Food storage is always a compromise. You can either run one food and automate storage perfectly or run multiple foods and have to do a bit of jank to keep it running.

@FrancisJohnYT
@FrancisJohnYT Год назад
Turned out it's a bug with stuff that comes out of fridges. The temp is locked at 1C and if you stick the food into a vacuum the temp remains locked. If you expose the food to temp change via gas or liquid it jolts the food out of the temperature lock. Fastest way to fix it is simple to reload the game. Only matters for the one time food migration. (Have not researched this in depth so maybe do some testing if you intend on exploiting this) Love the mod by the way, makes everything look so much nicer. a few things to mention: 1. instead of making volcano tamers, you could make a transit tube network linking all volcanoes, both metal and non, to a central steam bath and boiler. use the pitcher pump and bottle emptiers for this. i am building a colony around this. 2. don't forget that a single puft drops 47.5 kg of slime, enough for 11 dusk caps. 3. speaking of the mini pumps, it maybe worth it to build a central puft ranch, fed by layered polluted water rows with mini gas pumps that are spaced apart from each other.

One thing about deep freezers is that the food does not have to be at -18 C if it is in an atomosphere that is below -18. Additionally, gases below 1 g do not transfer heat to surrounding materials (e.g. blobs of naphtha). If you put 0.1 g of hydrogen in each freezer spot and run the radiant pipes through the hydrogen, you won't need to worry about bugs with the debris not transferring heat. You can get 0.1 g hydrogen in with a gas valve and a pipe by destroying a pipe with the 0.1 grams of hydrogen within the freezers.
@nematrec1
@nematrec1 Год назад
Mined out abyssalite causing temperature problems? Francis, you're losing your touch. I still remember when you made the point in babybase that abyssalite debris doesn't transfer heat. Analyzing geysers and volcanoes gives databanks that you can use in place of the orbital data collection lab databanks. It's usually enough to do a couple researches. Interesting enough, the ones from geysers are made of genetic ooze and don't melt, where as the ones from the orbital data collection lab are made of plastic and do melt.

Yup on the abyssalite, i was "wtf, FJ, Abyssalite will never exchange temp, mini base, etc" The WHAT on the databanks????? there TWO types of them? iI dont know what scares me the most: the ONI developers, that predicted that plastick databanks would messup the vaccum on volcanotamer (they didn't, most likely they f'd up themselves and got to change it), or the ONI community, that is outpacing the devs since ever. (insert 'math is math' Mr Incredible meme in here > databank is databank)

@nematrec1

@@FrancisJohnYT You can also get heat out of an abyssalite tile with tempshift plates. You can also *technically* get it out via normal heat transfer if the temperature difference is high enough. @NetherPhoenix
@NetherPhoenix Год назад
I believe what's happening with the "food not decreasing in temperature until reload" is actually related to the mass of the food in question. The way ONI temperature change calculations work, if the difference is too small, no heat is transferred. Debris - Solid tile (which is the only conduction you have in the vacuum) doesn't have a very good multiplier to start with, plus the abysmal .6 thermal conductivity, and finally the minimal mass (only 1 kg for the food in question!) all combine to give a number too small for the game to track, aka "no transfer". The reason Save + Reload fixes this is that it re-stacks debris in the same tile -- so suddenly your 1 kg seafood is part of the same stack as all the other kgs of seafood, and with more mass, the temperature change threshold is reached, and heat transfer can occur. You can exploit this mechanic to your favor, though! If the gas in an area has little enough mass (we're talking micrograms, ideally), it won't be able to transfer temperature to the liquid lock, but can still be lowered down to a freezing environment to keep your food fresh!
@philondez
@philondez Год назад
The problem with some of the food not hitting deep freeze temps, or cooling at all really, is that if it's been cooled down inside of a fridge its temperature is clamped for some reason. As long as you're not continually using fridges once that food goes off it'll stop being a problem. Reloading might fix it but it's a pretty minor problem as long as you didn't have dozens and dozens of fridges stuffed with food. I do think chlorine (or hydrogen) will fix the issue as well, the temperature will remain clamped but the atmosphere will set the food's status to deep freeze rather than refrigerated

Would be a good idea to move the raw food conveyor loader to nearer the central ladder to save them traipsing to the back of the kitchen for each delivery :) Also - there's only really space around the finishes cooked food storagw, but you could extend it slightly and add a mini gas pump, so you could extract the rot pile and quickly re-vacuum it in the case of decomposition you can't automatically catch quickly enough. P.S. Make sure to forbid mutants in cooking machines if you haven't already?

Food in gas environment that is under -18 C is considered deep frozen, no matter the actual temperature of the food. It could be boiling and still deeply frozen :) It's much easier with chlorine, and the "cold" that escapes is negligible, due to minuscule mass of liquid barrier.
@thaimen.
@thaimen. Год назад
I think the food not cooling down is a bug. I've had it before where food that was recently taken from a refrigerator is put into a deep freezer. Maybe the game is coded to keep the temp at 1C when in a fridge and doesn't update accordingly to being carried by dupes? I've solved that bug by letting food warm up ever so slightly after having it removed from the fridge, but before putting it in the conveyor loader. Saving/reloading apparently works as well. I've not seen this bug since, and I play with True tiles (and a few other dozen mods) as well. (I just avoid moving stuff from refrigerators into my deep freezer) I doubt either True tiles of the duplicant reroll mod is making this bug happen but you never know. Love the series!
@MarkoUniversePlays

I don't think the food temperature is a bug, its supposed to work that way. If you drop food into a vacuum you need to cool the food to -18 or colder for it to freeze. If you freeze the Environment you're dropping the food into to -18 or colder the food will instantly freeze as soon as it drops out of the chute! Much easier. I use carbon dioxide or hydrogen both work equally well.

