Thanks everyone for watching and all the cool comments. As you can probably tell I was extremely happy to catch these 2 wonderful Pike. Hopefully I'm not waiting 20 years until I get my next PB.
Wow 20 years to catch a 20+ you must of been fishing all the wrong places congratulations on beating your pb twice on the same day 👍 mines a 27lb on my second trip out this season in a marina my first year fishing for pike this year I've always been a carp fishing man and lure fishing for trout and perch but am getting more into predator fishing now and going for the pike 😁
It took 20 years but I wasn’t fishing for 15 of those. Back in early 2000s I was mainly carp fishing all year round with the odd pike trip up to Cavan. In 2005 my daughter was born so I cut back on my weekends. Then I was forced to sell all my fishing gear in 2008. So I’m only really a year or so back at it. And this year was my first properly targeting pike and fishing different lakes. So although my last PB was m 2004 I haven’t really targeted them until now. Well done on the 27lb that’s still a fish of a lifetime to some.
Buzzing for you bud! These rare days are what make pike fishing magic! Seeing all your videos you’ve put in more than enough effort and hard work to deserve a day like this! Bring on the 30!! 👍
It's been an enjoyable slog 😜 But I don;t think I've had a better feeling in fishing. My PB Carp is 39lb 10oz but that was from a french water. I don't think there is any comparison to catching a big Pike.
Delighted for you when it happens it happens. My PB stands at 19lb 15oz for 23 yrs....still waiting to join the 20's club...my young lad already has a 22lb 4oz under his belt....
Thanks Oliver. The fishing Gods can sometimes be cruel but they can also shine on you even if it is for just 20mins 😉Keep the faith I'm sure that big girl is just around the corner. Most of the fun is in trying. 🎣
Oliver , I admire your integrity, there are some who would add the ounce on & call it good... 😂 I'm kinda in a similar situation, my 10y.o. pb is 27lbs 12oz... looking at the pic, you could say it was bigger... but I know it wasn't ... 🤔
Congratulations on what was a red letter day for you, the smile on your face says it all, keep up the great videos please as they are a pleasure to watch.
Cheers John, Yeah good chatting to you. I was going to fish Ramor but then got to fish this place instead. Glad I did now. 😀Did you have any luck after I left?
Nice vid mate. Are you using the baitrunner with drop off indicatiors? Does that not defeat the point of drop offs that are designed to be fishing with an open bail arm? Otherwise may as well just use a standard bobbin
Had the drop offs for that reason to drop off. For most of the day I had a strong north westerly blowing directly into my face. I had the sensitivity on the alarms turned right down but it was still driving me mad beeping. So I used the bailarm with bait runner to give me some extra tension and stop the wind from setting my bite alarms off. It was the only thing that was working for me.
Massive congrats 🙌🏼 I got a new PB in the 20s on the first day I went out this year when I was packing up to go home walking over to take my rod out of the water. Delighted for you
Hopefully you have a lot more good days ahead. Iv only started to watch your videos today, no pun intended but im hooked. You have the kit and seem to be putting the time in so well deserved. Whats the odds on getting peters number privately off you for a day ticket.
Cheers, I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. I don’t have a number for the fishery I contacted them through their Facebook page. Drop me an email fishingwithsteve1@gmail.com
@@karlwatkins2331 Hard goin, Karl, after 15 odd blanks in the last 6 weeks, I'm taking a break, throwin away deadbaits isn't great fun when ye don't even get a beep from 'em.. 😠 Never seen so much feckin rain... 🙄 Congrats on the 12 pounder 😎👍
@peterfitzpatrick7032 thx Peter my so is good at throwing away my dead baits if mine are defrosted I chop em up throw them in different spots it will help some out 🎣👊💯
Congrats on your double PB and thank you for sharing this epic stage in angler's life (not only a catch of the week) with us. BTW great video skills and hats off to your effort and all that equipment. Gonna watch the video again and have a sip of Jameson.
Great effort Steve. Get on that water as much as you can. Fishing like that will not last forever before the bigger fish die off or it gets overfished. Make the most of it and enjoy. Cavan monaghan armagh tyrone and fermanagh are all home to waters with giant pike. The fish in those drumlin loughs have the right genetics environment and plenty of food. Trouble is they get fished out if word gets out and big predators both pike and perch are vulnerable to damage in the wrong hands. Make the most of that water and enjoy. Good luck and tight lines
This particular water is extremely hard as is all trout waters John. It’s allready overfished but not as bad as some other trout waters. 30 euro a day to fish…. No thanks
CONGRATULATIONS MY FRIEND, I’ve been looking forward to this video since you said about your PB and it didn’t disappoint mate, just one of those crocs is a fish of a lifetime , but 2 is incredible, Bloody delighted for you pal 👍🐊🐊🎣🐟💪👦
Somethin tells me you'll be back there, Steve... 😏 Enjoy the dopamine hit, it was a long time coming... and enjoy a few JDs to celebrate.. wish I'd been there to see it... my present pb (27.75lbs) was celebrated alone too... dancing in a field and laughing hysterically... 😂😂😂 What a way to start the new year, mate ... 👏😏 Tight lines and I await the next episode ! 😎👍☘️🍺
Cheers Peter, Thanks for watching long. I was on my own but i think thats why I like making these videos its a great way of sharing the ups and downs of your fishing trips.
