Tracey and Allister Travels modifications to our Jayco All-Terrain. Installation of a DRS (Dust Reduction System) low cost self designed and made system. Thanks to suggestions from Peter Bickle. Note: The Seaflo 75mm Blower moves 122CFM which is approx 30% of the Carafan air flow.
EDIT: I've put in a switch now, so it doesn't run whilst on bitumen.

Let’s hear it for the algorithm. I started searching six months ago for information on dust reduction, and this video finally popped up on my feed.

Both vents are required by the fridge cooling system Cold air comes in the bottom and is drawn up through the cooling fins at the top By reducing the intake ( the bottom vent) the cooling efficiency is affected Simple fridge knowledge so by no means " not needed" Would have been a better location towards the front of the van as there's less dust above wheels
@PinkysTravelAdventures
@PinkysTravelAdventures 3 месяца назад
Thanks for the info! however, being a compressor fridge it doesn't need as much cooling/circulation as a 3 way. The air being forcefully sucked into the cavity behind the fridge is still available for the compressor cooling at the top vent.

Hi Alister Love your work. I was so happy to find your video as I have been looking for a simple solution as you have presented I have one question regarding our van has a small scupper over our bed which I’m not sure if I should open this device also when on dusty roads? Do you have an opinion in this regard. Again thanks for all your insight Cheers
@PinkysTravelAdventures
@PinkysTravelAdventures Год назад
If there is no filter behind the scupper vent, I'd most likely keep it closed. It depends if you would be getting clean air. But, if you pass someone on dirt road coming the other way, chances are you would scoop in a lot of dust.
@TimEdgerton-w5f
@TimEdgerton-w5f Год назад
Ive done the same but what i did was use a car air filter on intake side of the blower and used a cabin filter attaching aluminum gill to hold in place with wing nuts and bolts for easy replacement of filters also used marine grade stick on sponge seal
@PinkysTravelAdventures
@PinkysTravelAdventures Год назад
Yeh, like the idea. I will probably make a better filter later.

When I open the door with it going, I notice an increase in fan noise, proof to me that the fan is pressurizing the van when door closed. I'm yet to travel on dirt roads.
@shanek105
@shanek105 Год назад
I would have put the fan in the top vent, otherwise a good job.
@PinkysTravelAdventures
@PinkysTravelAdventures Год назад
There is not enough space in the top for a fan, that's where the fridge compressor is.
@shanekeith3139
@shanekeith3139 Год назад
@@PinkysTravelAdventures maybe you could have run the ducting to the top vent.
@PinkysTravelAdventures
@PinkysTravelAdventures Год назад
The ducting goes into the van. There is an air pathway from the top grill to the lower cavity, so if the filters in the bottom block, it can still suck air through the top filter (like a backup).
@jackcat550
@jackcat550 Год назад
Yeah fan should have been in top vent

Good job on that positive fan . I was just wondering that fan works as soon as you plug it into your car 🚗. Just curious if I missed something. Take Care.
@PinkysTravelAdventures
@PinkysTravelAdventures Год назад
Yes it does, I've run its power cable to the Car input on the Van BMS, so when van plugged into truck, it gets power straight away.

Great effort. Have you tried it out? Does it generate sufficient positive pressure? In very dusty conditions I am wondering if your filters will get clogged, not a lot of surface area?
@PinkysTravelAdventures
@PinkysTravelAdventures Год назад
Hope to go for a dusty drive this weekend. Will see. Based on the Dometic DRS any positive pressure is better then none.

Hi, fantastic idea for sure I have the 100mm fan it is rated at 275CFM it really moves the air I was quite surprised as to how strong it is. My question is pretty much the same as everyone else's really, have you tested the idea does it work? Have you had any problems & if so, what were they? I have no room left on my roof for a Dometic or a Sahara, so I pretty much have to give this a shot. If you were to do it again what would you do different, how & why? Any pointers you can give me, would be very much appreciated. Garry.
@PinkysTravelAdventures
@PinkysTravelAdventures 6 месяцев назад
Hi Garry, Yes I would do it again, however would use an AC filter which has a larger surface area. I've added a switch to turn it off so it doesn't wear out whilst on the blacktop. No haven't tested yet, but I'm confident it will work even better than the dometic, which relies on movement to generate the air pressure.

Hi again, I have made a little progress with my dust suppression filter the K&N RU-2590 fits my 4inch Seaflo blower & cavity space in the van perfectly, the K&N can be taken off & cleaned out & re oiled for the next trip. Regards, Garry. @@PinkysTravelAdventures

My only concern is that all the Blowers I have looked at, including the one you have used, say that "Continuous Duty" means running for no more than 20 minutes non stop. Not sure how you will get on with it running non stop.
@PinkysTravelAdventures
@PinkysTravelAdventures 9 месяцев назад
Yeh, I've now changed mine so it's on a switch, I turn it off when on blacktop.

so whats the verdict, did it pressure the van and keep the dust out? did you have to go around the van and seal up all the other holes Jayco drilled??
@PinkysTravelAdventures
@PinkysTravelAdventures 11 месяцев назад
Haven't been on any dirt roads yet to really put it to the test, but it does pressurise the van, so it's gotta reduce any ingress in transit.

Was the aluminum filter mount plate just taped to the plastic grill or did you also solid attach eg screw it ???
@PinkysTravelAdventures

Taped around grill with duct tape, plus sika the gaps where tape would not stick.
