Hi! Welcome to Blood Talks!
Once you know the donor requirement for whole blood collection, knowing apheresis requirement is not much different. There are some specific requirements that are added on for apheresis, but that should not be something to discourage anyone from learning about it or becoming a donor. It is always good to give especially this donation is an equal to a life that can be save. I never wish this for anyone, but you will never know. You do not know when you or your love ones would need blood, but when you do we are here for you.

Welcome to Blood Talks Fam. Blood Talks offers you a peek into how clinical laboratory scientists (CLS) or medical laboratory technologists (MLT) work in a hospital. CLS/MLT hold an important role in the healthcare system, but unfortunately, many people do not know that they even exist, simply because most of CLS/MLT work is done behind the scenes. In this channel, you can find explanations from a clinical laboratory point of view. I hope you enjoy and learn something you did not know before.

How can I transport 1 unit of platelet in 2-3 hours distance?

Hi Rafi UI During transport (short or long), platelets are being kept at room temperature (22-24C) and the motion during transportation keeps the platelets agitated which helps promote gas exchange. It is true that if the conditions during transport are not well regulated, the platelets may die before reaching the destination. We perform platelet swirling test to assess platelet condition.

please answer this question...

It is hard to give a straight answer because granulocyte donation is not established as a routine donation. It is the last resource for patients. 1) Can you please confirm the frequency of Granulocyte Donation..? Confirming the frequency is hard to do since it is on a case-by-case basis because there are many factors involved. The donation center will work with the local BB. There is no regular donation for granulocyte products because of the shot expedition date. These donations are just by special order as the products only last 24 hours post-collection. In a typical series, we do 3-5 collections. The donor also has to meet donor eligibility just like other blood products. 2) What should be the time between the two consecutive Granulocyte Donations..? This is a case by case, and the donation center will work with the local BB. The patient's doctor is also involved because it depends on the patient's blood test post-transfusion. 3) After Granulocyte Donation, how much time should wait for a donor for Platlets Donation..? This is at the discretion of the medical director of that donor center. It is usually based on AABB guidelines. I hope this helps. If you have more information, please share we can all learn. Thank you.
