Summer has (seemingly) arrived 🌞 and with it the need to water the garden and protect crops from new garden 'friends'...
My aim this week is to make a brassica cage - and bear with me because I do eventually get around to it! On the way there though we: water the tomatoes, plant out a new courgette/zucchini, visit a local yarn bomb, weather a storm, decide what to sow in August, harvest some berries, make a cake, spot a fox, harvest a cabbage, go even more ball-crazy on the plot, and plant out the Brussel sprouts. I even get to finally show you a snake bean flower! A real mix of stuff in this week's episode stretching from last Sunday to this Sunday - hope you enjoy 😊💕🌱

Blackberry & Cinnamon Basil cake recipe:
Step 1 - grow blackberries and cinnamon basil 🤣 (no, in truth you can use any fruits and flavourings!)
130g plant based yoghurt
180g plant based milk
(if you don't have yoghurt, use 300g of milk and add 1 tbsp of lemon juice and let stand for a few minutes)
100g sugar
tsp of vanilla
40g vegetable oil
Step 2 - mix together all wet ingredients and sugar
Step 3 - sift together:
250g of self-raising flour
pinch of salt
Step 4 - Add blackberries and cinnamon basil to the flour mix. You can coat the blackberries in a little cornflour to help keep the cake from getting too soggy.
Step 5 - Add wet mix to dry mix and combine.
Step 6 - Bake 50-60mins at 180C.

The jam recipe that actually worked was 1kg fruit to 800g sugar with a packet of pectin - and this time I didn't overboil!