@@FishingwithSteveIreland I'm a Dub living in Mayo and my 2 nearest waters (Gara and Urlaur) are ballbreakers, after that its over to Ros & Leitrim .. I'm thinkin after a break, in the first week of Feb I'll be bivvying up for 2 or 3 days and go to war with 'em!... 🐳🐳🐋🐋 😎👍☘️🍺
@@FishingwithSteveIreland The Actor boat is great but you need a spare battery, preferably a 10000mAh batteriy, the 5000 supplied with the boat doesn't last long... when I got my boat, they accidentally left one of EACH inside it !!... I didn't know why it was pulling to one side every time I launched it until I looked deep inside... 😂👍
@@FishingwithSteveIreland Not in that spot it won't 👀 Probably the best hole in Ireland hahaha That lake can be a ballbreaker but it's worth the blanks.
Amazing catches Steve 2 pbs in 20 minutes 😊 the feeling you get when you break your pb is special but then to break the 20lb barrier is a feeling like no other the realisation when you had her in the net deadly feeling well done 👏🏻 🐊
Cheers, I think I was in shock when I got the 23. I was still buzzing from the PB and just couldn’t believe it when I caught the 2nd one. Took me about an hour to pack up. I couldn’t think straight 😂
Well Steve how are ye looking for some advice thinking about heading to a lake around the midlands or Cavan area will be spinning from the bank if you’ve any suggestions of any where to go would be much appreciated thanks and congrats on the pb
Give Ramor a go. Only recently started fishing there but should be perfect for all types of pike fishing and you’ve a chance at a big girl or 2 as well.
@@FishingwithSteveIreland hahay fishing buddy has me under serious pressure to go there, but I've a hankering to get to the river suck. Once the water level goes down
Well done buddy, most of us would be lucky to catch those 2 in 10years nevermind 10mins!! What a session. Bet your still dreaming about it!! It's worth grinding out all those blank days and shitty weather for moments like that. You could also have lost your bait as well with the low battery so it just shows that fortune favours the brave.
Still buzzing from it. I think I was in shock when I landed the 2nd Pike. It was definitely a risk with the boat but the wind was in my favour had it run out of battery so it was a bit of a calculated risk.
uk is so weird in fishing though.. in holland if i drive 1 hour im on the other side of the country (that aswell) and we dont have day tickets... its all open water.. exept for a few small carp ponds.
I'm in Ireland rather than the UK and most of our lakes are natural and open to the public. This particular lake is run by a club who stock it with trout for fly fishing. The pike grow very big in here because of that. The club charge a day rate to fish to cover the maintenance of the lake and the restocking of trout. Unfortunately where I live is also not great for Pike fishing so I have to travel 1-3 hours aways to fish good venues.
@@FishingwithSteveIreland Well it looks like a fun lake with fish like those in there.. there isnt much stocked fish over here.. but i fish some gravel pits with my jon boat that have no land acces for fishing.. Most spots i fish dont have any other fishing pressure,..I went out on the vens today and caught 21 pike on softbaits.. they were on the bite!
@@FishingwithSteveIreland yea same , but didn't see it worth it .. 30 euro and then fuel to get up there , while passing some great waters .. but the appeal of known there is 30s in it I would probably give it another go sometime around spawning
As unhealthy as Irish waters are these days, pike are one species which seem to continue to thrive. Very hardy, probably since they’re opportunistic feeders. Trout stocks across the ireland and uk have been decimated since they can only survive in a much more narrow niche
Yeah this is a stocked trout water. So the pike that were in there have a constantly replenished food source, which is why this lake produces such good fish.
Really liked the video, but the whole concept of a private lake where they can charge you for fishing baffles me...we have hundreds of thousands of lakes in Canada and not one is private!
Thanks for the comment Dave, and I'm glad you enjoyed the Video. We don't have many private/club run waters that hold pike like this in Ireland, so that's why thats I gave it a go. I would usually fish our many public waters for my pike fishing. However we have major issues on our public waters with large amounts of fish being removed and killed. Which isn't sustainable. So unfortunately the numbers of large Pike like these, on smaller public lakes, are now very rare. You will get larger specimens caught regularly on the larger loughs but very few on these smaller lakes. I put the quality of fishing on this lake down to it being a club run water that is regularly stocked with trout for the members who fish it all year round. It's also very well looked after and patrolled daily by members to ensure that it's not being poached. That maintenance and stocking all costs money for the club, who then have to charge a day ticket to anglers to cover the costs. So I personally don't mind doing that if it allows for the quality of lakes like this to continue operating and offering chances for anglers like me to catch unbelievable pike.
