Here are the stat's on the lighter rod I was using: SHIMANO DIALUNA 10' MEDIUM SPIN MODEL: 23DIAS100M LENGTH: 3.05m (10') PIECES: 2 (mid join) WEIGHT: 168g (5.9oz) GUIDES: Fuji K-Type SiC MAX CAST WEIGHT*: 45g (1.6oz) LINES CLASSES*: PE0.8 - PE2 *Manufacturer's recommendations I ran this rod with a Shimano Vanford 4000 reel spooled with 10 pound Kairiki braid for this test and added a leader of 16 pound Ocea FC. Also, those attractors or bait extenders I was running ahead of my worm were my son Tom’s 3D-printed Worm Burners. You can get them at www.starlotackle.com
@@StarloGetsReel Haha, true but it would provide good incentive for you to put in some more time worming and improve your skills..... Plus, we'd get to share in your success when you start to get it right. In fact, maybe you and Roger should get together for a strictly beach worming video. Anyway, tight lines mate. 👍
Awesome video Steve, I still can't get over how close you were finding the fish from the shore. Definitely pays to read the water when beach fishing 💜🎣
As I subscribe to both of your channels, I know what Roger is putting on this weekend already. 😅 Thanks for the video, Starlo, and may you have better luck with the worms next time. 😊
great outing all made easier by the worms and squid roger caught, great boat makes such a difference. I would have fished into the rising tide personally but guess you had other commitments the facts you learn from each other is a massive indication. that new rod is on my list now steve lol
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, would've been a very different session without Roger's bait gathering abilities, that's for sure. Fishing into the night would no doubt have produced even more action although, as you guessed, we both had other commitments. I'm not a huge fan of night fishing, to be honest... and it's also hard to video!
A video of about 39 minutes, seemed like 5 minutes! That’s a good sign. An excellent mixed bag of sea creatures caught in a beautiful location. Thanks!
Good one Starlo I was hoping you would land that one. I got 3 queenies yesterday morning plus 2 feeds of garfish in the net. Noticed when you were walking on the beach carrying rods. I carry my rods on my back in a 3 rod bag plus my tackle bag on my shoulder plus a small esky and castnet and live bait holder with my arms makes it easier 😊
@@StarloGetsReel thanks Starlo having queen fish for lunch in egg and bread crumbs. Plus have numus in the fridge. Will try for the million dollar Barra next week big tides 😊
@@StarloGetsReel yes nice wearing a pair of shorts all year round and I have any beach to myself in Darwin. I think they are too lazy to do a bit of exercise sometimes have to do a bit of walking depending on the tide movement. Always catch a feed😊
hi roger me and a mate aryton just moved to wollongong for uni we're right into your videos and we hope to catch some fish some we follow the beach worm vids and they help enormously we were right into flathead fishing on the soft plastics but the beach fishing has grabbed our attention majorly due to your videos
G'day Starlo. That looked like great fun!. Reminds me of a day years ago at Wonboyn! Inside the mouth on a shallow sandbank with little lines of seagrass. Middle of the day, bright sun with bass yabbies! 6 species Non stop action! One of those days you never forget!
I really love these videos it’s great to see so many different fish it was alive and that rod looks absolutely fantastic thanks mate and Rodger it was great
Another quality video Steve, great collaboration with Rodger, brings back great memories of my holidays in Queensland, beach fishing on our holidays, must get back and do it again, great work champion,
Loved the colab Starlo! Comparing techniques with Roger is great viewing and educational. Personally I’ve been more successful beach fishing with a star sinker. 100% agree with the tip you gave regarding the jewies under the shade of the foamy water 👌, caught my first metery in the same conditions. Love the series, hope you make many more together cheers 🍻
I particularly like the fact you both fish a little differently, gear, line, rig etc for comparison. Personally I’m favouring mono these days as long as it can hold bottom, but I continue to fish with both braid and mono regardless to mix it up and see what works best. With the beach worming, I noticed Roger digs a bit deeper than Starlo 👌 Great vids gents. 🍻
Starlo: Hey Roger. Do you want to go for a fish down the beach. Roger: Yeah Starlo sounds good. Starlo: Cool man. Can you get the worms sorted again mate. Roger: 🤦♂️
i like the way that ron callcutt described beach worming. " its easy enough once you get the knack of it. trouble is it takes 50 years of solid practise to get the knack of it." i have never got a beachie myself. that mullet would of gone straight on the heavier rod live and sent out. not a second of hesitation. funny thing i have noticed about things like rays, shovell noses etc. 50% of the time when they move in they do in numbers....hard pressed getting anything else. what line class where you running on your jew/shark rod? me i only use 30lb line. but im also a mono and alvey man to.
Yep, Ron was always on the money. Nailed it! I was running 20 pound braid and a 25 pound mono leader on that heavier rod. That’s why I’m pretty sure it was a shark as it’s rare for even a big jewie to chew through 25 pound mono. And the cut was very clean. But jeez it felt like a jewie to start with!
@@StarloGetsReel the speed of the run had me thinking jew, same with the head shakes being transmitted on the rod.....maybe there was a fault on the leader. for depending on the size of the shark you might find damage from the shark skin and tail......its one of those things that one could argue about forever LOL the unkowable.
@@StarloGetsReel I fish 25lb Mono 50lb Flouro leader in case I need to put some brakes on the fish around structure mainly at night. Daytime usually lighter as heavier spooks the fish I seem to find. I think that rock has done a many a fisherman in its time.
What I shoot I eat. Catching fish and releasing it. Is a SIN why not give it to people since you have DAMAGED it. I hate your show so I’m unsubscribing. Really don’t fish. From a Aitutaki Cook Islander who gives fish to people who don’t have a boat.
Your call. We choose to fish sustainably and take only what we can immediately use ourselves. In my experience, too many people use "catching fish for others" as an excuse to keep on catching and killing. But I can certainly accept that it is very different in different cultures, and I completely respect your choices. Tight Lines.
