EP33: The Unseen Realm w/ Dr. Michael Heiser 

Almost finished all of Dr. Heiser’s books. I wish I would have found his works while he was still alive so I could have heard him speak live. But no doubt the Holy Spirit has used his works to bring me closer to the Kingdom. I don’t understand all that Dr. Heiser writes, but it makes be study my Bible closer and strive to learn more.

Oh wow, I didn't know this interview happened. Two of my Christian "heroes" together in the same vid? Get outta here. Ok, Jesus is my only hero, but I love these dudes.

I studied Semitic languages as an undergrad (and Near Eastern Studies in general) - the plural Elohim was always shrugged off as a collective epithet for YHWH. So strange and wonderful to see some clarification after all these years. Thank you for having Heiser on this episode.

For years I’ve been told that the things I hear and see are Hallucinations and I should be on medication. But, what I see and hear are real.People say to me the very things you talk about. Dr. Heiser’s easily thee best biblical scholar today. He explains everything so thoroughly and articulates things that you can’t put into words yourself so well. Instead of arguing with some people because it’s something I can’t articulate, usually somebody else that’s already well learned in biblical theology as well and tries to use it to argue atheism or “contradictions” (99.9% of the time by taking a verse blatantly out of context) then I just send them a video by Dr. Heiser that pertains to whatever it is.

Dr. Heiser can be hard to follow sometimes but this video was pretty understandable and fascinating.

I love Michaels perspective. He takes us back to a primitive but highly pragmatic and personal view of the kosmos. Modern man learns to instrumentalize people like things, but the ancient view teaches us the importance of recognizing person hood, morality, agency and conflict even in places we can't naturally see it. The world is at war, and if you think it's just with your brother you're missing the plot and are a mere pawn. The truth is so much stranger and is inherently relational.

Thank you so much for this. I only found Dr. Heiser last year, way too late in my life and his. I’ve watched and listened to hundreds of hours of his teaching and it has changed my life.

The way to refer to Yahweh in distinction from other elohim, other than the biblical way - "the Most High Elohim", is that he is the *uncreated* Elohim. All other elohim are created and were created and are continually sustained in existence by Yahweh Elohim.

I remember The Bible Project doing a video about this but not really in depth. I thought it made sense and was very interesting!

I wrote a fictional book called Heaven Gate. I know, not the cult. I wrote it about two years ago, put it up on Amazon and then forgot about it as its poorly written as Im no writer but I was compelled to write it. Call it what you like. I found a cloth called the Shroud of Turin 9 years ago and it was the catalyst for the book. No oak Island in mind and the writing was done unwillingly. Now, these oak Island vids have been showing up in my feed the last week and its eerie to say the least. I heard about the Island and the money pit briefly while writing the book is all I will say and now this vid linking it to the bible and the occult. The Island is in the prologue and the last chapter which is the 40th. I just figured I use the island as it was fiction. The treasure might be what I wrote about in the book. The last temple. I'm not even messing or trying to sell the book. How could I have known any of these things, I didn't. It's not the ark of the covenant by the way. THE LAST TEMPLE. Clue. Who called himself that? God Bless Mr MH. I feel like God actually prompted me to write that book. I thought it was the devil but now I'm thinking it was the most high. Ill give every cent to charity in Gods name. I don't think this book matters really as far as being saved but it predicts the second coming. I have been on a truth quest through alcoholism and sin. Not a happy quest. My eyes are hurting even writing this. I want to be saved and I hope I will be as I hope we all will be one day. Pease God most high.

If you read the book of Enoch the bible makes more sense. In the Old Testament and the New Testament the writers actually quote words from the book of Enoch so the they take believe what Enoch says. Even at the end of book of Enoch he tells about the end of days which revelations hints at too.They all say too that there was never a man like Enoch and he walked with God which was Jesus as Jesus appears many times in the Old Testament but they refer to him as lord. Especially as no mortal person can be in the presence of God the Father only immortals can

What about Hebrews 1:5? For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”? Or again, “I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son”?

