We actually create the plaza light show for the zoo with Nextech Inc. We really enjoy creating these shows.

It took us years to build up to this size. If you are interested in starting your own for this season, there is a lot of information and tutorials online about the program we use (xLights) and how to build the props. There is also an xLights support group on Facebook that has a wealth of information and guidance on there.

Usually these Pixels don't consume much power as they run on 12v DC and few such show runners have videos where they shared, they don't get any steep increase on their power bills.

Surprising, not that much. It is actually less than when we used to have traditional lights on all evening.

I run a smaller show and did the math last year. Running from 5 to midnight used about as much electricity as one batch of cookies in the oven. LED's are VERY efficient, and even better at night when it doesn't take much light to be seen.

My dad finally agreed to do it next year and we’ve already got a falcon controller, raspberry pi, and an FM transmitter and I’ve been working on xlights and getting familiar with the program. Thank you for the inspiration you have the best show I’ve ever seen.

There are some great groups on Facebook, like the xLight Support Group which has tons of information and true support for getting started. We can’t wait to see what you do. The first year is always a bit rough but it is an addictive hobby! Good luck and have fun!
