Honestly I can't imagine what that was like especially for the senior staffers to wake up to that email. Seeing all those Twitter posts was just so sad, I hope they're all able to find work asap. I'm sure the game will be fine but this is just such a scummy thing to do to people's lives. You said it yourself, you just *know* Tim is still gettin that fat bonus at the end of the year and everything. But yeah I'm sure the game will carry on much as it is now. It'll be interesting to see how it's gonna change.

Seems like people who were mostly in marketing and social media we're affected, and some level designers got the boot so I don't think this will affect the game too much but only a little as they regroup and figure things out.

I think the main reason for the layoffs was probably over hiring during the pandemic. You touched on it a bit at the end of the vid but its been a common theme in the tech industy and not surprised that epic and unity have felt pressure to cut costs by trimming down their workforce. Its just sad to hear so nany level designers were let go since i think their creations are significantly bettet than abything ive seen built with creative

It's one of the many reasons why they had to layoff people on mass, I was shocked to see level designers get the boot, thought they would utilise their knowledge and to build the levels in creative mode, but I guess they were too expensive and with creative you could have a Junior designer make them for far cheaper but that's my theory anyways.

So they mismanaged their company, but Mediatonic had to take the hit? I think they were contemplating simplifying Fall Guys to be more like Stumble Guys for a while, but they're using this as an excuse to cut staff. I'm glad the game isn't going away, but it's so horrible how they've been treated. It's just a shame they were bought by Epic.

It does seem to be that way, the recent solo quick show is capped at 32 which if I recall correctly the same cap that stumble guys has.

Definitely. Also remember that businesses arent stupid, they dont just lay off people at random and they dont lay off their best workers for no reason. People like Max Boyle for example, who has worked on some great levels, isn't as necessary now that levels are being made with creative. Who knows, its possible that cutting workers could even speed up development.

Thank you for making a detailed video on this. I was following the lawsuits back in the day and was just like bro you think you can take on Apple and Google you need a reality check. I was right in the end and they accomplished nothing and just waisted who knows how much money. I honestly thought because of those lawsuits that Fall Guys was never going to come to mobile but it seems like it may one day still. I've seen countless acquisitions of gaming studios and how the company that purchased them just ruins the games and I'm just tired of it all at this point. I rarely purchase games anymore and just stick to free to play. I'm tired of spending my hard earned money on crappy game after crappy game because no one knows what they're doing anymore. I know I'm being overly cynical but gaming is just going in the wrong direction lately. I could give countless examples such as how Stumble Guys shop is gambling city in a sense but I'll leave it at that.

This sucks. Fall guys said that there moving out of seasons the make more frequent updates but epic games "HAD" to fire alot of employees and slow down the progression for more updates like why?

Unfortunately, it wasn't only Mediatonic staff that got affected I believe Rocket League & Fortnite staff got the boot as well, however it seems like mediatonic was the most affected as they only had like 300 staff, at least according to the Mediatonic website anyways.

Wow. I hate to see that so many people are losing their jobs, especially now when inflation is so high and everything is so expensive. I really hope all those who got laid off can find work soon. I'm also worried about Fall Guys future since it has only a few thousand players, when Fortnite has millions. It makes me think Epic might start de-prioritizing the game to try to cut costs and make enough money to stay afloat. But thanks for summarizing this so well Izzy, your video cleared up a lot of questions I had about the situation.

I wish we had a concreate player count on Fall Guys; the steam numbers are the only ones we can see and that isn't a good representative of player count as majority of PC players probably launch the game of the Epic launcher.

I really didn't 100% get what happened to the Epic Games employees until I saw this video. But it's such a horrible thing that could've definitely been avioded. It's unfair and inhuman to layoff people just like that when they could've very possibly been kept in some way. My heart goes out to everyone that was affected by the layoffs. I hope they find better jobs.

I used to respect epic as someone who played fortnite an awful lot before getting fall guys (I have 3000 hours in fortnite combined over about 3 years, yet I’m still trash) but after this I honestly hate them with a burning passion, though I am forced to hope they succeed for the future of fall guys.

I've played Fall Guys for a little over 2 years and have 2300 hours on it, I'd get into the game on the first season of epic buying mediatonic, and back then it wasn't too bad, sure the content drought would get worse but at least the skins could be purchased with currency you can grind for. Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat as you as well, since my channel relies on fall guys, I'm forced to hope for the success of fall guys.

I think it is terribly sad that a lot of these developers lost their jobs. With that being said, however, the last “season” of fall guys maps was pathetic at best. It’s pretty bad that map creators with zero experience and zero professional graphic design education are making maps that blow fall guys creator maps out of the water. And with half of the equipment and items accessible to the developers at fall guys. I hope the game does not go extinct, but it has been on life-support for quite a while. 😢

Epic did say fall guys is "a company priority" but they could be saying that to save face, but I don't think there willing to let it go especially since its the closest thing to fortnite that they have. what are you talking about? They already destroyed it when they took possession of it, made you have to sign in to a stupid epic account and made it F2P...I say good riddance. They already broke my heart because I bought this game a month within release. I bought this game on Steam. What Mediatonic did was disrespectful and a BIG betrayal of respect and trust. They made their beds, now let them sleep in it. I didn't play it after it left Steam. I REFUSE to make an EPIC account. I am happy to say that I got 420 hours of fun out of it before that stupid business decision though. Really fun game, stupid business choices.

One of this is not like the other, updates every month is a good thing if you said an update every few months like we had preseason 10 and content drought then you'd have a point. I'll agree with you on the show buck's thing, but really not the end of the world. Mediatonic employees getting laid off is sad and don't want to undermine that but it's something mediatonic can bounce back from, it may take time but they'll be fine.

Fall Force was a pretty decent update imo, but yeah Tool up brought some nice stuff like overlapping being a feature rather then a bug and the budget increase. Game just feels boring to play, can hope they release a new mode for Creative since we've had race for over half a year now.

honestly mid eatonic did nothing for like 4 months so epic taking over half of them is really good because they will probably bring back seasons and unity maps unlike mediatonic that wanted to focus on fall guys (biggest dissapointment) creative that nobody cares about and made the game slowly die, so im pretty happy that some epic staff will join mediatonic. still, people that should get fired should be lead designers like joe walsh and not level designers or smth

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle, though we have testimonials saying that since epic got MT things haven't going so great.

Idk much about the epic store as I only use steam, but when I did use epic store one time to install fall guys just to test it out it was the most confusing thing lol.

why destroy? it doesnt change a bit.. the game doesnt need all that stuf.. it barely updates radically. .just minor changes.. anyomne can do it.. so i dont think the game will be destroyed.. it just stays mostly same.
