This video corresponds to the 2020 edition by Baronius Press, which is available directly from www. BaroniusPress.com or the EWTN Religious Catalog.
“The Conclusions of Prayers in the Little Office” handout may be applied as follows (you can mark your book, but you will quickly see the patterns). Please note that several of these are awkward transitions, possibly typos. They are found near the end of each Hour.
#1: Through our Lord &c.
#2: Through the same &c.
#3: Who liveth and reigneth &c.

Pages: 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 104, 105

All other end with #3
Pages: 118, 120, 121, 131, and 142
(Please let me know if I have any of these wrong.)
The first Psalm in Matins should be Psalm 94 (thanks to the viewer who caught my error). If you have a Bible that uses the Hebrew system of Psalm numbering (instead of the Greek used here), you will know this as Psalm 95. See explanation here: taylormarshall...
If you are missing the Concluding Prayers page, it may be found here: www.baronius.c...

Hi Deanna, Please help me understand. This little office of the Blessed Virgin was made in accordance to Summorum Pontificum which has to do with the traditional liturgical calendar, which does not have ordinary time. I’m a little confused how ordinary time is included in here. Thank you for your help

Those are actually my notes. Check page xvi for details. “Office 1 is used throughout the year; Office 2 is used during Advent; and Office 3 is used from the first Vespers of the Nativity until the Feast of the Purification. Office 2 is also used on the Feast of the Annunciation.”

Please can you explain again how to use that little paper (the conclusions of prayers in the little office)?
@DeannaWillistonOFS
@DeannaWillistonOFS 2 года назад
Yes, the easy part is the full Glory be (Gloria Patri) is on it. If you don’t have this prayer memorized yet, do it first as it is repeated over and over during the Hours. Next, there are three variations of other “&c.” prayers. In the second example from the card-see page 25, “Let us pray. O God who wast pleased…” this Prayer is directed to the Father. Note how it continues, though, “that thy Word, at the message of an angel, should take flesh…” this is referring to the Son as well, so when we get to the &c. part, “Through the same Lord, &c.,” we go to the second example on the card “Through the same Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord, …(jump up to the first example now) …who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.” Hmm I think I will write up which is used where and put it in the description for you tomorrow. You can just add the notes into your book. (I will, too!)

I just acquired mine! Thank you for this walkthrough. When exactly are we to pray the Variations for Office 3? Also, in regard to the Nocturnes, are we to supposed to pray the one that corresponds to the current day?
@DeannaWillistonOFS
@DeannaWillistonOFS 10 месяцев назад
Office 3 is First Vespers of the Nativity (Christmas Eve) through Compline of the Purification (I wrote that in my book so I wouldn’t forget, but it’s on page xvi) and I use the Nocturns assuming that Matins starts at midnight of the new day. Does that help?

There "officially" isn't an official Little Office anymore, right?
@DeannaWillistonOFS
@DeannaWillistonOFS Год назад
I don’t exactly understand how you are using “official,” but I’ll try my best to answer. The are several versions of the Little Office of the BVM and all are approved prayers of the Church. Are any orders using one of them as a part of the Rule? I am not sure, but there well may be. As a Secular Franciscan, we are free to pray any of the offices, with a preference for praying two of the hours daily. (Basically saying it varies by congregation/order.

Whoops! Venite exultemus Psalm 94 …I do sometimes panic in the moment. Thank you for the correction as to the meaning of the “c,” but I am not sure what translation would have this as Psalm 92 (please let me know and I can add that in the notes). The Hebrew numbering system (as used in the NAB & RSV has this as Psalm 95).

I see you have Franciscan motives behind...you should get the Little office published by Roman Seraphic books, it's pre 1961 and has the commemorations for St Joseph, St Francis and St Clare. Gilded pages, color ribbons, illustrations including the OFM coat of arms in the beginning, top notch.

Hi. Thank you very much for your very helpful videos on "The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary". A question. In the Baronius Press version, I think it says to add an Alleluia after, among other things, all versicles (V) and responsories (R). Does that mean that, for example, we do this: V: Etc. etc. etc. R: Etc. etc. etc. V: Etc. etc. etc. R: Etc. etc. etc. V: Etc. etc. etc. R: Etc. etc. etc. Alleluia. Or do we do this: V: Etc. etc. etc. R: Etc. etc. etc. Alleluia V: Etc. etc. etc. R: Etc. etc. etc. Alleluia V: Etc. etc. etc. R: Etc. etc. etc. Alleluia Or do we do this: V: Etc. etc. etc. Alleluia. I can’t seem to add a photo, so I’ll try to type out the text just in case you don’t know these prayers (I didn’t). 1) If the prayer is address to the Father it is concluded: Through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen. Aka Per Dominum nostrum Jesum Christum Filium Tuum, qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitate Spiritus Sancti, per omnia saecula saeculorum. Amen.

2) If the prayer is addressed to the Father, but mention is made of the Son in the beginning of it, it is concluded: Through the same Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Our Lord, &c. as above. aka Per eumdem Dominum Nostrum, &c. ut supra.

Gloria Patri -said at the conclusion of all psalms in the Office. It is not said at the conclusion of the Benedícite in Lauds. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen. aka Gloria Patri, et Filio: et Spiritui Sancti; Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper: et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

Do we have to pray the whole prayers from Matins to Compline in one day per designated or assigned time/hr.? Or is it okay to pray only some of the prayers, like Prime and Vespers?
@DeannaWillistonOFS
@DeannaWillistonOFS 9 месяцев назад
Depends on who you mean by “we.” Different orders have different requirements. If you are laity and not in a Third Order, you may pray as many or as few as you like. Secular Franciscans are encouraged to pray at least 2 “hours” of an Office daily. Many people begin with just Compline, to get to know the rhythm of the office. Often, people end up with Lauds and Vespers. Others say everything but the daytime hours and some pray all the hours.

I am praying this for the Sabbatine Privilege. On Wed and Sat, it is either abstinence from meat or the Little Office.

One of the conditions of the Sabatine Privilege is, on Wed and Sat, either abstaining from meat or praying the Little Office. I figure then we should pray all the prayers for that day. The midnight and 3 am we incorporate into our daytime prayers. I hope it's ok.
