Yeah I think I’ll replace the starboard forward port light first. Then I’ll have matching opening ports all the way forward. I’m not totally against adding a Lewmar hatch somewhere down the line. I have 2 or 3 used Lewmar hatches waiting to install but then I thought; if I cut a hole in my deck and a used hatch leaks, I’m gonna kick myself. So if I do, it’ll be a new one. 🤙🏼

@@sailingsole hahaha oh shit, ya, it definitely would suck to do that. Hmmm maybe there's a good way to test to make sure they are water tight... you know, I bet you could use some cheap plywood or OSB and make a little box that's just big enough to install 1 of those hatches on. So basically you have a sealed box that you can coat the outside with something relatively cheap like an exterior latex paint, and on the top of the box you can install 1 of those hatches. Then you can put something like a bunch of sand or flour inside the box. Then to test for leaks you can spray the shit out of it with a hose or even a power washer, then wipe down the hatch and the top of the box with a towel to remove the remaining water, and open up the hatch to see if any water got inside. You could even get a couple packets of jello/kool-aid/Gatorade/Flavor Aid and mix it into the sand you put inside the box, that way if it leaks during the test the sand will change color and you would be able to see that right away even before opening the hatch. I bet you could build the box for maybe 30-40 bucks with cheap materials from any hardware store. Shit, maybe even less than that because most big hardware stores will have a selection of off cuts from when they cut boards for people and the customers don't want the pieces they don't need. And they usually have some paints marked down because they messed up the color. Add in a few packs of kool-aid or whatever for like $2. I think it would be a good way to test your used hatches and see if you really do need to spend hundreds on a new one or not. And it could be a pretty good video: how to test USED Boat Hatches CHEAP! Will it leak???

You’re probably right about silicone but the windows still need to come out in order to seal the window sill. I don’t like the idea of having such a big area for water intrusion in those sills. I’ve heard that Dow Corning 795 would be the best but I’ve been dumb and stubborn trying ”marine” sealant. As for the larger windows on the cabin top; the one in the video doesn’t leak but two of the other five have small leaks. I’ll get to those eventually. Thanks for watching and the comment. Thanks for the tip. I used Loctite Marine silicone sealant. Hopefully that works. I don’t plan on taking that window out so it should be fine and it is certainly better than nothing 😂. Thanks for watching!

Hi there, no complaints so far. The butyl and rubber is working. The part that also matters just as much is the seal where the glass meets the aluminum. I still have a leak in the window with butyl and rubber because the seal at the glass leaks but it’s not the butyl or rubber that is compromised. Cheers!

Yeah multi layers of butyl tape is a good idea. The cauLk I used was just to seal the sill as it was completely open for any dagum thing that wanted to wander in there. It’s still a work in progress but pretty good for now. 🤙🏼

Yeah I think it will work with the fixed windows and just about any other windows. The clay tape is called Butyl tape. 🤙🏼

Yeah, the new window has a mosquito net. I haven’t popped it in yet. I need to check that out.

Maybe you missed the issue for the fiberglass and epoxy. The layers of the cabin top are exposed at the window seal when you take the window out. I was going to glass it shut to keep water out. Instead I used caulking. Yes, I knew where the water was coming from.

Only you know if you can do it. You need to learn from lessons, books, videos and due diligence. You got this!
