That was such fun! Tash, I hold my needles exactly the same way you do, the only difference is I wind the yard around my pinky once, it was interesting to see someone holding needles like me. Nice to see you two together, I loved all the knits and all the purchases. Wishing both the hat recipients a smooth treatment journey and a full recovery. Enjoy the tennis, thanks for sharing, Karen 🥰

Thanks so much Karen. That is so funny. I don know many people who hold the needles the same way either. i used to wind the yarn around my pinkie first as well but i ended up dropping that part when i realised it didnt make a difference to my tension. Readjusting has been much quicker which is always nice. :)

Hi Girls Your projects and yarn are beautiful. I seem to have the same interest in patterns and yarn you pick. I love the Knitting for Olive yarn and I love the price. I am making the Barbor as well and found putting markers after every 15 stitches for the pattern makes it nice. I look forward to the blocking with silk because I bought the putty color for the top and I am doing it in medium just because I am 68 and don't want it to be too tight for my body. Hope I am correct . Love your podcast and thoughtfulness in your knitting. We knitters feel this is the ultimate gift of love and care and it is.

What a great episode with you both! I’ve had my eye on the Secret Garden sweater for ages Bec and I love your sunset fade design! Thanks for explaining the yarn management. 😱 It will be totally worth it! My friend bought me some ‘posh’ wool from her op shop- 6 balls of Rowan Kid Classic for $2 a ball - she had no idea how much of a bargain that was! Love your dotted rays Tash, but all those stitches puts me off a bit. Happy knitting to you both! 😃🧶
@mostlyknitting
@mostlyknitting 7 месяцев назад
Thanks so much Susie - yeah, with Dotted Rays, it is probably a bit like Half and Half. You just keep working on it and it is done. I could never knit something like that to a deadline. I love your description of "posh" yarn. Hope you find something nice to knit to make with it. :)

Also. Could you knit the Oslo hat reverse? So then when the mohair ends, it's where you can make it work easier than the top? For the gift
@mostlyknitting
@mostlyknitting 7 месяцев назад
You could do that, or if you are sensitive to mohair, you could just not hold the mohair for the part of the hat that is against the skin. That would also save on yarn…

Hi, Tash! The moment I saw your Cumulus Tee I knew I had to have one. I have a couple questions about it. First, I’ve never knitted with silk before and now that I have some in hand, I see that it has very little stretch and it reminds me very much of embroidery floss. Do you have any tips for knitting with it? I think splitting stitches will be something I will need to work to avoid. Also, what cast on did you use? When a pattern doesn’t call for a specific one, I usually use the German twisted, but for this, I wonder if an Icord cast on wouldn’t be better. Thanks in advance for any guidance! 😃
@mostlyknitting
@mostlyknitting 5 месяцев назад
Hi Mary. The main thing i would say with silk is to make a large swatch and measure it before and after blocking. My swatches of 6 x 4" were too small and my gauge stretched out a lot in the garment compared to the swatch. I think i just did a long tail cast on for this top. In this case, i dont think the cast on mattered very much. Certainly not an icord cast on as you are doing an applied icord after. Hope that helps. :)
@pammoriarty5176
@pammoriarty5176 7 месяцев назад
Another wonderful episode. Your hats always look fabulous? My hats, stretch out after blocking. What is your secret?
@mostlyknitting
@mostlyknitting 7 месяцев назад
Thanks Pam. I usually block them before I am finished in case they stretch in blocking and then I dont have to knit as much as i think i do and they get too big or long. I will do a blocking video on the Musselburgh hat i am working on now very soon. Hopefully that will help. :)

Do you like the Oslo with mohair better than the basic pattern?
@mostlyknitting
@mostlyknitting 7 месяцев назад
They really are the same pattern. Just different stitch counts for different sizes. If i was just buying one, i would buy the one with mohair as it suggests a few different sizes. But I have noticed that most people just modify the stitch count for their own gauge and size. In terms of wearing - I like them both equally, as long as the mohair isn’t scratchy. :)