We speak, we communicate, we transfer meaning through words, and God is just one more word. But what meaning we pour into it leads to misunderstandings. God is often used as a proper noun. God is at times used to convey a particular character and, or nature. However, I would like to suggest that God references a position. When I see, use, and think of the term God, the meaning most appropriate in consideration of context, is authority. As an example, Yashua uses it …. I go to My God and your God? Is He speaking of Himself after all He is God, but clearly, He is Speaking of the Father? How can He God, have a God? If you simple replace the word God with authority that sentence makes perfect sense, as will every other sentence or statement involving the term. Our problem in understanding scripture seems to be in the application of English.

Is it not incumbent on Dr.Heiser to start a new church since he has more or less completely destroyed the doctrine of the trinity, as it is decreed by Athanasius or a Protester? What he speaks can NOT be reconciled with traditional dogma or doctrine.

As a Mormon I appreciate many of Dr. Heiser’s insights and work. That being said we do not view the Elohim as equal and interchangeable. Some are “the Great and Noble ones.” Adam, Abraham, and others will sit on thrones in the Kingdom. Jesus Christ will always hold his special status as our savior. He was in premortality Yahweh. Thank you.

How do you guys explain Jesus Christ always referring to the Father? Not in his mortal state but throughout all scriptures including apocryphal writings? I am positive more and more scripture will be found as time continues as the Lord sees fit. Jesus is the God of the OT with full authority over the earth, He is the Most High, yet he always gives Father the glory. God also always states, "this is my beloved Son". Does Dr. Heiser not believe we are all God's children? He has his own opinion that we are just another creation etc. I have learned a great deal from him and understand so much more but he confuses me in his theology of our actual relationship with God the Father and Jesus Christ.

This isn't anything new. I'm thankful that there are people out there who are willing to let the bible speak for itself and are not scared to echo the text. We serve the Most High God who is the God of gods!

The Book of Enoch, Jasper etc should have never been taken out of the Bible those other books helps explain a lot of what we don’t know...it’s in those other books.

Why can't Angels have their own bodies which are "celestial" as Paul says in 1 Cor 15. Really needed is a definition of "spiritual" body or spirit. We assume that spirit means something we can put our hands through. Even if Angels fell, why do we assume they lost their original form, as something not terrestrial, 1 Cor 15. So, they from there can appear in human form as in Sodom and Gomorrah. They would have to have had some sort of form in order to war in the heavenlies (Daniel 10).

Absolutely fantastic stuff, however, it also highlights one critical operational shortcoming, and that it is the need for practical power and tools in dealing with spiritual warfare, power and tools that God has already provided but which are suppositionally ignored by much (most?) of the Church. The shortcoming is revealled in Mike’s use of the word ‘normative;’ we so often confuse that which is with that which should be: the ‘is’ is the Church’s general rejection of the baptism in the Holy Spirit (as distinct from the born-again miracle)-as promised and described in each of the four gospels-and the ongoing subsequent need to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and the ‘should be’ is the acceptance, reception and application of the same. Without that reality of the Holy Spirit and the equipping He provides-on His terms, on Biblical full-gospel terms-you are no more equipped to face evil spiritual entities than you are to climb Everest with nothing more than flip flops and a pair of underwear, irrespective of having been born again. But again, having said that, incredible revelation, as delivered through Dr. Heiser.

12:56 Deuteronomy 32:8 divides the people according to the sons of God, the angels, even as in Daniel 10:13 the Israelites in exile in Babylon had angels assigned to them at one point Michael the archangel (one of the chief angels) came to help a lesser in authority and power angel to deliver the message entrusted to give Daniel. There are principalities and powers in heavenly places Ephesians 6??) over which God has placed his angels to regulate. We find they are not always able to control man (as God gave his Spirit to do, before the flood), but do control the spiritual powers.

The best way to understand scripture is to have been there when it was written and know the language as your native language and know the world view, idioms, metaphors etc. HOWEVER! No one alive has that ability (shocking I know hehe). SO....The next best thing is to have a thorough education/understanding of the times when it was written, the world views by the people and nations in that time and of course an understanding of the ancient languages it was written in. BUT!...(hehe)...Since most of us cannot do get a thorough, proper, formal education on ancient languages etc, we still have another option to learn the best we can, online (or wherever) from reliable sources. And in this case, maybe find a real, true, certified/reliable expert and learn from them as well as other sources. Heiser is about as high up as you can get for people who know the ancient languages, cultures etc. and know how to translate the scriptures into modern day English (in USA). I find it interesting that RU-vid commenters attempt to correct him and his understanding when Heiser is actually most likely the top person one can find to help explain things and translate. Yet avg Joes say, "This Heiser guy doesn't know what he is talking about, maybe we should find an ancient Hebrew language expert and ask him....". That's like trying to "educate" a fireman on how to put out a candle hehehe (I just got that analogy from another commenter on this page hehe) :P PEACE!

