❤ Some of the best country music ever. They don’t even come close to making country music like this today. I absolutely miss the music and passion from back then. God bless the legends from back then that created the music to set the standards we still love today ❤
I don't think of myself as a country music fan but I really liked this show. The country songs of the 60s and 70s are the best. They remind me of my youth. There was always a mix of country, rock and soul songs on the jukeboxes back in the day.
Every episode is a gem, but now and then something magical happened when certain singers were brought together and the show unfolded like a dream. This is one of those magical episodes. Those were the days when record companies fought to sign real talent, not just T&A shakers.
Holy shit, this might be the single best episode of Midnight Special ever! This isn't really even my main genre not by a long-sight, but the concentration of legend-level talent here in one show, the one-after-another legend-tier songs performed by Pantheon names... this is truly Special.
@@eternallife9786 No doubt about it. And it's like they got an All-Star group to come on for this show, one after another. Even Don Gibson's set is gold.
@@honeychilerider I've always been partial to country music from late 20s up to the mid 70's but to be fair it wasn't really called country music until after world war II it was still being referred to as hillbilly music we didn't really get the term country music tell the later reincarnation of the Carter family
This was an awesome show! Each performer was a heavy hitter ... a star. They are all gone now except for Tanya Tucker and Johnny Rodriguez ... and Country Music will never be the same.
This one hour show is about the best example of country music as you will ever find. It does not feature all of the genuine country stars, but it embodies the "soul" of country. It is truly priceless!
My Goodness this was a monster show ! Little did anyone know back then that country would die and shows like this would age like fine wine. Thanks so much for this ! 😀😀😀👏👏👏
I feel like The Midnight Special picked up where shows like The Ed Sullivan Show left off. Showcasing musicians that are considered legendary, and performances that are considered historic today. Thank you Mr. Burt Sugarman for contributing to preserve music history.
Eh, the best of unadulterated recorded music was recorded from 1890s to 1939 anything after that while it's still might be good music to listen to it was sure on a decline
Marty and Tammy should have had their own variety show after this !! Great chemistry, hilarious banter. Marty was a huge talent that left us way too early
I was lucky enough to see Marty and Merle Haggard back in the seventies and my son just was fascinated with Marty's yellow canary suit and boots never will forget that night
My Mom loved Conway Twitty. WOW.. I dont think i heard this song, You've Never Been So Far ....in 50 years! I can still remember her playing the record. Really enjoyed watching this. I was 8 when this was shown. Parents would watch these perfomers on TV. Had the records. SAD, to think almost all passed away. Only Tanya, and Johnny Rodriguez are still alive today, I believe. Great music never dies.
Loved The Midnight Special. Great Collection of artists. True country singers. Real talent. No special effects or wild costumes, just great music and country stars. I grew up listening to all these country classics. The Midnight Special was the best. Waited for this show every Friday night. Always awesome.
How wonderful that these programs were recorded live. I love hearing the performers voices …the beautiful gifts they were given and so generously shared with us.
My mon had some cousins who grew up here, around Hardy, AR, and they became country music stars in Nashville. They had a syndicated TV show in the 60s and early 70s and they were first to sign Loretta to a tour contract and appearances on their weekly shows. She became a star later on, thanks much to the Wilburn Brothers...they were a class act and may they rest in peace
Priceless Music. Irreplaceable!!! Todays music is all about themselves. These people really care about pleasing the people that came to see them, not just for money!!!
This show is the concentrated version of classic country music. I was 16 when I watched this episode of TMS. Wow! Looking back, it's absolutely chock-full of hardcore country singers. What a treasured moment in time. Thanks for the upload. It helped me re-live a great time in my life.
This brings my childhood back to life. On a side note.... other than those old Crisco commercials, i believe this is the only time i have ever seen Loretta Lynn wearing slacks. This is a fantastic collection of 70's country music headliners.
Just got back from Nashville, TN & the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum, was fantastic! Makes this segment all the more special to see. My favorite part of museum was the Los Angeles, CAcountry rock connection in the 70’s aka Poco, the Eagles, Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, CCR, Linda Ronstadt etc…fabulous musicians~bands.👌♥️
Unbelievable this was 50 years ago and to me probably one of the top shows of my lifetime - I was 17 when this aired. Marty & Loretta Super talented are my all time favorites but this night had major talent but that's what made the Midnight Special so great was the musical talent every weekend. I don't think any music shows has ever come close.
I love this! Wow. An all-Country music edition. ALL ARTISTS WHO I LOVE, AND I REMEMBER HEARING, 50 YEARS AGO, WHEN I WAS 9 YEARS OLD. Memories, this is the country music that I like, not today's stuff.
And Somebody Told Wolfman Jack "Why Don't You Do A Country Show Once. ??? And Likely He Went And Called Marty Robins .....And What a Show He Got. Couldn't Have Been Finer.!!!
I keep coming back & watching this episode over 'n over, & sharing it also! It takes me back to the 1970s memories of my youth, and touches my soul in a way that only Classic Country Music can do! "Thank you" so much to this channel's creator! 🎸🎶❤☮✌
Marty Robbins did the second song on this a rendition of his smash "Don't Worry." At 8:54, I half-expected the fuzz bass to kick in. I'm watching this in installments, and so far love what I've seen. Posting 11-22-23.
Was privileged to see the Grand Ole Opry in summer of 1973 at the Ryman. Marty Robbins closed the show. I had a real thing for Johnny Rodriguez in high school. His later recording of Barry Gibb's "Rest Your Love on Me" is still one of my favorites.
@@janicetrimmell6897 I couldn't speak any true Spanish to speak of, but That didn't STOP me from making-up words and singing right along with him when he sang one of the verses in Spanish!😁LOL. Ahhh, ....to be Young again, AND to be brave enough to sing made-up words to songs Out Loud Again!!😅😜
@@gloriamaryhaywood2217 I should still be 19!! It was a rarity for singers with Mexican heritage to be so successful in Country music back then. He embraced his Tejano roots, and slipped Spanish verses in some of his work. I knew a tiny bit of Spanish, and thought I was singing along with the true lyrics. I probably didn't get a lot of it right. But, I played those albums so much, I should have learned! Mostly I just loved his gorgeous Texas voice.
Loretta, just a delightful beautiful shining light ❤Tammy, such a lovely beautiful woman with gorgeous hair ❤and Tanya was just a baby finding her way. I always loved Tammy ,especially after life with George, and Tanya in the late 80s. Seeing this just reminds me how incredible Loretta was from starting on earth to the day she got her wings ❤. Thank you so much for this ❤. 2024 and old country still beats everything else ❤
Every Singer there are the golden age of Country Music! They sound as good live as they do on record! No Auto Tune just real talent! Regretfully all of them are deceased except for Tanya Tucker and Johnny Rodriguez, another fantastic singer! I’m glad I grew up on their music! The Eighties and even the early Nineties was still good! Very few traditional singers anymore! Maybe a few that carry the craft! George and Alan can’t get played anymore! It’s now pop music!
This is amazing! True lyrics, true (no tech) sound! And the clothes…..I FRICKIN LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS EDITION of Midnight Special! Thinking of you, Moma and Daddy!!!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I absolutely love this! It's the first time I've ever saw this, & so glad I stumbled upon it. So many talented & legendary Country Music Artists, it's so amazingly awesome!!! ❤
