EPC's synthetic fibre reinforcement is used to replace steel mesh and steel fibre in concrete and shotcrete. Segmental linings in tunnels have traditionally used steel cage and steel fibre reinforcement.
Cost issues, concerns over corrosion and steel durability and the high performance of EPC's synthetic fibre reinforcement has led to EPC's synthetic fibre being used to reinforce segmental linings. With the help of finite element analysis (FEA) designs, EPC's BarChip fibre has been used to reinforce projects such as the Malaga high speed rail, the Ontigola to Aranjaz rail link and the Harefield to Southall gas pipeline in the UK.
