So glad Trakke’s new line is getting some love from you! I have pretty much sold out to Trakke since they introduced the dry finished wax canvas this year. I bought the new Fingal (in black-oh, so black) as soon as it released and to say I’m “IN LOVE with it” is an understatement. Super minimal with a gorgeous, slim profile. I’m ordering the new Storr as soon as it’s back in stock and will be ordering the Assynt AND some Pouches at the same time to save a few bucks on shipping. Trakke rocks! Using my Trakke "fanny" pack right now on a Disney trip. Got a bit of a soaker this afternoon and everything stayed dry! Love this bag love this company. Top notch.
Good looking bag. I love the dry waxed canvas thing, myself -- it gets to 110-115 degrees (F) for a couple/few weeks in the summer where I am, so that whole oily thing is just a bother for a month. I would like some air mesh, however, for the same reasons, on the back and maybe straps. The mesh was, to my mind, one of the main improvements of the latest Brown Buffalo Conceal, vs my earlier version). But the materials and construction are key, and this one has those things. Love the metal fasteners that might, theoretically, outlast my grandchildren (an oddly philosophical question, given their non-existence...)

Morning Chase. Watching by the Hudson River in NYC, sipping an iced coffee after my morning run. I like waxed canvas in messenger bags, but I’ve not seen a backpack in that material that I had to have. This bag might be the one exception. It’s super simple tho, right? Perhaps a bit too much so. Great review as always. Love your quasi-minimalist philosophy and how it’s evolved as you’ve grown followership.

I absolutely LOVE my Bannoch - the stinging nettles version - bought on your recommendation regarding the "materialz" (throwback) and boy, were you ever right! Worth every penny.
Is there an access pocket on the outside? It would appear not. And that is the only thing holding me back from purchasing the Bannoch. Love the size and the blue color.
You're right; no outside pockets save for the water bottle/umbrella pockets on either side. Still, no quick access for you means no quick access for anyone else, with thieving in mind 😊 But I wouldn't spend all that cash unless I were going to be completely happy with the purchase.

I'm really surprised you don't review more Mission Workshop... they are some of the dopest bags around IMHO. I talked to them the other day and said they really need to send you some bags to review because the artistic vids they produce don't really help us. They are cool'ish in their own artistic way, but they don't really help make a purchase. You Sir, however do help us so thank you Chase Reeves. BTW, I thank my Rhake Multicam every day. Love it.
yea seriously man, those 'artistic' videos do the bags no justice whatsoever.. as it is, they make some really complex bags, all the purposes of which are not immediately obvious to the unknowing eye. they really sell themselves short that way.

Exactly my thoughts. That and the ropy-rope you never tighten because it's too fastidious, but then you end up with a not fully closed bag and so not well protected from the weather / thieves, is a big NO. ( especially if it's supposed to be an outdoor backpack) The material and the finitions look amazing on the other hand...

I've heard report about previous iterations of trakke waxed canvas bags developing some smell when its hot outside. Is it the case with new dry finish fabric?
Could you fit a small packing cube in there ? Doable for a minimal week end trip ? I know you posted this video a couple of months ago but It would be really awesome if you could answer, it's the last information that keeps me from getting this bag ! #biglove
Don't go and buy in a load of pouches. That is not Matterful. Buy thoughtfully. You might make a mistake but you can sell that off and get something that suits you better. Chase has done many reviews on a number of pouches. From that and other reviews around you have the chance of getting what you need with just a little homework in advance.

Silvano Matthews I have the fingal from 2018 (don’t know if they updated it since). It will fit a 15inch laptop (even with a slim sleeve) but there is no dedicated spot for it and it really digs into capacity of the bag. Absolutely perfect for daily office use but I struggle to hold more than what’s listed below Fingal daily loadout - 15inch laptop with a thin sleeve - tech pouch - A5 notebook - daily carry pouch (similar to pouch in this video) - 24oz water bottle - shorts + tee for the gym The quick access pocket is pretty big. I fit my keys, earbuds, phone, wallet, a protein bar and still have room for more Knick knacks lol
LOL just saw the updated fingal later in the video😂😂 guess they added a laptop compartment which is great! Everything else I said still stands, perfect for daily use but not much space for anything else.
