10 years ago before I became a legitimate amateur cyclist I could have watched this and had no clue. Today I watch this and I’m out of my chair screaming. Lol
If you want to add an epic win, add Tom Dumoulin win Vuelta stage. 3x comeback on valverde/froome/rodriguez. Havent seen more spectacular win than that one in past 10years.
It was clear that the front group could not decide who would take charge in the final sprint; someone had to give, but they all wanted to conserve the last bit of energy to take the stage win and that devolved into a mess where nobody could agree on who would lead the group. Which Cancellera excellently scoped out. I think they misjudged how close the peloton was as well. Plus, they had been a small group in front for over 200 kilometers, so exhaustion probably played a part as well. As you can see, the peloton was taken by surprise as the riders faster than Cancellera had to suddenly start charging ahead.
Check out my initial comment. Welcome to cycling race, the most corrupt of all sport. First is doping, 2nd is so much team work just to make somebody lift the trophy. I never understood the sport where an entire 200 people can be sacrificed for just one person.
