Incredible kit, great to see it in it's unbuilt state, thanks for taking us through it. About 6 months ago I was given the 1/12 Martini 935 version from the 1980s by a friend in Ireland. His late uncle had built it for him but it had been in his loft for years and was pretty beat up and he felt bad about it. It was complete so I fixed it up and it now has pride of place on my shelf. It's pretty patinated but had been very well built up so I left it as was in homage to the builder. As a boy in the 1980s I could only have dreamt of such an amazing model.
Just got the very same model kit off of ebay. You are right for the longest time the venders on ebay wanted top dollar for a used kit. But man Tamiya dropped a bomb on those guy's. I am glad I waited.
You got one. Yay. It was always moulded in white as originally you got a choice of making the orange Jaegermeister or Jade Green Vaillant car with decals for both. The PE and seat belts are new and the instructions are a complete reprint. And just you wait till you get the translucent parts out - they even feel different. It is a magnificent kit and was the last of the 1/12 Tamiya I built. Would love to get the new release, it's a true holy grail kit.
I built the 1/12th scale 935 kit as a teenager in the 1970's. It was a highlight of my modeling life. I recently bought the 934 that you have and I can't wait to see what you do with it.
I thought bonnets were worn on your head and boots were worn on your feet... I can't picture a car wearing a Bonnet And Boots 🤔 LOL.. I'm like you And really don't have much room for my 1/25th scales but you have me sold I'm going to have to get this kit !
I built this car back in the late 70's when I was a teenager. What a great kit! I also had the radio control car Tamiya put out that used the exact same body. I remember swapping the treaded tires that came with the kit with the slicks that came on the RC car to make the RC car look better. This and the Tamiya Harley sidecar bike, 1/6 scale I think, were the peak of my model building experiences. Tamiya was king back then.....are they still?
Nice buy. The first RC car from Tamiya - Kit # 58001 Porsche 934 Turbo RSR - was developed from this 1:12th plastic kit , and many parts were used for the RC car kit which was released in December 1976.
I bought this kit in 1990 for $75.00 and it's on a shelf in my bedroom right now. Painted it Porsche Guards Red. Only decals are the Porsche crest on the front hood, electric cut-off switch decals by the left wiper blade and the ones in the rear of the engine bay. The parts on the tree which has the fuel cell are done that way to replicate fiberglass which was used on the real 934's. I still have the box,instructions and decals I added a lot of extra details on my build. I only build models of Porsche 911's and 356's. I also have the 1/12 Tamiya 935 and paid $75.00 for that one and that one is super detailed down to correct colored thread for the wiring. I worked at a Porsche Audi dealership in the 70's as a mechanic.
That parting line on the roof is supposed to be there.Check references. Santa put this under the tree,cause I was a good guy. Building underway now,just finished engine,very nice when completed. Also need to get some braided line for gas and oil lines? Look on the inside roof and it shows original year made.(1976)! It’s a great build so far,you’ll love love ❤️ love it!
My Dad was on a business trip to Japan back in the 80s and picked up this kit for me. It was the last kit I built before i graduated highschool. Unfortunately it got destroyed in the Northridge earthquake that occurred in california.
just finished one, I turn it into a 934-5 using spare parts from a 935. Love the kit. Im want another one. You can still find them for a good price. My next one is the Martini 935.
Thanks for the unboxing I really want this kit. Is it true that it has a functioning (not sure if it is the proper word) steering wheel? Do you know the parts count? I recently won some money and thought I'd spend it all on some more expensive model kits that I would otherwise not buy. I have already bought the Italeri 1/12 Fiat 500 F but I cannot decide if I should buy this Porsche or the Heller 1/8 Citroen 15 CV.
Tamiya made 2 of these kits in the 80's the Jagermeister 934 and the later Martini 935 Porsche (i have the Martini 935) and i just bought the 934. fun times ahead!

This is the third time tamiya have re-released this kit. This latest one is almost identical to the 2009 issue apart from the tyres which were treaded in 2009. You'll love every minute of it 👍👊
I started building kit models in 1980, 81, 83s. Being a rich kid, I had big house and big room so I had ample space for my models and dioramas, as I can buy models as long as I like. BUT back in 1980s, I didnt have youtube, let alone modeling videos like this. So my finished models were painted very basic, no weathering, no airbrush, just plain colors as instructed. Now, in 2020s youtube and videos like these abounds, but my eyes getting presbiopic, my hands are shaky, and I have not got bigger house anymore. Oh well, lucky you I guess.

I have a Revell Jager Porsche that is molded in orange. Fortunately, I'm going to build it as such. Oh, I have a Tamiya 1/35 Zero kit that was boxed pretty much the same and looks to be a fun build.
Looks like one cool model. I'm sure you will have a blast building it. Be sure to post on facebook group the progress and it would be nice to see a youtube video of some parts of the build.

Very cool un-boxing video. Like you I always wanted one but wasn't sure what you were really getting for that amount of money. That detail is nuts! But now can you show us the difference between 1/12 & 1/24?
I lusted after the 1/12 Martini 935 when it first came out and was being reviewed in the mag's at that time, late seventys?. So when it was reissued with photo etch about ten years ago for £80 I pounced. It's in the loft with many others inspected but unstarted and fetching silly money on Ebay!. When I retire I'll either biuld it or the proceeds might feed me for a month.
I've seen the real car that this is modeled after. There's a short clip of it from a video I uploaded on my channel. This car was part of a private Porsche collection. I'm 99% sure that the car in my video is this car. It didn't have the decals on it because it was restored. The car was absolutely stunning!
Like you, I don't have room for the larger scale models. I own a 69 Camaro Z/28 so I had to get the monogram 12th scale......but damn ! I feel that I need to have this Porsche ! LOL Great video sir ! 🍻

I know what u mean. I got this kit when first released in 70s, and again now. I'm gonna glue the steering. Plastic rack and pinion setup is way too fragile.

Since then I have built four models with this one languishing on the shelf. I know life happens and all but do you ever plan on getting back to this or do I just need to unsubscribe and move on?
