Hans and Jason have dedicated their professional lives to the night vision and thermal industry, as well as the the broader night hunting world. Spending so many days, months and years immersed in the industry and sport, they are always looking for ways to make things better, solve problems or simplify things. Today they offer a short wish lists of a few things they'd like to see changed or improved. While this list is by no means all encompassing, it does detail a few of the larger areas where improvement could be made. And while none of these things are simple fixes and likely won't be implemented any time soon, it's still worth discussing them and hopefully some ears are listening in positions that can help make positive changes over time. If you have other suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments below!

I enjoyed this show more than some of the reviews because you guys are right on the money with some of these problems. The number of models has become somewhat overwhelming, also on the point of used scopes. We have to realize that thermals are like all electronics, they are not going to hold there value for years. The only way I see them holding their value is if the technology ceases to improve and I personally don't want that. We need to understand even the best optic will depreciate over time, weigh that into your decision when making the investment.

I am finding it more difficult to find info/videos/reviews on youtube. I am also seeing more folks keeping their youtube accounts going, but loading their content on Rumble. So far, it seems Rumble is the least restrictive video content sight. By the way; I spoke with Hans yesterday about some helmet/rifle mountable thermal scopes. Thank you so much for taking the time to call me back (twice). Between feeding animals and performing water changes on aquariums, I was able to ask my questions and get good solid answers. Now to do some more research and see which of the recommended thermal scopes will be my next scope. Outdoor Legacy will be getting my business for sure! Thank you again.

Years ago pulsar came out with the rxq30v that featured a bezel type opening for the objective cover. This system is superior to flip up scope covers because unlike flip-up scope covers it doesn't fail. Flip up scope covers are cheap and they're made out of plastic that off gases and fails, don't click into place they get sticky and they're not reliable. If the manufacturer made a bezel system to protect the objective lens I would pay extra money for that system because I know it would last.

Good Morning from Corrupt Illinois and thanks for another great episode. My thing is outside of Optics but would be great. Like you mentioned early in the video about hearing loud shots at night I think all States should allow the use of Suppressors. The Anti-Guners here Banned them because they said they thought people would be doing Illegal things. They also mentioned if we were worried about our hearing then we should stop using firearms.

Thanks for watching and the comments. There’s no doubt we think suppressors should be way more accessible and available to buy right off the shelf!

I would like to see more options in the clip on thermal market, something like the agm stingir with an adm mount. Just more options (more price competition) in that space.

In regards to the comments of law enforcement not understanding all of the details regarding night hunting. I will share with you what I did starting over 10 years ago when anyone in Mississippi out at night with rifles and optics were guilty of poaching deer. I wanted to insure I was following the law to the best of my understanding and had some conflicting info from multiple law enforcement officers. So I went the the wildlife and fisheries website and there is a questions tab. I wrote to them and offered up all of my questions on how to night hunt for hogs and coyotes and follow the letter of the law. It took some time but I received a response and I printed this response and I used it as a checklist and kept it with my license. This served me in two ways, I could present this info when checked in the field to show I am following the intent of the law. Which, I did do and the law enforcement officer was appreciative of the effort. The second way it would serve me is in the evert the officer was just having a bad day and wrote a citation that conflicted with the written direction I received from wildlife and Fish, I would present it to the judge when I contested the violation. When we are in the field at night we need to be better than just good enough to protect the rights we have and further advance those rights for others. Do with this info as you will but it has served me well. God Bless and good hunting.

That is excellent! If you can get the email with all those questions answered it definitely gives you a great legal footing to start off with if you ever need it. We’ve had a lot of customers tell us they’ve tried to get some info in writing but got stone walled because their wildlife dept wouldn’t put anything in writing, which is really sad. But if they will, your idea is fantastic!!

Thermal scopes should use a modular architecture (like computer) that allows scopes to be upgraded with the latest and greatest sensors when they come out so the user doesn't have to upgrade the entire scope. Modular architecture would make the scope hold its value. I think Pulsar Telos is on the right track. Dual magnification is huge as well. It makes the scope appeal to more hunters. Good job AGM and Iray for that. We need integrated rangefinders on every scope or a way to mount one.

What about a trade-in program through the manufacturer's like many of the dog hunting companies do towards a new unit? I think that may work, then the manufacturer's could sell their referb units at a lesser price and possibly make more sales because guys can get a quality scope or monocular for a lesser price. Keep the videos coming fella. I love em and I made sure my first thermal came from y'all.
@TheLateNightVisionShow
@TheLateNightVisionShow 4 месяца назад
Good idea but that would cut the dealers like ourselves out and neither us nor the manufacturers want that. The new and current largest obstacle is that the resale values aren’t what they were before so you’re already getting less when you sell your used scope and for the manufacturer (or dealer) to really make money on the trade they need to give you a whole lot less than the new lower used retail value. It turns into almost an insulting situation for the person trying to trade their scope. Maybe there will be some solution over time. Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts!

