Great video, I would love it if you would do some close ups on some areas, like the spark plug clips etc. Do the spark plugs no longer need to be indexed?? -- - Also maybe a video with the chain case cover off and show where you are pushing on the chain to feel deflection. I am guessing your pushing on the chain as soon as it leaves the sprocket. I can't imagine feeling deflection there as you don't have much leverage, but that's why I would love to see it and how much movement you get at correct specs. Thanks, Great videos!

I ran into two different guys this year with pull start recoils that failed on brand new doo's, you should do a video on how to start your machine with the rope on the clutch trick. So many of these new age riders are clueless to that technique.

I don't think I mentioned it but you should also remove the spare belt and store it the same way.

First thing I thought when he said just snug them up. I have a 2012 etec so perhaps newer ones don’t need to be indexed?

Thanks for all of these videos Bret. Fantastic! I don't see XPS S1 clutch cleaner anymore on the XPS site or Ski Doo's site. Did they stop making it? Supply chain issue? Do you have an alternative? Thanks.
@RideRasmussenStyle
@RideRasmussenStyle 2 года назад
Yea they don't supply it any more, I recommend a good quality brake parts cleaner to cut any stubborn residue.

In the past, Rotax recommended leaving the Sparkplug replacemet to the dealer becaused the plugs were indexed. Does the 850 require indexing?
@RideRasmussenStyle
@RideRasmussenStyle 4 года назад
No indexing required. There would be some benefit on a high compression, high RPM engine. But you would see very little if any benefit on the 850 engine.
@ktajax
@ktajax 2 года назад
Oem BPR plugs have the crush washer that automatically sets the index. Other plugs will not.

HI Brettt Jim here was wondering about servicing the rest of the rear skid bushing that do not have grease nipples. All the front a arm bushings are plastic coated needs no grease
@RideRasmussenStyle
@RideRasmussenStyle 3 года назад
The rest of the bushings don't require any kind of lubrication. They either use a self lubing plastic bushing or an oil impregnated metallic bushing. Having said this however you may notice some irritating squeaks when you bounce the sled in the garage. This can all be taken care of with a high quality aerosol lube such as XPS anti corrosive spray.

How often should the antifreeze be replaced? I have an '18 Summit X and this (2019-2020) will be it's third season on the snow.
@RideRasmussenStyle
@RideRasmussenStyle 4 года назад
The XPS antifreeze that comes in the etec engines is much better than the old ethylene glycol based antifreeze. It will last indefinitely in seasonally used applications like sleds. Severe overheating and other catistrofic stresses could be cause to replace. For normal use however it would be considered a life time antifreeze/coolant solution.
@robhuseland2287

Is it normal to see the coolant level below the cold fill line?

Hey Bret, I thought that that the chain tension was supposed to be checked when hot. Is that not the correct way to do it?
@bretraspberry
@bretraspberry 4 года назад
Of course in a perfect world you certainly would. Reality is that the steel components, the chain and sprockets don't expand hardly at all with heat, or not at least enough to effect this adjustment. I'm fine with making the adjustment cold and then it's ready and I don't have to get any tools out while i'm on the mountain. It is best to leave just a tinny bit of slack in the chain so that if it tightens up a bit when warm it doesn't load the bearings. The aftermarket belt drive on the other hand can be more accurately adjusted after the sled has been run and warmed up.

I've been wanting to change the spark plugs on my 18, don't they have to be indexed or pointed in a specific direction?
@RideRasmussenStyle
@RideRasmussenStyle 4 года назад
I get that question a lot. I've never seen any indexing shims on the 800 or 850 engine so my thought is no. I used to index sparkplugs on my race engines but I see no need for indexing a stock engine. Let me know if you find out different.

@@RideRasmussenStyle If you get them from Skidoo (actual skidoo P/N), the crush gasket will be the correct thickness to index them properly

I noticed that you don't have a front strap? only the adjustable limiter strap. any reason not to run the front strap? or did i miss it and it is there?
@bretraspberry
@bretraspberry 4 года назад
Good catch!! This is actually a preproduction sled that we rode last year and they were not equipped with a double strap. The MY20 production sleds that you see with the adjustable limiter strap feature do have the double strap setup. Thanks for watching.

@@bretraspberry I'm hoping you will have a video on how to best setup suspension for stock skidoo sleds for example the expert or the freeride. and what adjustments do what to handling characteristics. most people just take the sled off the dealer floor and go ride when its not setup to them at all. so some basic 101 adjusting on a new sled to match the rider would be amazing. and maybe a part 2 on more in depth on your Fox setup you run. I have read your article on your webpage. but a video i feel will reach more people. love your channel and what your doing! amazing stuff thank you!

Hi Brett I noticed that you are not using the stock seat and can. It looks like a Skinz Seat and I'm not sure about tha can. Please tell us your dislikes if any on both.
@RideRasmussenStyle
@RideRasmussenStyle 3 года назад
The seat is a low rise skinz. It is very minimal. Lighter and manufactured with closed cell foam so it will not take on water like the OEM seat. It's lower and narrower than the OEM seat. We use this design because it is very unrestrictive, it allows crossing from side to side very effortless. Not very comfortable, but then I never sit while riding anyway. www.riderasmussenstyle.com/shop/skinz-ultra-low-rise-seat/ The silencer is a Diamond S, titanium construction, very light at only 4 pounds. Durable, quiet, and actually makes power unlike most other cans.

I would of replace chain case oil if it was a used sled
@RideRasmussenStyle
@RideRasmussenStyle 3 года назад
That's a good call! However I recommend to replace the chain case oil in the spring so that water will not be sitting in the case causing corrosion during the off season. Thanks for watching!

Bret, do you have anything on the coolant levels? My cold coolant level is much lower than the cold fill line. Should I be topping off the coolant?
@RideRasmussenStyle
@RideRasmussenStyle 3 года назад
Generally I find that with pressure in the system it expands the hoses and takes the level down. If you vent the pressure out likely the coolant level will come up.
