EP. 431 - Tristan da Silva - Orlando Magic Podcast 

Forget about free agency because the Magic need to think about their future core players: Banchero, Wagner and Suggs, and reserve money to resign them long term. Don't chase aging and declining vets who are well on the backside of their career, and then allow that to compromise locking up the core. The Magic are in win-now mode, but they have three prospects that they need to develop in order to get over the hump: Anthony Black, Tristan Da Silva and Jett Howard. It's probably necessary to give Da Silva's the prior minutes for Joe Ingles. I really wish the Magic would obtain a very physical Center to complement the PF/C players they already have.

At this point in time “look what Boston and New York are doing” is almost as bad of an argument to make moves as “we need to keep Paolo happy”

Luke low key, you are ticking me off my brother. Why do you have to be such a pesimist, i know this is just how you are. But how can you guys not see that Da silva is great piece for us. I too wanted Dalton, but when it came down to McCain, Dalton, and Tristan, i knew we were good. We are going to address guards through trades or free agency. Jett and him will both get minutes. Jett will get minutes at the 2. Tristan will back up Franz and some for Paolo. Ingles will Not be getting his option picked up and gary is going to move on. Chuma will be done aswell. To your point, we have only seen weltman bringing life back from the dead. Life is good Luke!

Thinking that Tristan is an immediate contributor, maybe competing for time with Jett, I would think Paul George makes more sense than Klay, isn't him a better playmaker?

Tristan was one of my guys, so I'm very excited that we added him. That being said I would've loved any of the 3 guys drafted right ahead of us by the Heat, Sixers, Lakers, too. Especially those 3 teams. The Lakers falling ass backwards into Knecht was especially annoying, but I do wish the best for J.J. Reddick, so I can at least rationalize it that way. Maybe the Magic legit would've taken Tristan even if Knecht was there, he just checks so many boxes that they look for (Knecht doesn't check the defense box, maybe not the positional versatility box either).

I don't see a battle of Tristan and Jett,I see Tristen getting minutes as Franz backup at the 3 and at the 4 when JI is hurt ,I think Jett gets minutes as the backup 2 to who ever we go sign to start.We move on from Joe,Fultz and Gary IMO.

What are we gonna do with him? Boy, that was said like we ready to take the eastern conference. Weltman said in the presser we haven't done anything, we haven't arrived, so that needs to be the mentality

AB, Suggs, Franz, Paolo, Dell Cole, Da Silva, Jett, Mo, JI This is the rotation now Jett is really battling Cole if we get a PG. Da Silva allows us to swap out of Franz and or Paolo without having to play JI for one of them and still be relatively big and or run a bigger lineup with him and Suggs at the guard positions or small with Paolo at the 5 against smaller teams

My first thought with Da Silva was that's the end of Chuma. He's also a great fill via "play by committee" if Franz has struggles with his shooting in games... Next man up depth

Mikal Bridges was a heartbreaker to the Knicks for me. I'll take DaAaron Fox who might be available now over Malik Monk..js Jalen Duran is also on my wishlist this off-season to make a move on

Free agency should be used to fill needs. Not the draft. Draft should always be best player available, with limited exceptions. Most rookies need years to develop, and you need guys at the end of the bench to fill out the roster. Players get traded and players leave every year. Injuries happen often too. Accumulate talent and worry about having too much talent at one position later.

I’m not impressed with this pick. I’m tired of swinging and missing on talent. We did it with Mo Bamba, Chuma, AB at 6 last year and now this guy.

Y’all just sold me on Corey Kispert … 25 years old and plays the right way… could start at shooting guard easily. Klay is a 35 year old cry baby… he wins four championships with the warriors and deletes their photos on Instagram where is the loyalty? I don’t need his old injured ass getting emotional and flashing his 4 rings like he’s still that guy

This is a perfect pick from the Magic. Da Silva plays a lot like Franz. He’s high IQ, a connective piece who can play multiple spots and actually can play for the Magic. A lot of the players that they could’ve taken wouldn’t have seen the floor at all. This is similar to Jaime Jaquez pick from Miami last year. He isn’t going to cost us when he’s on the floor so Mose can trust throwing him out there. Magic didn’t need a guy who can’t step in immediately which most dudes they drafted prob woulda fallen into. A- pick imo.

Why are you so focused on what free agents would make us a better regular season team?

IH is much better at being a C we need than WCJ imo, and he tips the ball more to his team and hustles more that don't show up in the box score, I don't need our C to hit 3's bc we're focusing too much on spacing bc not every position needs to hit a 3, Gafford and Lively are great C in the league who don't shoot at all but do more things they need to for their position than more than half the league who plays the C who are good at hitting the 3 except for Embiid and Jokic, rebounding and defense for how this team is built is more important than spacing and hitting the 3 imo

Love that he can get to the open spot and cut to the basket. Reminds me so much of Franz. As to his age I believe that we are done with 18, 19 yr old projects. This young man is ready. Odd man out will be Caleb unless Jett is still not ready.

We need to understand we're still years away until contention, we need to continue to do what we've been doing to get there, off-season is still getting started, let's see what happens in the next couple of days

As a day1 Magic fan this is all I got to say. The Magic better bring in another star player to help Banchero and Franz to compete with Boston or the Knick. If the Magic want to develop all these young players then run it back not winning anything I don’t blame Franz or Banchero if they leave
