What wet weather you guys had ! A right load of mucky pups. It was awesome to see you sharing your adventures out on the mud with Graham and Camille , ( I hope I've spelt that correctly ) . You all had some lovely finds, but my favourite is the North London Hospital Consumption bottle, it's a belter. Thanks guys for another superb treasure hunt...... Oh ! P.S. Josie, my Daughter LOVES the book of your photographs that was in her Christmas stocking , she was delighted with it and appreciated the effort you put into producing the collection , CHEERS, see you in the next adventure.

I’m very intrigued by Graham’s bottle find that has the very deep pontil at the base. Part of my family’s bottle dump (Pennsylvania stone house dating to late 1700’s) finds included at least 8 intact bottles that nearly identical to Graham’s bottle. While I wouldn’t know if the bottles’ lovely green colors were identical due to the late sixties, early seventies dump digging time frame, the only other difference I can detect is that the bottles we found were a bit larger than Graham’s. The wonderful Englishwoman who had lived across the road from us for many decades, told us of a very fancy wedding that took place at our house that may have taken place in the very early 1900’s, and she believed that the bottles we found dated back to that occasion. She also believed that they had held French champagne in them; that the particular bottle shape was of French origin. Our neighbor was a wealth of information, always, and she was like a grandmother to me, although both of my grandmothers were living at that time. She loved that my mother and I were both Anglophiles, and that we both loved history, antiquing and bottle dump digging. I miss her. Thank you for your videos; I’ve enjoyed all of them!

Quick history lesson rubbish from London transported by sailing barge to brick Fields which consisted of mainly household ash glass and stoneware very little was used in brick making process the majority of rubbish was used to infill the pits that the clay had been extracted from re caped with clay soil you. can just make out the hard that ran out to see where the barges would tie up alongside this had a small gauge railway line to transport bricks and rubbish to and fro the bottles found out further out to sea come from discharges of barges that never made it to land caught out by the receeding tide they would tip the rubbish overboard as it had no value they would then come ashore to pick up the bricks on the next tide. the barges were paid a small amount to take the rubbish from london but the main pay was transportation of bricks to the buiding trade you will find rough stuff clumps as we called them dotted ofshore covered with seaweed these discharges were untouched by bottle diggers i spent years on my boat digging them at low water and recovered over a thousand pot lids over a forty year period also found crashed spitfire wreckage and V2 rocket impact site i think your best find so far has to be the round chandler's cottage ink about £3k in mint condition damn i missed that one good hunting at harry Hailstow !
@Mudpies
@Mudpies 8 месяцев назад
Thanks so much for that info, it really helps in understanding the area better (and makes sense why they sometimes dumped the contents of their barges). Sounds like you have had a bountiful harvest over the years! We love going out there and finding the stray bottles, would love to find some more pot lids! Thanks again and take care 😀👍💪

Wasn't Consumption the word used for Tuberculosis? My Gran used to talk about her Uncle Fred who died from that horrible disease, my Mum was a Nurse and she told me that Consumption was TB. My grandmother had consumption (TB) and went to a sanatorium in Ohio (USA) in the 1900's before the flu pandemic of 1918. She was there for months and months, but did recover. And of course that was before Fleming discovered the penicillin mold in 1928 in London. Wonder how old your consumption bottle is? Wonder if that hospital was near to the St. Mary's Hospital where Fleming practiced?

IF I lived in England, I would so be a mudlarker!! Metal detection doesn't hold a candle to what these people are finding! As it is, I have to settle for the things I find along the banks of the Ohio River after a flood....I live quite near Anderson Flats and a nice shallow 'beach'. Mostly I have some beautiful pieces of driftwood, a few bottles, and lots of beautiful 'sea glass'.

Hello Andy and Josie, you Squelch LEGENDS! Welcome Uncle Graham and Camille🎉😊❤ I love the various span of timelines of the amazing artifacts you find (secretly, I hope for Roman finds or anything ancient). 8:00 Seeing the 🧠coral was cool! Beautiful finds, as always! I love the history and images. The round up at the end with you two is almost as fun as watching you slog through thick layers of mud.😅 It reminds me of when I was eight years old: The first showing of Star Wars had come out in a theater near us (that should tell you how old I am), so me and my brothers and sisters went to see it (well, my sisters wanted to see it and had to drag my brother and I along lol). We had to walk through a huge field which was pure mud- at least 6” deep the whole time. I lost my shoe halfway there and had to be carried until we got to Mc Donald’s, where I was promptly hosed off in the sink.😂 I’m pretty sure I watched the movie with only one shoe. Thanks for sharing the fruits of your labors with us. Much love to you! ❤😊 PS, I forgot to mention last time that your new sweatshirt colors are great! I’m going to stop by your Etsy shop in February and see if I can pick out some birthday items for my loved ones. Can’t wait to see what you’ve got in there. Take care and God bless you👋🥰