The scripture was supposed to be read with the directions from our heavenly father and not just our eyes. You can read the whole Bible 1000x and still don’t understand most of it. GOD will show you what you needed to see and not what you wanted to hear.

When he called on Baal to start the fire on the altar and nothing happened, it wasn’t because Baal decided not to do anything it’s because he didn’t exist in the first place. Any good reason to think that all these things written in the bible are true?

55:25 someone asked the exact question that I wanted to know, have you ever had a supernatural experience? Dr. Heiser makes himself look like an expert on the supernatural and yet admits that he’s never had a supernatural experience. That explains a lot! And before you ask, I am not an expert but I am not a pot calling the kettle black. I have had supernatural experience, what they call now sleep paralysis (which is not accurate at all) and it’s something that Jesus saved me from. I can tell you from personal experience that the demons are afraid of Jesus and that’s it. Demons are certainly not afraid of humans. It would be like a rabid wolf being afraid of a new born baby rabbit. But if you are a Christian, a child of God, and you call upon Jesus name, they are terrified he may show up.

Not sure where Heiser thinks in Psalms 82 that this is about angels or spiritual beings. Heiser is missing the mark on that chapter. Psalms 82:1 God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment: 2 “How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Psalms 82:6 I said, “You are gods, And all of you are children of the Most High. 7 But you shall die like men, And fall like one of the princes The divine council In Psalms 82:1 is also referred to as the congregation of the mighty or the great assembly. They gather together to hear judgement, because in verse 2 this divine council judging unjustly and showing partiality to the wicked. Have to remember this divine council is given the "law". Spiritual beings or angles were not given the law. The "law" was given to the Nation of Israel. Moses is the author of the "law", but God instructed Moses what to write down in the "law". Started with the 10 commandments on Mount Sinai. God also instructed Moses all these laws, decrees, Levitical priesthood, the garments, all the kinds of offerings, and ect... Basically this is the books of Leviticus, Exodus and Deuteronomy. In Psalms 82:1 and Psalms 82:6 the "gods" or "elohim" are the magistrates, judges, and other people who hold positions of authority and rule within the nation of Israel. These people were judges (leaders or rulers) whose tasks were divinely appointed (Ex. 22:8 & 9). Hence forth "divine council". So this congregation of the mighty, great assembly, or divine council is now being questioned in Psalms 82:2 by God Himself, who is the Supreme Judge over the nation of Israel and these magistrates, judges or gods (elohim). Also in Psalms 82 when God takes his place in the divine council (congregation of the mighty or the great assembly) is with a prophet. Can not forget Asaph. Asaph wrote Psalms 50 and 73-83 are called the “Psalms of Asaph” Asaph a “seer” or prophet. The word of the Lord would come to prophets in the Old Testament and God would speak through the prophet. So God would speak through Asaph in Psalms 82:2. A question is asked in Psalms 82:2" “How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? This is basically God's divine words spoken through Asaph. The word “gods” or "elohim" in Psalms 82:6 also refers to magistrates, judges, and other people who hold positions of authority and rule within the nation of Israel. These verses are about nation of Israel have authority like judges (gods or elohim), because Israel had the law to Judge. Since the nation of Israel was given the law, it gave certain individuals within the nation of Israel the right to judge using God's law. In Exodus 22:8 & 9 here is where a person can find how the role of these Judges ("gods" or "elohim). Exodus 22: “8 If the thief is not found, then the master of the house shall be brought to the JUDGES to see whether he has put his hand into his neighbor’s goods. 9 “For any kind of trespass, whether it concerns an ox, a donkey, a sheep, or clothing, or for any kind of lost thing which another claims to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the JUDGES; and whomever the JUDGES condemn shall pay double to his neighbor.” Jesus actually quoted Psalms 82 "You are gods”’ John 10:34-38 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods”’? 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), 36 do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? 37 If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; 38 but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.” Jesus tells us in the New Testament when He uses and quotes from Psalm 82 that “You are gods” refers to certain individuals within nation of Israel as gods or to say judges . Jesus also reminds us that Israel had the law and the law represents God. Jesus said in John 10 "It is not written in your law". Also in John 10:34 Jesus is claiming to be equal to God when He said....'I said "You are gods". Jesus is just quoting what God the "Father" spoke in Psalms 82 and is repeated again in by the "Son" who is Jesus in John 10:38. In Summary The phrase “You are gods” is more of a legalistic title like a judge for the nation of Israel and since there were many judges in the nation of Israel at the same time like in Psalms 82 there would be a divine council, congregation of the mighty or great assembly. God spoke to these individuals through the prophet Asaph and in John 10:34-38 that these "gods" or elohim are judges that have the "law" of God. The same is today in America and a court of law with a judge and even the jury who decides the outcome of the party involved. The judge or jury would be like a god or gods. Another good example is the Supreme Court (gods) of the United States. So to use Psalm 82:1,2,6 and 7 as “gods” referring to angels or spiritual beings is TOTALLY false. The only spiritual presence is the words that Asaph spoke that came from God in Psalms 82. Heiser is in error he replaces the Jewish leaders or judges (gods) in positions of authority with spiritual beings. He also misuses the meaning of this "divine council" into a spiritual beings. Heiser has to remember who was given the law to judge by the law, Jesus confirms that. Heiser also seems to push Jesus aside when He quotes Pslams 82 in John 10.

