Venice, Florida on the Gulf Coast is called the shark tooth capital of the world. Venice is known for its spectacular shoreline, offshore coral reef, parks, wonderful restaurants, Italian Renaissance buildings, Mediterranean-style shops, and palm trees that line the streets. Venice is the sister city to Venice, Italy. Venice Inlet allows easy access into the Intracoastal Waterway and out to the Gulf of Mexico.
Setting sail on May 10, 2024. Confederate Memorial Day is a day of remembrance in South Carolina on May 10 of each year. April 26, is the date the state of Florida officially honors the Floridians who took up arms against the invading federal army. It is estimated that 4 out of 5 males in South Carolina of fighting age, fought for Southern Independence. South Carolina lost 12,922 men in the war which was 23% of the white male population of fighting age, the highest percentage of any state. By the end of the war in 1865, the violence across the South’s fight for Southern Independence resulted in an estimated 1.5 million casualties.
Of those killed, about 360,000 were Union soldiers (about 23% of the total Union army) and about 260,000 were Confederate soldiers (about 24% of the Confederate army). There were roughly 476,000 soldiers wounded and another 400,000 soldiers were declared missing. 462,684 Confederate soldiers were captured, 247,769 paroled and 25,976 died while in captivity. One in five white southern men of military age did not survive the War for Southern Independence. In addition, distinguished Civil War historian James McPherson has estimated that there were 50,000 civilian deaths during the war and has concluded that the overall mortality rate for the South exceeded that of any country in World War I, and all but the region between the Rhine and the Volga in World War II. South Carolina provided around 60,000 troops for the Confederate Army. The exact number of South Carolina civilians raped, brutally tortured, and killed by Federal troops during the war and in the oppressive rule by the federal government during the years of Reconstruction is unknown.
Growing up in the Appalachian Mountain region of North and South Carolina the song, The Blackest Crow (My Dearest Dear) touches the heart and was played by the Scots-Irish. It was said to be written around the time or shortly after the War for Southern Independence. Rhiannon Giddens and Francesco Turrisi's version while in Dublin, Ireland reflects the true emotion of traditional Appalachian folk music, from those hard and difficult times.
As time draws near, my dearest dear,
When you and I must part,
What little you know of the grace and awe
Of my poor aching heart.
Each night I suffer for your sake,
You're the one I love so dear;
I wish that I was going with you,
Or you were staying here.
I wish my breast was made of glass
Wherein you might behold
Oh there your name I's wrote, my dear,
In letters made of gold.
Oh there your name I's wrote, my dear,
Believe me what I say,
You are the one I love the best
Until my dying day.
The crow that is so black, my love,
will surely turn to white
If ever I prove false to you,
Bright day return to night.
Bright day return to night, my love
The elements will mourn,
If ever I prove false to you
The seas will rage and burn.
And when you're on some distant shore,
Think of your absent friend,
And when the wind blows high and clear,
A line to me, pray send.
And when the wind blows high and clear,
Pray send a note to me,
That I might know by your handwrite
How time has gone with thee.
Beauty flies different historic Southern and Celtic flags depending on the occasion, day and location. May 10th, Confederate Memorial Day in South Carolina is a day of remembrance. Starboard - The crescent moon of the current flag of South Carolina was first used for South Carolina Revolutionary War troops beginning in 1775. Port - A flag known as the Sovereignty flag, a blue cross with stars on a red field, incorporating the crescent and palmetto tree and designed in 1860.

You doubled the weight of your boat. Using the Gross tonnage formula or just it’s displacement the numbers are about half what you stated. Just saying….

What is stated on the video is correct. Gross tonnage has nothing to do with the weight of a vessel. Gross tonnage is the nonlinear measure of a ship's overall internal volume as defined by the US Coast Guard which does the calculation for US documented ships/boats using their standards, which is also used internationally. You seem to be confused in thinking that gross tonnage is the same as displacement or dead weight of a vessel. It’s not and has nothing to do with a vessels weight as you stated. Maybe this will help you to understand how the Coast Guard determines the gross tonnage of a vessel. www.dco.uscg.mil/Portals/9/MSC/Tonnage/TG.01.CH-3_2022.03.24.Simplified%20Measurement.pdf?ver=JLecPz9ZKFMSmmz_a03Iew%3d%3d
