Thank you for all your efforts every week.
I didn’t even know about this podcast until 2 weeks ago..! It’s so great to see Malcolm and Tripp still at it..! I’m trying to catch up and stay current! Lots of great content and conversations. I’ve missed you guys.
Found the podcast 3 weeks ago and it has added a new love to this 50 year old life-long fan that already includes 5 hours of Star Trek six nights a week on the Heros and Icons network. Can't wait to see everyone in Vegas!
Moms Mabley was a real person. Played on the Redd Foxx show, among other things - such as her stand-up act. You had to have been born in the late 1940s (as I was) to have seen her regularly on telly.
Playing catch up again, but what a fantastic podcast I now have a greater respect for make up artists, they definitely are geniuses in how they can transform actors. Michael was so entertaining but even though he didn't go into it but I feel that he was hoping that Enterprise could have gone on for another 3 seasons. Shuttlepod is just a brilliant podcast, well done everyone, Ed from South Australia 🍷🍷
One of the most inspiring lessons learned from this - here’s a man that has worked with hundreds of actors and producers etc… and no matter who he was being asked about, he had something kind and positive to say ❤ I bet that is one of the reasons why so many people love working with him -it just creates good energy where everyone can just focus on the work
Hey guys just want to say I'm a big trek fan my favorite is DS9 but I absolutely love enterprise and I think the show don't get enough credit it's was in my opinion some of the best Trek written and Connor Trip was my favorite character and Dominic you were fantastic just a brilliant actor it's sad the show got screwed I felt like if it came out today it's one of them show's that could go seven to ten years easy so just wanted to say thanks guys for some brilliant trek I rewatch it all the time
What a legend. Great to hear from Mr Westmore, he is such a huge part of the legacy of Star Trek. I really hope you get the Okudas and Jay Chattaway on too. Also, since you've been doing a lot of TNG, DS9 and Voyager actors recently, could you please interview some more ENT stars and guest stars? It would be great to hear from Scott, Jolene and Linda. A great guest star from ENT would be Randy Oglesby not only was he the iconic Degra, he played multiple roles on DS9 and Voyager. Thank you for this interview. LLAP 🖖
This is awesome! He’s one of the best in the business. Do you think Neville Page would also come on your show to talk about his creature creations for Star Trek?
i have a question as a warp 1 previous patren my question is if ray leota was still alive after cocaine bear would u draw up a budget too do film where it was modeled after Seinfeld with jerry Seinfeld.
I have always been into movie makeup but not talent for it. That said I have always wanted to follow the god of make up Mr Westmore around and watch everything he does in the make up room and design
In all seriousness do you have license to make copies and sell them? because the fans would just eat that up big time. I know I would personally absolutely.
As a film/TV/Broadway/opera wardrobe person, I especially enjoyed this episode, but even if I didn't have any point of reference careerwise with Mr. Westmore, I could have listened to his candid tales for hours. As stated at the beginning, he's a bona fide Hollywood legend and an incredible artist/craftsman. That he considers himself "an employee" speaks to his professionalism and down-to-earthness even with the Westmore "royal family" pedigree and his own astounding resume.
I've been searching all over the internet for the lyrics to the intro song, because it's so annoying that I can't understand what the guy is saying at the end. "Having a ball, it's Star Trek y'all, hey [unintelligible] beam me up!!" Someone PLEASE tell me wtf he is saying. "Hey there's a rover, beam me up" "hey come on over, beam me up" "hey dibbadobba beam me up"
@The Shuttlepod Show Ohhh that makes sense lol thank you!! Love the show by the way! I'm looking forward to the Kate Mulgrew and Bob Picardo episodes! 😉
I had no idea Worf was intended as an extra. That makes sense why the cast had no idea who Michael Dorn was at first and why he was brought on late to the show and not with the regular cast auditions.
🤔Interesting. I seem to remember that a big fuss was made (maybe only in the media, rather than the show)about a Klingon being on the bridge crew. So I would be surprised if he was only meant to be an extra. 🤔
I just watched the whole show and my mind is totally BLOWN away Wow 👀 this interview was incredible 100% I got so engulfed in the stories oh My God so deep and enriched.
This is wonderful, very insightful the the business. I think y'all should rename it to "giving away the game" on acting & behind the scenes! I enjoy what you're all doing. Thank you.
Wow, this video is simply amazing. Mr. Westmore is such a talented man. I had no idea he worked with Bowie, wow, my favorite musician and my favorite show. ❤❤ I really like that these videos don't feel like an interview, but as an actual conversation.
Yet another awesome interview knocked out of the park! I always enjoy seeing Mr. Westmore talk about his experiences! I think it would be cool if you guys did a Shuttlepod Show tour across the country. I'd love to see you guys here in Chicago!
Do you have any footage of that LA event that Connor and Dominic mentioned in the first minute?? I would love LOVE to see that as I am u able to travel or otherwise would go and support you guys at events like that. Thanks for sharing.
She’s a major part of American humour, apparently forgotten, her career started prior to television, however she did appear on Ed Sullivan, The Smothers Brothers and, Mabley, portrayed by Wanda Sykes, appears in the final episode of the third season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, performing a full stand-up routine on the Apollo Theater stage.
Wow such a fantastic interview. I could listen to Mr Westmores stories for hours. His family spans the entire history of Hollywood. A legend, who has worked with so many other legends
I know a lot of people love the Manny Coto year and I think he product some very good episodes but I prefer the Berman/Braga view of Enterprise. More original and interesting. Manny's version was trying to hard to look like and be TOS.
