I find it interesting to watch his matches. He certainly has some crazy actions, but he can just as quickly switch into a wonderfully classic fencing style. One style feeds into the other.

@@bigbearfencing If anyone ever wants a master class on how to deal with Heinzer's fencing, watch Park vs. Heinzer from Rio 2016.

Great video, as always. I guess Glazkov should have been even prompter as the first minute was coming to an end, due to the passivity rule… the attack window was almost shut when Max attacked

Its hard to say in this situation. From seeing how the FIE circuit is reacting to the new passivity rules there is an argument either way. It seems lots of the guys freak out around the 40 second mark and rush a double. More are happy to turn the 1 minute into a 2 minute point after taking the P yellow. (I believe Glazkov was expecting this when he got hit) I feel like Max was cognizant of the 1 minute and built up to that, and may have attacked at 55 seconds anticipating his opponent was winding down to accept the p card (kinda like how some guys push in the last few seconds of a period). But I couldn't say for sure. I can't say for certainty that Glazkov should have pushed harder, but I think it would be an interesting conversation to get these guys perspective on fencing around the passivity rules (post Olympics when they are willing to open up about their games a bit more)

He could easily get DOUBLE out of his flesche. But he wasn't paying attention to his distance, and let Heinzer too close for easy flesche. .

Wouldn’t the sustainability of that “complexity” be questionable? Energetically bouncing up and down would be a tad more practical if wasn’t for the opponent being in front.

Its certainly not a classical approach to fencing but he is a far more accomplished athlete then I will ever be. Plus to his defense, at all levels, people act weird when you do weird.

@@bigbearfencing That's the truth. The most annoying person to fence in my club is a guy who seems to refuse to acknowledge that he's been parried or has missed his attack (this is in foil) and just keeps throwing remises. Some of the time, this just sets him up for an easy parry 4, riposte, but more often he'll just keep going forward without presenting any defense at all. Unfortunately, he's so fast that he regularly gets points simply by timing out the riposte. It's really quite difficult to deal with, especially since we're all used to dealing with people who will retreat and attempt a parry or something defensive after a failed attack. It also makes it hard to definitively take the right of way from him, because if you stop retreating after making the parry, he's immediately inside your distance and very hard to hit, but if you keep retreating to maintain distance, then it looks more like you're counterattacking, which puts the RoW in question.

Perhaps it works for once, but you certainly wasting plenty of energy on so much movements, that eventually you will burn out closer to the end of the match. However this is somewhat what I like to do - number of fencers noted that my footwork isn't typical, and not easy to predict.
