James is the first one to tell you that he was a bad person, destructive to the neighborhood, etc etc..all that jazz. His point is, gangs seem like they aren't going to go away tomorrow. If we could, we'd snap our fingers and they'd disappear. Since they are here..and since they commit crimes, it would be better overall for the innocent community if there were rules, protocol, and more organization. If rival gangs had regular meetings with each other and got to know each other on a human level..If younger guys actually listened to older guys and don't just be wild renegades..Instead of shooting your enemy, the older guys could organize a sit-down to squash things, which would be easy if these gangs knew each other personally from baseball games, meetings, basketball games, etc. The idea is, if you can organize and structure these gangs to be less violent and more responsible in their crimes, then maybe the gangs would die-out and won't be able to recruit a new generation. If older guys could actually influence gang members to graduate, attend colleges..If older homies owned businesses and were in positions of legal influence, they could hire them. That's what structure is. Structure means integrating criminals into civilian life. Instead of supporting your homies in criminal activity, help your homies obtain businesses by being their patrons/customers/supporters. Of course, this is all in a perfect world, but it has to start somewhere. But unfortunately, as long as rap music exists, that will have the dominant influence over the youngsters. Rap music is basically their bible, and it influences them to do bad things more than good things, so we can't accomplish anything until we deal with that factor.
