I AM NUMBER ONE!!! That’s the motto that has taken Michael Scruggs’ former students and mentees to their next level of greatness. His passion for his students success has garnered him national attention from Good Morning America, CNN, CBS, Ellen DeGeneres, Channel One News and more. He has been recognized as 100 influential people of Memphis, Making Headline News Man of the Year, Outstanding Mentoring Hero, 40 under 40 Urban Professionals, ESPN Academy, and many more. In 2019, Michael was recently selected in the top 20 of the nation to participate in a “National Google documentary highlighting the achievements of Educators which has now been viewed over 21 million times and still remains a Google top educational ad.
At an early age, Michael was exposed to the dynamic preaching of renowned C.O.G.I.C. minister, Bishop G. E. Patterson. Nurtured under such powerful teachings, he soon realized his own calling to ministry. As he grew in both faith and intellect, he realized that some of his most enjoyable and enriching experiences were in the classroom.
Since his childhood, Michael has always found himself doing community service work in the
city of Memphis. Michael has mentored many youth and young adults, as well as provided thousands of dollars of supplies and extended countless hours of community service to children and families and recently started the “I AM NUMBER ONE” scholarship. For the past 16 years, he has organized a “Holiday Giveaway” that aids several shelters and nursing homes.
