If you do not want to keep the leftover solution used for the acid wash, then you need to truly neutralize it before dumping it down your drain. You first need to sprinkle baking soda in it and stir. The solution should begin to bubble and this is good because it is chemically neutralizing the acid instead of just diluting it like when you rinse. Keep sprinkling the baking soda until it stops bubbling And then pour it down the drain with some running water for a couple minutes. Doing this is standard procedure in a lab and will protect the pipes in your home from damage.

Jacob Beal or you can just dilute the shit out of it. Draino is a stronger acid solution than this solution when diluted. Might just clean out your pipes.

that's the reason I don't want to do it. Way too much trouble and a lot of people won't do anything but dump it down the drain.

If you trace the blade where it meets the scales with a pencil before taking apart you will have a visible line for the nail polish. Just remove the line before dipping.

For the acid container I recommend you guys use a glass container, glass is virtually impervious to acids so you should have no long term issues containing the acid! my 2 cents ;) great video guys!

just make sure you dont add water to powdered ferric chloride even in glass it can get hot enough to melt it & if doing a 3 or 4 to 1 solution in plastic probably put 1/2 of acid into water wait a few mins put other 1/2 in (can crack crucible adding just a little water to mound of powdered feric)

@@wesleypowershe’s saying that he uses other acids, not just ferric chloride. Some acids can eat plastic, so he just stores them all in glass anyway.

If you want to get a copper or brass finish on your blade/hardware, after removing it form the ferric chloride and washing it, scrap it with either a piece of copper wire or a brass bristled brush (they use them in gold a lot) and it will transfer the copper/brass over to it and will retain fairly well, and then you can still throw it in the stones if you want the stonewash look.

If you are going to dissassemble /reassemble a knife and do the acid bath customization yourself then Im gonna make the assumption that you have the skills to sharpen a knife so that you wouldn't be shipping it back to Benchmade for them to do it.

There are alot of things that personally I don't know about why different blade shapes do better at certain tasks, or even how to use each blade shape effectively. I can almost guarantee that I'm not the only one in this situation and would love to be educated so that we don't waist our money on what could be "the wrong knife". Just food for thought.
