Ep. 5: KISS vs Hotter Than Hell Song For Song Album Battle (Strutter, Deuce, Parasite, Cold Gin) 

Good chat. But, Mike, you're nuts! I love Cold Gin. I could listen to it every day! And, if it was a desert island scenario, I'd pick the debut, despite the logic of a track-by-track comparison. To me Strutter, Deuce, Cold Gin, Firehouse, and Black Diamond are the musical foundations of the band.

I'm agreeing with Mike on this review & think overall the HTH is my favorite of the 2 album's.

Here are my rankings: Strutter-8 (Love the Donnas cover) Got To Choose- 7.5 N.T.L.- 7 Strange Ways- 6.75- Note--Also love the Megadeth cover.... Firehouse- 7.5 Goin' Blind- 6.5 Cold Gin- 8.5 Hotter Than Hell- 10-----Probably higher rating than most...love the re-recording of this on Kiss Klassics too Let Me Know- 6 Let Me Go...- 8.5- Love the extended jams and guitar parts live, but this is a studio rating. Kissin' Time- 6 Parasite- 9----What a riff! Deuce- 10 All The Way- 6 Love Theme- 3 Watchin' You- 9--Great riff---has grown on me more over the years 100,000- 6 Mainline- 7 Black Diamond Coming Home- 9 - One of many Paul 'deep tracks' that I really have liked over the years... Way back I used to wonder which of the songs that DIDN'T make Alive that they ever played live...

I never heard of your podcast before, this episode showed up in my feed. But I clicked on it and really enjoyed listening to the both of you go through the songs. You guys seem cool, upbeat, and I hope you keep doing more videos like this. Critiquing Kiss albums, videos, tours etc. You're fun to listen to. I'm the author of the Kiss book "Kiss My Black Ass!" In my book I also go through each Kiss song and rate them, give my opinions etc. So i enjoy listening to other Kiss fans talk about Kiss songs and albums and hearing their perspectives. When Vincent said that "Kissin' Time" sounded like it's from the HTH sessions, I never noticed that until he brought it up? I don't know if it's true but good call. Keep it up guys!

I love "Love Theme From Kiss"

Both albums are really great. If the production wasn’t so bad on Hotter Than Hell, I think more people might like it more. I think the MTV Unplugged showed how great those songs are!!! There’s also nostalgia you’re possibly fighting for the 1st album. I think your guys ranking of the albums shows both opinions of those albums. If the production was as good on the first album, I’d pick Hotter Than Hell, but as it is I’m going with the 1st album. It’s a very tough choice!!!

Both great. Mix on the first isn’t as bad as people say it is, it’s fine.

If I really had to pick I would take HTH but I'd prefer to have both!

I give the debut album a slight edge, although HTH was a bit heavier and edgier