Radbolt Launchers are not, and I haven't even bothered trying a Steam Turbine. Industrial machinery, I haven't tried, but might be possible to do with multiple conductive panels per machine... On that note, maybe try a vacuum industrial brick? I've been rewatching the Rime series with the Cryobrick, and you've done plenty of industrial saunas!

With the changes to how food decays awhile back I've always found a 2 tile Co2 or 1 tile Co2 fridge tile work a bit better than they used to and easily out way the vacuum fridge, but you can use chlorine fridges due to how the game calculates thermal conductivity of gas vs food vs tile contact. Which makes chlorine very.. well strange as the chlorine gas could be -8 and the tile the foods sitting on is -18 and the game just assumes the foods in deep freeze while it comes out of the cooking devices at 75 C and just flash deep freezes the second the food touches the tile.

you don't need a sour gas boiler, the oil wells produce natural gas on their own right? also add a microbe musher to make berry sludge

Get large petrol engines with data banks from analysing geysers. Build a 30 tile range rocket with a cargo bay. If you get one guilded asteroid field you can gather a ton of fullerene which will set you up for a loong time. Plenty of magma to use as a heat source for your sour gas boiler. You can be set up before cycle 500 or 600.

Honestly the vacuum fridge is such a hassle, eventually your dupes will haul a half eaten piece of food that's close to rotting and you will get nice blob of polluted oxygen in there. I just close it off, stick a piece of bleach stone for the freezing to happen instantly, and corner grab the food needed into a powered fridge so the dupes can access it

Yeah, setting the kitchen up with fully automated food sorting/delivery is a bit tricky once you go beyond one grill/stove. I have 4 of each in my megabase, and it took a lot of trial and error to design everything.

For natural gas, since you want to run a petroleum boiler, the oil wells that collect the crude oil will release some natural gas.

how do the temp shift plates work with the insulated tiles? could you use those to make the food freeze faster or do the insulated tiles have an interaction?
@samir5740
@samir5740 Год назад
the tempshiftplates(TSP) will exchange heat with the tile they are in AND all the 8 adjacent tiles around it. if you put a TSP on the tile the food is deposited, it will transfer "the chill' to the outside by the diagonal lack of a tile. took me a few minutes on my last 'Mini Base' play to undestand why my food was at 130°C, instead of the -30°C i had on the gas pipe termo sensor... had put the storage on the corner of the hot box of the termo cooler, and a TSP to accelerate the cooling. I still facepalm myself to this day, was pulling heat from the steam room into my cooling corner. ONI will get you.

Hey Francis. you can make a pretty cool gas filter by sticking an element sensor on the pipe and a vent on the next tile of piping. if the desired gas is in the pipe you close the vent, if its not the desired gas you open it via automation. I know its not the 100% power free filter, but it doesnt feel as glitch-abusive.

The bug with food temperature: Sometimes when food is stored in a refrigerator, it gets stuck at 1 degree until save/reload. So since you're not using refrigerators, it shouldn't happen again.

The food does not cool fast enough because there is no medium for the transfer of heat energy. i use a liquid medium(10X better than hydrogen). specifically super coolant.(or petroleum if you don't have super coolant). note: you cannot use tiny amount of medium, it must be at least 1kg(i use 10kg) otherwise the game will delete the medium. i block 1 side with naptha 10kg so my dups can access the "fridge". Setup the naptha first before putting in the medium, otherwise the medium will flow all over the place.

Hey Francis, you still have a pretty large chunk of unexplored space in the bottom right of the map. What lies beneath? Also, I'm going to echo a lot of people here. Bleach stone into the food storage. You have a 16C range from deep freeze to chlorine condensation. It's definitely the easiest sterile gas to work with until you can get solid carbon dioxide with rockets. You don't need to do any sort of shenanigans to maintain a deep freeze status without condensing the chlorine. The loop running through the thermo regulator set to cool anything above 19C will work just fine.

Food stuck at 1 degree celsius: I had it happen as well, its something with genetic ooze-based items exchanging temperature with things while on rails when rail is first placed. Reloading fixed it for me, and has been stable for ~150 cycles already. Wouldnt worry anymore

As you explored in a very entertaining but for you frustrating way about two years ago: For food considered to be instantly deep frozen despite its own temperature the game looks for the colder of the foods temperature and the atmosphere it's in. But vacuum doesn't count as an atmosphere with temperature anymore.

-40 might be too low we dont want the naphtha freezing and destroying the liquid lock on the food storage, i think naphtha is good till -50 but make it -25 just to be safe, no need for such low temperatures, also for a while the temperature of the food itself didnt matter just the gas its sitting in so you dont need to worry about the rate that the food exchanges heat with the tile, just that the gas its in stays below -18, i am not sure if it is still that way, but i am positive, stick some bleach stone in there and try it if u can.

I'm not sure how feasible it is but Fertilizer Synthesizers make 10 g/s NatGas. The Gas Range uses 100 g/c but I don't think it'll be on all the time, while the FS can run pretty much 100%. Definitely put lights over them for maximum NatGas efficiency.

For the food storage square, I don't use vacuum but I place a piece of bleach stone there, it will emit a bit of chlorine gas which stays there because it's heavier than oxygen, then I seal the square off. The chlorine will help to eliminate any germs that may find their way to the food I have. Do you think this is good? I don't know, it's been a long time I haven't played. It's a bit finicky to keep the chlorine in gas form when I freeze the thing, though.
