We get an opportunity to take an early look at another great kit coming out from Tamiya. The Nissan 240ZG. Then we compare it to the Hasegawa version. If this is a look at what the future holds for Tamiya model cars. Things are going to get really good.
Enjoy,
L.C.

That chrome window trim is a game changer for me! Hope it becomes common!

I saw this kit at the LHS. I passed it I up for $67 a week ago. After finding out it comes with an engine, purchased it today. I unboxed it at home. The detail level is superb. The engraving on the engine/transmission is simply gorgeous! All you modelers who are into the Nissan Z cars, you NEED to get one

I always preferred the RX-7 to the 280z, but now you are making me want this Tamiya 240z. I hope this pushes Hasegawa to produce better car kits. I am shocked how much better and more detailed the armor and airplane kits are compared to car models of every brand. There is tremendous room for improvement in this segment.

Luca off topic but I just joined salvinos jr today and watching the videos about them with your interviews really helped me with my decision

For those with bare metal foil problems, the chrome trim is a winner for sure. Thanks for sharing the video. Terry 👍🙂

As a former1973 240Z owner (and modeller!), i hope Tamiya will make a Z.432 version. They already have the motor from their Hakasuka kit and all the wheels on the Z.432 were already on some other Tamiya kits. I really like the Tamiya kit, but i wish it would have come with the 8-spoke Watanabe wheels instead of the standard steel wheels with hubcaps. When i get my kit , I'm going to pull the Watanabe's off one of my Hakasuka kits and call it a day.

Same here! I have a bunch of Aoshima and Fujimi wheel and tire sets for my Japanese car kits. I 432 would definitely geta set of 'Tanabes!

Back in the early 90's I owned a '73 240Z ('73 was my birth year too, LOL!), fun little cars, surprised several cars that should have ran circles around it (of course, mine wasn't stock 😉). Great comparison video, my friend (and thank you for the fond memories), happy weekend! 😁✌

I mentioned to Andy that I had the Hasagawa kit as well and wondered the difference with the updated Tamiya kit. Thanks for doing exactly what I was thinking! Just proves we got more purchases coming in the near future..... Also hope the separate window trim becomes a thing. Really excited to see the Tamiya release. I do hope Tamiya does a US 240Z kit as well. I suspect I’ll keep my Hasagawa and build it as a crazy JDM custom build.

Watched Andy’s review and you can see how much better this kit is then the older one. Thanks.

Thanks for doing this comparison! I have quite a few 240Zs from Hasegawa and they make a nice and fairly quick build. But I am looking forward to that Tamiya kit and all variants they will probably produce of that one: US-style short nose, African Safari rally winner. Maybe they will even rerelease their 1/12th scale kit of that car in both civilian and rally version. Btw: The kit of the Porsche 917 is made by Fujimi, not Hasegawa. That one would be another model I would love to see Tamiya produce.

Dear Colin Tamiya, I find it very interesting how suddenly everyone is Ga Ga over this new Tamiya 240Z kit and you're a fan. Here is some Fantastic News for you. Back in the late 70s Tamiya released a super detailed Datsun 240Z in 1/12 scale and you can still find them on ebay. I built this kit back in 1986 and the detail is simply amazing. If I remember correctly it came with the option parts and decals to make the African rally-winning car. So get on it!!! Go to ebay and type in "Tamiya 1/12 Datsun 240ZG model kit". Sure they're a bit expensive but worth every penny. Good Luck.

More good news..! I just checked out the older 1/12 240Z kits available on eBay, and if you click on the one with the beat-up box it shows what's inside. And if you look carefully it has the small option parts box to make the African rally version. You should do a build and put it on RU-vid.

The JDM car name is "Fairlady Z", the internal chassis/car designation for the 1st Gen cars was S30. The numerical designation is an engine size. The 240Z was powered by a 2.4L inline 6, which grew to 2.6 and then 2.8L. That same numerical engine liter system carried over through all of the Z cars up to the current 370Z. Technically speaking the "G-Nose" was available OTC at Datsun dealerships to meet homologation requirements for Gr. 4 racing (the BRE Z cars in SCCA for example).

Wow! I'm blown away that you don't remember Tamiya released a 240Z in the late 70s but in 1/12 scale. How do I know this, cause I bought it at a swap meet in 1983, along with the 1/6 Honda 750 motorcycle Daytona racer, just south of San Francisco. That same kit now sells for $300 ~ $600 on ebay, same thing with the Honda race motorcycle. Go to ebay and check it out. Just type in "Tamiya 1/12 Datsun 240ZG model kit" and BINGO! The detail on this older 1/12 scale 240Z is amazing to say the least. Sure its a bit expensive but worth every penny. If I remember correctly it comes with option parts and decals to make the African rally winning car version.

A 1/16th model of a 240z has nothing to do about these kits. Why would I mention it?

I just took a look at both kits at a store, and yes Tamiya is superior in detail, but... It's a $55 vs $25 model.

The Tamiya one certainly looks like the better kit. Will be interesting to see the price difference. Also does anyone here know the difference between the Nissan 240ZG and Tamiya's Datsun 240GZ 1/12 (apart from the scale)? I have an idea to display them together if they are the same car.

Great comparison Luka,last year I won a Fujimi Nissan Fairlady 240ZG kit on Ebay for $10,junk kit that was missing a few parts like the bumbers,interior door panels,mirrors,tyres,etc.,otherwise around 90 odd percent there though,it has a very well detailed engine but I had to cut the hood/bonnet out of the body,no radiator hoses & has a radiator but no radiator panel?,it came with the instructions but no box,be interesrting to know what year the kit dates from?,I'm guessing the 90's maybe?,cheers

Having built one of the Hasegawa 240Z kits, namely the Safari Rally car, I'm sure their 240ZG was just as good, but this new Tamiya one is very impressive, especially with the full engine and the other touches like the chrome trim around the windows etc. I'm a big fan of Nissan's Z cars so I'm going to have to see about adding this to my stash - haven't got the space, skill or patience for the 12th scale one!

Gee, what’s the better kit, a curbside Hasegawa from 2005 or the 2021 Tamiya (that you can preorder now) with an engine? The $20.00 kit or the $60.00 kit? 🙄
@paintnamer6403
@paintnamer6403 3 года назад
Why don't the kits say Datsun? That's what they were in the '70s. Does the hood emblem say Datsun? Is it a copyright thing? The Tamiya is better for sure, thanks for the video.

Somebody at Hasegawa is going to get fired. It’s funny I was at my local hobby store today and I saw the hasagawa kit on the shelf and didn’t even realize that they also had this model out after seeing Andy’s preview the other day.