Heiser was WRONG with Psalm 82 and his divine council of gods Israel are the "gods" in Psalm 82, the "gods" are human NOT nonhuman like this Heiser guy promoted. Israel was unique from the pagan nations that surrounded them, Israel had the law of God, 10 commandment, prophets and a Levitical priesthood. Since Israel had the law of God, it put Israel in the position of being "gods," becuase God chose them, Israel was God's chosen people. Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; John 10: 34-35 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” ’? 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken)," 1. >>>>"I said, “You are gods” >>>>>ONCE by the God (Father) in Psalm 82. Aspaph is the Author and Psalmist of Psalm 82. Prophets of the Old Testament like Asaph the "word of the Lord" would come to Prophets like Asaph. Prophets were the "Voice" of God. The use of plurality, like "Let 'us' go down," just means there is no one word that could explain the enormity of God. The Nephilim were "men of renown." i.e. men not fallen angels. There's a ton of assumptions being made from two verses from Deuteronomy 32.

Love your research. Have to point out - you're full on wrong about Mormonism and the idea Elohim are interchangeable. It's absolutely false. Satan and Yahweh/Jesus are creations of God. Not all children are equal, only the title they hold - sons. Also - a point for Frank. You misunderstand the word 'disinherit'. Perhaps you have to twist the actual definition to satisfy your desire to believe in the Trinity even when the Deut versus Heiser references are overtly speaking of inheritance and Yahweh INHERITING (allotment - heritage) Israel. Frank knows you cannot inherit something from yourself... making Yahweh the son of El Elyon, the Father.

Found this Interesting when Heiser was rambling on. At 6:40 into the video Heiser starts talking about Genesis 11:5-9 Tower of Babel. Heiser does not see the Godhead/Trinity in the Genesis 11 account. He is totally blind to it. He actually argues against the Godhead/Trinity and makes up a fantasy of other spiritual beings. Heiser does not understand the "Us" in verse 7. Heiser is in error on his view along with a lot of other theories he has. Beware of Mr. Heiser. Genesis 11:5-9 Tower of Babel But the Lord (Father) came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. 6 And the Lord (Father) said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. 7 Come, let Us (Son & Holy Spirit) go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” 8 So the Lord (Father) scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city. 9 Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the Lord (Son) confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord (Holy Spirit) scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth. Notice the 3 Lords after the word "Us" a person can see the Godhead/Trinity in Genesis 11: 5-9. The Godhead/Trinity in parenthesis for a better understanding. Really do not understand how a person can miss that, Heiser is suppose to be a scholar.
