This week we have coaxed our dogs into a single wheel bike trailer - the Burley Coho XC. Come join us as we show you the progress they have made in being towed behind our bikes. Hungarian Vizsla, English pointer and German shorthaired pointer - will they take to riding in a single wheel trailer.
We are undertaking this so that when we are out and about in our motorhome we can go further and do more exploring with the doggies.
For HD quality hit those three buttons and upgrade to at least 1080.

This trailer is specifically not to be used to put pets in per Burley the manufacturer. Instructions tell you not to put a dog in it.

Glad it was informative- we have used it for the last year and half but have decided now to get another burley tail wagon and add suspension and not have the coho - the main reason is our Vizsla gets bored quite easily and after 20-30 minutes she starts to move side to side which “wags” the back end of a bike and it is quite disconcerting if you are near traffic. It’s such a shame as we really love the trailer but think the dog is too big and easily distracted

Thanks guys for this video. I just purchased one of those Coho XC to bring Tao my border colley in my next trip from Valence in France to Milan in Italy. I thought before riding with him to use the trailer as his spare bed to get used to it. Your dogs are beautiful by the way.

hey how did the trip go with the trailer? i am looking at this as an option versus getting the covered two wheel trailers. I want to be able to still do some light trails...

Great video! I have been using a regular trailer covered. I guess the only issue with open trailer would be the dog might get some dirt on his eyes from the rear tire. As I travelled with my dog, I noticed on a rainy day or dirt road, he had to deal with splash/dirt from rear tire unless he faces backward. Other than that, the single wheel trailer can be a lot more safer on corners! Thank you for the video!

Thank you. We got her some doggles to protect her eyes and she didn’t mind wearing them at all. We all loved if for a year or so and better for narrower trails. However, We now use the burley tail wagon with added suspension for both dogs as I had an accident and no longer felt safe enough to manage the single wheel trailer. Great for smaller dogs but under 18kg but a bit more of a handful for 20+kg dogs I decided following non bike related accident and injury. Added suspension for the trailer is a must for us Enjoy biking with your dog

I've just bought one the instructions say not a pet carrier, pretty sure the makers have a good reason for saying this,but if it works for you and your pouch ,then good for you.

You are correct the coho is made for cargo and not pets. As we mentioned in the video we were trying to see if it would work for us and provide more flexible solution for taking our dogs with us on some trails. Our English pointer did not like it at all and was too big so we then chose the burley tail wagon but added suspension so that it would not flip over on trails and hurt the dog. Our Vizsla managed a year or so fairly happily in the trailer but due to myself sustaining an injury we changed from the coho to another tail wagon that we have added suspension to. It’s not ideal as the tail wagon trailer is wide whereas the coho is narrower and follows the bike better. Definitely would not even think about a large dog in the coho nor nervous dogs. Unfortunately there aren’t many options for bike trailers out there in the market place

This DOES NOT work with a road bike. The dog in the back shifts its weight left and right a lot. (My lab is 60 lbs). This left to right force applies rotational force into the rear axel of bike. I could feel the entire bike flexing from rear axel into my handlebars. In order for this to work (over long distances) the bike frame needs to be very strong.

Did you put something on the coho floor for grip for the dogs? I'm looking at anti slip grip tape.
@Doggonemotorhomeadventures
@Doggonemotorhomeadventures Год назад
Hi. Thank you for watching. We only put padding down on the floor which was not necessarily anti slip - good idea though. We have since changed to two burley tail wagons with added suspension as our Vizsla easily gets bored and excited after about 20 mins in the trailer and starts to bounce around which then ‘wags the bike’ and due to injuries we felt it better to have the greater stability of 2 wheel trailer. Downside is we obviously cannot do some trails as the trailers are too wide. Basically a dog that is calmer and has regular outings would be better suited to the coho. Hope you find the right trailer for you and your dog

@@Doggonemotorhomeadventures just received coho. My old girl is a bit anxious.. So I'll have my work cut out. Padding sounds good...but I'm wary of rain...I'll keep my eyes open for suitable foam too. The skewer arrives soon I hope...it seems the panier rack mounting on the bike might get in the way...time will tell....maybe some "mods" might fix this situation. Was looking at a 2 wheel, with suspension....but...single track capability was alluring... Might post video with Diva at some stage...she ate her meal in it tonight...

The area around the shock needs a padded cover. Protect their bums.
@Doggonemotorhomeadventures
@Doggonemotorhomeadventures 2 года назад
She has goggles and there is padding in the trailer - this was really to see if they would go in the trailer. The EP was having none of it and she is definitely too big and heavy. The Viz tolerates it for around 20 mins and no longer so we are now debating whether to not use it now as when she Greta bored she moves around a lot which makes the whole system unviable unfortunately

@@rcolli4781 I am only fairly small but can definitely feel the 20kg dog being towed behind the single wheel when she goes from one side to the other as it does alter the balance of the bike and handling but if you are aware and expecting it it is not too bad. Does it make the bike shimmy?
@Doggonemotorhomeadventures
@Doggonemotorhomeadventures 2 года назад
The single wheel trailer does get pushed side to side if the dog moves from One side to the other - you have to be prepared for it at all times The dog trailer burley tail wagon that we have added suspension to is really stable
@snowfalleon7629
@snowfalleon7629 2 года назад
@@Doggonemotorhomeadventures that's good to know but I was asking if the bike wiggles around (frame flex) side to side. Someone online said it gave their bike a front end shimmy which sounds bad. I don't know anybody who has a trailer but they sound good.
@Doggonemotorhomeadventures
@Doggonemotorhomeadventures 2 года назад
@@snowfalleon7629 our bike frame doesn’t flex but I think they are referring to the shimmy as being correcting the bike if the dog goes from side to side. You have to take a different riding style and adjust your weight rather than responding with the handlebars. Also when you are going around corners you steer rather than lean - it takes a bit of practice to adjust riding style to suit

@Doggonemotorhomeadventures
@Doggonemotorhomeadventures 3 года назад
We purchased a few weeks back but noticed that nobody at present in UK has stock. Looked at Europe but currently they aren’t shipping to uk due to Brexit - they have sold out since. Emailed Burley and they are saying they will be back in stock May or June this year. Our Vizsla is fine in the trailer but as yet we are not confident with our English Pointer- she is a nervous dog and moves around a bit in the trailer which means the rear of the bike feels unstable - will be doing update next week with our progress. Hope that helps

Bad idea to haul pets around by bike and not a great bike trailer overall. I don't suppose you could have borrowed a trailer to see if they even wanted to ride before buying one and throwing it on top of the pile of other unused worthless crap you continue to buy in a childish attempt to show off?
