Another good video. I showed parts of it to my wife because it covered lots of where we rode together just last week. We loved those trestle bridges. We are amazed at just how many kilometres you achieve each day. Especially carrying all your camping gear. When I'm bikepacking I only aim at about half your distances each day. Although, being retired, means I can take my time.

The trestle bridges were awesome to see, well worth to see them in person to take in their sheer scale. Was a great ride through east Gippsland. I recon when I plan another trip, I'd be happy to reduce my km's per day significantly and spend more time exploring the places along the way.

2 great videos in a row. Love to see it. From a complete stranger, and fellow Victorian (who grew up close to Croydon), keep them coming please. Loving the content.

No worries, I'll be doing my best to finish the editing so that they can all get released weekly with no interruptions. I'll have to start planning a future trip though to follow this up haha. Thanks!

@dannydonehue Mate there are plenty of great tracks near you. I'm currently in Launch Pub for a parma in the middle of doing the Lilydale to Warbie Trail. Great ride, highly recommend it.

Now I'm excited to watch this. I've hiked that rail trail, only took about 4.5 days 😅 Beautiful scenery, and conveniently placed with a bus that I could take to get back home to Canberra

That'd be a great way to spend a week. The trail felt long on a bike, can't imagine how long that would have felt by foot!

This is awesome. Realistic summary of what this kind of trip is like. Have been toying with the idea of a similar trip for a while now (Sydney-Melbourne on the mountain bike via the mountains). Watching this makes it all seem much more feasible :)

@@gaylerule6707 Yeah, it’s a shame I skipped Bruthen. Had read lots of good things about it. But I think the shortcut was necessary to get me to cape Conran on time. I’d love to go back sometime with family and do the whole trail.

Have you noticed that while cows (and horses, and sheep) will ignore motor vehicles but they take a huge interest in bicycles?
@dannydonehue

Haha yeah definitely. Cars, trucks etc and all hoon past without bother, but some weirdo on a bike in the middle of nowhere confuses the heck out of them 😂

That road from Marlo down to Cape Conran would have felt very remote on the bike
@dannydonehue
@dannydonehue Месяц назад
Yeah it did, not the remotest stretch though. I think the first half of the next day was possibly the most remote riding. About 2 or 3 cars seen up until lunch. You’ll see that Thursday :)

Absolutely epic ride. I’ve done some short rides on the rail trail and visited the trestle bridge (by car). It’s a nice region.
@dannydonehue
@dannydonehue Месяц назад
Yeah, I could not recommend doing this days ride enough! The rail trail is beautiful and riding a long it felt effortless. It's amazing the amount of earth-moving done back when to create a track where the gradient changes are hardly noticeable.

You have a nice setup on your bike. Is that a Tailfin rack you’re using on the rear end? What size are the side pannier bags on the rear.
@dannydonehue
@dannydonehue Месяц назад
Hey, in general on this trip since it was a first, I tried to go as budget as I could (so that if I hated it I hadn’t invested too much). The rack was $60 from my local bike shop (BPW carrier rear - disc). Equipment list is in the description. I believe the panniers are a 40L pair. Panniers we’re my biggest purchase (aside from the bike), as the previous ones I had (Azur) I had to return as the mounting clip snapped.

@@dannydonehue How was the weather? Would like to do a similar route at the end of the year
@dannydonehue
@dannydonehue 26 дней назад
The weather was actually very pleasant, think I got quite lucky . This was the 16th to 24th of December, hottest day I had was day 3 on the east gippy rail trail, think it got to 34 or so that day. And not too much rain aside from at night, a couple light showers during the days and the very last day coming into Coledale it bucketed which made for an interesting finish haha.

@@Dmitryzakharov hey, added the gear I used to the description. The clips were mostly from my phone (iPhone X), go pro hero 4 and then the occasional shot from a Sony a5100 (which luckily my wife let me bring).

What are those glasses you wear? they seem to be Photochromic, would you recommend them?
@dannydonehue
@dannydonehue Месяц назад
Hey, I'm probably not the best cycle gear head to ask as I have no proper cycling glasses or gear really to compare to (one of the padded shorts I'm wearing on this trip are XL, Ladies and from an op shop lol). In general I have no complaints with them, they do the job on cloudy or sunny days etc. I think there's several brands all selling the same cheap photochromic glasses. These are 'Kapvoe' I believe. For the price yeah I'd recommend giving them a go.
@MegaWombatGaming

What portable battery and phone holder do you use?
@dannydonehue
@dannydonehue Месяц назад
Hey, I had 2 large batteries - a 15600 mAh TP-Link battery and my most used one was the 'Snap Wireless 5 in 1 travel adapter with power bank'. Can plug is straight into a power outlet to charge, has cables attached & slots for more outputs too. A handy little battery for travelling. I also began with a little solar battery from Kmart, built that fell off by bike toward the end of the second day (i had it strapped onto the bar bag to try and solar charge it).
