When I was building the Jimny we came to the point of installing the lights; and I was so disappointed by the workmanship that I vowed to learn to do it myself next time and make sure that the quality would be far better in the process. So when Adrian at Revhouse offered to guide me on the process but basically give me the tools and knowledge to do it all on my own, I jumped at the opportunity and although it had its fair share of hiccups along the way, it was a very empowering experience and I managed to successfully install a brand new set of Osram MX180-CB Spotlights onto my Toyota Hilux; switches, relays and fuses all figured out! So I wanted to share this experience with you and hopefully give you the knowledge to either be able to do it yourself or to be able to recognise if your Auto Electrician is doing the job properly!

It’s great to be able to customize your vehicle with the help of professionals, but this time Adrian you are giving overlanders the option of replacing standard spotlights with high-quality Osram MX180-CB Spotlights with a comprehensive step-by-step DIY instruction by Adrian of REVHOUSE and yourself. What I find to be of immense value for other overlanders who want to get the best spotlights on their vehicle is that they can with this information learn about wiring and electric techniques required for this installation. As you have so readily explained when doing it yourself, mistakes can happen, and you may well need professional advice in correcting them. Precision is everything. Well done Adrian of REVHOUSE and yourself, Adrian!

Another top video buddy. Refreshing to witness a relative electrical novice having a good go at installing vehicle electrics. Everyone boo boo's now and again, but by making a mistake, you're also learning! Strong end result. Loving the Osram's and definitely worth the extra money. Great video all in all.

Just got my MX180 CBs for my LC200’2016. I’m sure about their quality, just living in the EU means that: you’re allowed to have only 2 day driving lights and the extra spots must be >=600 mm apart 😉 Thanks for the video!

I think i've been spoiled these days with my current lights from PIAA and Stedi both coming with high end plug & play harnesses, run the cables, tie them down and you're done, 20min job. Although many years ago, I did work for an ARB franchise, so I have done my fair share of scratch built installs, it's a good skill to have which becomes invaluable when you're trouble-shooting.

Loving how your vehicle is turning out! Believe it or not, taking a lot of queues for my FJ here. (PS totally gonna go the same rims!) I get the switch install if you want a physical switch, haha but me, being Mr.Lazy, just got the *Spotlight Wiring Harness* from 4x4Direct(R295). Literally no cutting or pushing wires into the cab and back, just piggybacks of your existing H4 Female plug. Comes with Relay and own fuse. Literally just plug and play. Spotties go on with your highbeams. Been using it on my last 3 vehicles and never let me down, and also, no need to mess with any wires(Since I'm FAR from a Auto Sparky)

Another good video Adrian! Neat touch with the power in the glovebox :-) I do agree with the Deutsch connectors being among the best available! HOWEVER-> In the future U may want to teach U`rself how to solder wires :-) As for crip connectors & heatshrinking tube; Go with the ones that have glue inside. SO SO much better in terms of protecting the work U put in. Between the switch & the high beam splice, ther should be a fuse!! Personally I wire up lleft spot to left high beam & so on....U may also add what gauge cable U have used for the differen applications. I`d appreciate it if U included a link to where U sourced the switch, I see it slid right into the factory cut-out. I do know there is a good aftermarked for these in ZAR :-) All the best :-)
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding 3 года назад
Hey Peter! So my father taught me how to solder, and I actually went into this think that’s what I was going to be doing because that’s what I knew; but I’m glad I learnt a new way! I haven’t seen any fancy heat shrinking with glue this side before; will look into it. With regard to a fuse on the high splice; I might add a small inline, I think that’s sensible 👍🏻 next time I do another one I’ll chat gauges etc 👌🏻 oh yes the switches were from a store called 4x4 direct

@@RoamOverlanding Cables over the dash? No man, the power is already at the back, you only needed to pull the cover off, find & install rectangular USB charge sockets that you prefer & connect, no hassle. I installed dual USB chargers on Toyotas that even displays the battery voltage, so this way you can monitor the starter battery voltage while driving whilst having USB chargers ready for use. The best part is when you use those rectangular reserve slots it looks like the dual USB's came factory fitted. ;)

Thanks for another awesome video! Maybe this comment would be more appropriate on a roof rack video but - there has been a lot said recently about roof rack weight limits (Ronny Dahl ect.) any thoughts on this? Are our (SA) weight limits the same as those in ‘Straya?
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding 3 года назад
Hey David; I foresee questions of the topic coming up in my next episode; so might as well start answering now :D the rooftop load ratings are probably the same 👍🏻 the installation process and quality of the roof racks will be different. It really depends on how much effort and what strengthening is applied to the roof to add strength and reduce strain. I trust my EeziAwn rack, as do many. Because they make expedition racks; however anyone who overload their racks a huge amount of accessories will be asking for trouble at the end of the day
