Shooting fish underwater in Louisiana, finding Mil-Surp rifles in garbage cans at Sears and ultimately, becoming one of the most respected and most famous competition and world-record breaking shooters around, Jerry Miculek has had quite the interesting life. That's why it was our pleasure to host him on this special podcast where we not only attempted to scratch the surface of his life story, but also asked him what it is about that super-computer-of-a-brain of his that allows him to shoot so darn fast and how he actually goes about getting himself in the right mindset to be one of the best shooters in history. Whether you shoot competitively or not, this is one you absolutely don't want to miss.
As always, we want to hear your feedback! Let us know if there are any topics you'd like covered on the Vortex Nation podcast by asking us on any one of our social media platforms and using #VortexNationPodcast.

A lot of familiar faces here. I remember my visit to Vortex where I had the chance to meet most of you guys. Reuben showed me around and even took me to the range and showed me a little about 3 gun. It was a fantastic experience. You guys really have a special camaraderie as a company. You have changed the industry in more than one way. I enjoyed the podcast and hope you guys have a nice day. So what no one seemed to mention during this conversation was how Jerry got to the point where he just “watched”. It’s practice, constant repetition, if you’re prepared then you don’t have to try super hard to “make it happen”. If you’ve done it 10000 times, and visualized the course, then once you get on the line you can just watch it happen, bc it’s second nature at that point. He kinda explained it with the violin analogy, but yeah. Practice lol. No one mentioned how much he had to have practiced

Not letting your nerves get the best of your mechanics is a skill that's honed over much practice. Experience is key especially in combat skills both hand to hand and weapon to threat. Remaining calm during the incident then letting the nerves kick in after. Some of that is natural abilities but it can be honed with practice. There is a wealth or knowledge in Mr. Miculek.

Yup. the central nervous system runs through the entire body, not just the brain. So when you are fully trained up, the nerves in your body do the thinking. Just like with a musical instrument. I learned the guitar as a kid, then didn't play for over a decade, picked up a guitar, and started playing; i didn't know what I was playing, but my fingers did, they just played.

Yeah I've had this experience in sports. Particularly trying to hit a baseball at 85-95mph. If you think, it doesn't work, there's no time for that. You just watch yourself hit the ball, kinda can't explain it, but it's amazing. The human body is amazing, and it's why I am so surprised that as a society we are trying to limit these amazing skills. Self driving cars, ai everything etc. Just let us humans ascend to another level of aptitude, like we are genetically programmed to do.

I had this old pump bb gun that i used to try(operative word there) to shoot squirrels out of the trees in my backyard. It had no sights, so i got good at kentucky windage with it. I got really disgusted with it when I shot at a squirrel, watched the bb arc up and hit it in the chest and it just sat there and looked at me.