And I think that transferable warranty is really the main avenue to be able to sell used thermals. Just my opinion.

Yes and the good news is that over the last few years the manufacturers have all moved to transferable and longer warranties. It’s a huge win for the consumer.

The "trade-in" could be a great way to expand the market...somewhat like the "certified" programs some auto dealers utilize. Instead of "refurbished", which to me means it was once broken and now fixed, it would be certified used. The 3rd party, dealer, would be a bit more reassuring to the buyer than buying from an individual as the dealer is more into the customer than the individual seller, although buying items from individuals is generally less $ because of overhead. Most folks know they don't get as good a price for their trade-in as if they held it for private sale, but it is immediately off their hands and their new "driver" will have an uncluttered place in the garage/vault. If new with similar features is less $ than what one is will to sell their old for, sentiment is the blocker there.
@TheLateNightVisionShow
@TheLateNightVisionShow 4 месяца назад
That’s a good idea. The issue we see is that people are not willing to trade in their used optic for what it’s really worth. They are overvaluing it by waaaay too much. Until that works it self out (and it likely will when they can’t trade or sell it out right) then the used market can stabilize. Thank you for your suggestions and ideas!
@williamgaines9784
@williamgaines9784 4 месяца назад
@@TheLateNightVisionShow My thing is, if it is "worth" so much to them, they should just keep using it. With most electronics, the value of an item depreciates exponentially. If one can buy a new item, with the same resolution and features as my "used" one, even if it was only a closet queen, they are NOT going to pay ANYWHERE near the retail price, because the one feature mine will NOT have is the new product's warranty. When I go for the next addition to my thermal optics stable, I will keep you in mind.

Call me crazy but having a scope that goes from two power to four power seems incrementally almost undistinguishable. When I am day hunting, I generally walk around with my scope on the lowest power which is three or four, when I see a potential target I first look at three power and then turn it up to 10 power or so to take the shot. Somebody needs to come out with an optic with option for true High optical magnification that changes between a very low power like three power to 10x. If the Rico Pro did something like this I think a lot of people would be very interested.
@TheLateNightVisionShow
@TheLateNightVisionShow 4 месяца назад
Thanks for watching. So to be clear, you’re saying you don’t see a big difference in a 2x and 4x with a thermal or you don’t see the big difference with a daytime scope?
@corneliuspeeples7192
@corneliuspeeples7192 4 месяца назад
Thanks for the reply! I don't see a big difference between 2X and 4X when zooming in with day or thermal scopes. When Zooming scopes from 2 to 4 the difference is barely perceptible. When hunting with a daytime optic most people keep their optic on lowest magnification while hunting in case something pops up close but change more to something like 10x when they engage target at any significant distance. I have hunted pigs the same way but end up using digital magnification because there is no optical magnification that goes that high. It would be great if at least one company would make a scope that had one lens with a base magnification of 2X and a second magnification, optical, of 10x. The RICO Pro and AGM Clarion both have the capability of changing optical magnification, so I know the engineering is possible, but I'm not sure why they chose such a small jump in magnification. You just have to make up the rest in digital magnification which loses resolution. A thermal scope with optical zoom from 2X to !0x is what I'm looking for. I think there would be great interest in this from others as well.
@TheLateNightVisionShow
@TheLateNightVisionShow 4 месяца назад
A 10x optical magnification on an optic like that would require something like a 200mm lens, actually it might be even more. And the higher you go up in resolution the larger the lens has to be. That’s why the 50mm 1024 Thermion XL50 is a 1.75x and the 75mm 1208 RS75 is a 2x. Maybe there will be a break through in technology but currently it’s just not reasonably possible.
@corneliuspeeples7192
@corneliuspeeples7192 4 месяца назад
Thanks for the information. I don't understand how it can be done with a day optic and not a thermal. I need more understanding of how the lenses interact with the digital thermal technology. I clearly need to do some more studying of the technology. I appreciate your time

You know I don't even think they would have to reduce the scope models, although it would help. I think if they could just come up with some scope names that are easy to understand. It would make all the difference in the world. I mean how is a customer supposed to know the difference between a bolt and a rattler. One of my pet peeves is when a restaurant or a company will name themselves something that has nothing to do with what they sell. Don't name your company t-bob's turnarounds and end up selling hot dogs😂. I guess my point is if I have to Google the name of your product to figure out what it is then the marketing guy failed🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

It would be nice but it’s totally unrealistic since the resale value is dropping and dealers have a whole lot of overheard to cover. Also, as a premier dealer we offer support on any optic we sell, so we have to be able to afford to keep high quality trained customer service people on hand.
