Wow! Jose’ Feliciano playing Jimis “Purple Haze” was totally unexpected, all right indeed! His take on “Susie Q” written by Dale Hawkins was cool too. Linda singing “You’re No Good” was fantastic, great band, what a voice, she’s absolutely gorgeous. This song helped get me through my 1st major heartbreak @ age 21, years away from 1973. He was mentally/emotionally abusive, I’d sing it with “him” in mind so cathartic haha, thanks Lovely Linda. I miss her and am sorry to hear of her health struggles now. ❤️ Great segment here! ❤

Wow...another fantastic, eclectic episode of Midnight Special. The amazing Jose Feliciano totally rocks out on Purple Haze...such as versatile and talented artist and entertainer! And Sha Na Na...Their TV series presented them as a kind of lowbrow musical comedy act, but you can see here that they were accomplished and impeccable performers, with very polished vocals and choreography. Clearly they worked very hard on their act. But for me the hidden gem in this episode is Freshflavor with Richie Havens. Such sweet harmonies and soulful accompaniment. I have many Richie Havens solo albums, and I've seen him in concert several times, but I've never seen him in a group setting before. Did Freshflavor ever release any albums? Well done, Midnight Special!

Clarence Carter still around today. Maybe not performing as much, but somewhere his voice is being heard. That intro of Purple Haze by Jose was mind blowing. Interesting fact about guiarist Vinny Taylors name. His real name was Christopher Hempstead Donald. Donald adopted the name Vinny Taylor which at one time was used by a prison fugitive named Elmer Solly (1945-2007). Sadly Donald died within 4 months of this performance of a drug overdose at age 25.

@@Royale_with_Cheeze Feleena tells the tale of the dancing girl, how she ended up in El Paso, Born in a desert shack in New Mexico during a thunderstorm, Feleena runs away from home at 17, living off her charms for a year in Santa Fe, New Mexico, before moving to the brighter lights of El Paso to become a paid dancer. After another year, the narrator of "El Paso" arrives, the first man she did not have contempt for. He spends six weeks romancing her and then, in a retelling of the key moment in the original song, beset by "insane jealousy", he shoots another man with whom she was flirting. Her lover's return to El Paso comes only a day after his flight (the original song suggests a longer time frame before his return) and as she goes to run to him, the cowboy motions to her to stay out of the line of fire and is shot; immediately after his dying kiss, Feleena shoots herself with his gun. Their ghosts are heard to this day in the wind blowing around El Paso: "It's only the young cowboy showing Feleena the town".

@@Royale_with_Cheeze the third song, "El Paso City", in which the present-day singer is a passenger on a flight over El Paso, which reminds him of a song he had heard "long ago", proceeding to summarize the original "El Paso" story. "I don't recall who sang the song," he sings, but he feels a supernatural connection to the story: "Could it be that I could be the cowboy in this mystery...," he asks, suggesting a past life.

Not Jim Gordon on drums. Someone else writes it's Ritchie Hayward from Little Feat...

@53:00 Anyone know the title of the sad, poignant love song that Roger McGuinn is playing? My name’s Mari Ann & I think he sings “Mary” in the lyrics. Curious as I thought I’d heard most of the songs with the name in them. I like this song and 1st time seeing Roger perform, have heard of him/the Byrds band. He has beautiful long hair here. Thank you!

Sweet Mary. If you click the description to expand it he lists all the titles and has time stamps. Pretty cool

@@djavidianmx1832 Thank you! Well I’ll be darned, haha, I feel like the village idiot now. I assume the song titles & time stamps have “always” been used? That’s a great feature.

Who are playing with Richie Havens as Fresh Flavor? The girl on the keyboard looks familiar.

EVERY GIRL IN THIS LINEUP started learning piano at around 4yo, that is why they are so good at performance and arranging. Singer has played piano in at least 2 songs live, gtr player on right around 6 or 7. one clip in studio live streaming she both gtr and keys at the same time. one hand pressing chords, the other a complex harmony with other gtr player. Miyako is a genius on both instruments, and oh yeah, composer of nearly all the music, and does the most harmonies vocally too. What the hell planet did she come from?
