Brought back a lot of memories I’e flown a Super Cub low and slow up and down the Mississippi River from Memphis north and south I had a route to that I would take and find deer on both sides of the river I have a 1947 Funk You might see me over there sometime.
What a fantastic little airplane. Great video. Love the perspective of seeing the panel and controls. I’m curious about the yokes, though. I like them better than the old T-cart steering wheel.
The yokes are from a Mooney. Someone installed them years ago before I had it. There's even a 337 in the logs for them. At first I was going to replace them with original, but they grew on me.
Hi Brian. That was a great video, thank you for taking us with you. I'm interested in purchasing a BC-12D but am a little concerned about ergonomics. I am 6'1 and 200lbs.....not huge but not a string bean either. May I ask how tall you are and your thoughts on a six footer fitting in the Taylorcraft? Thanks in advance for your comments. Jay
The seat bottom and back cushions in a Taylorcraft sit on one large piece of canvas that's formed into an "L" around three tubes. The bottom forward end of the canvas wraps around a wooden rod that goes under your thigh. The more wraps around the wood, the tighter the canvas. Less wraps, looser. If you keep it loose, it will sag more, effectively lowering the seat cushion. I keep a slight sag in mine so that my line of sight is beneath the bottom of the wing (I'm 5'9"). You'd probably want it looser just to have more headroom. Also, a plane with a skylight and no headliner would give you more headroom and less of a "boxed in" feeling. I think you'd probably be fine. Getting in and out requires some "technique", but you get used to it pretty quick. You enter rear end first. There's a youtube video somewhere on how to do it easily. It's easy to change the number of wraps in the canvas. Hopefully a potential seller would let you try it out and see how you fit.
Thank you for your reply! That is excellent information, thanks again! I enjoy your videos and the airplane is stunning…you did such a great job with it. Thank you again for the time. Best, Jay
Great airplane and videos ! I have a question if you don’t mind. I have a J3 Cub and the wife and I really like it but have been thinking about something side by side seating. We are hoping to buy a Taylorcraft with 85 hp and starter. We don’t mind hand propping and the Cub fires right up but would be nice to have a starter. Question is I am 5ft 7 inches and wonder if my head will be up in the wing root. My Cub visibility is great and wondering how tall you are and if seeing out the side windows gives you any problems. Some people who are taller seems like their head is way up there. Any input ? Also great job on your airplane. I’m a A&P and IA and thought about doing a rebuild but I’m 68 and would rather just fly.
