6 years ago, I auditioned for The Voice, which is my first time auditioning for a TV show and any professional production. Other than memorize, and practice 5 different songs for my audition, I made sure that I prepared myself emotionally and psychologically, because I get a feeling that I will be rejected by whoever casting director of the show (sadly, my audition group and I didn’t make it past the first round of the audition. But Hey! It’s all good!). When I got rejected from the casting director, I’m proud of myself that I didn’t cry, take it personally, think I suck at singing…. I was very proud of myself that I had the time of my life at my audition, I conquered my past stage fright and performance anxiety by doing the best I can to sing Sam Smith’s Lay Me Down. Except for my nervous shaky voice at first, I did a great job singing the song with confidence. The director even looked up at me from behind her laptop, and smiled at me during my performance. Will go for The Voice again? Hell yeah! But not now.

This needs to be the official Guide for all of us artists!!! Rejection truly is so not easy for us to deal with. We have those feelings of people saying "You would be great for that role" but then you don't get it. Seriously are so humble and open to share those thoughts that we as artists all continue to feel. My mom (who passed away 3 years ago) always would say everything happens for a reason. Sometimes at the end of the day, we as artists should make our own work.... we get to be our own CEO. Props to Lin Manuel Miranda who was able to write and star in his own works!!

Thank you Marcel. This business is so tough. But it’s manageable. At the end of the day, we are only human. And if we can remember that, and hold each other up, we will be okay. Thank you for watching and sharing.

It's wonderful that you share these deeply personal, even painful, experiences. It really...does...help us. Thank you :) It just goes to show you that in this business you really have to do your best to not take things personally...or you'll die! haha! (well, you'll die anyway but you know what i mean ;)
