Thank you to everyone for the overwhelming kindness and support. I know that I paid more than I normally would for the book of halves. I wanted to support the kid and do something nice for him. It's not always about making the most profit possible. It's better to be kind to your fellow man! Stay safe and make sure to take care of one another!
@RavenHawkCoins well if you made a deal already I can't do anything about that but I would have let you make much more than that...but amazing find and congrats my brother.. Hebrews 13:2
@@wileecoyote5749 you obviously know nothing about me. Believe what you want. But you're way off. You should practice due diligence before implying that anyone is lying.
@@RobFindsTreasure thank you, brother Rob. He was really happy and thankful that I was honest cause I could have snagged it for almost nothing. Thank you for watching ☺️
Can’t put a price on integrity and a conscience. Good for you for doing the honest and right thing. That’s an awesome score. I never find silver at any of the garage sales or estate sales I go to.
Hey Raven, really cool find and long time no see. I have dealt with many health issues with my heart and diabetes. Think everything is under control now but it cost me my coin collection. Going to try and get it going again. Hard to find boxes of coins in my area to hunt though.
Hey Scott, good to see you! I am glad you have your health improving for you. I have wondered where you have been. I hope you are able to join us for the live auctions on Thursday nights! We always have cool stuff and even cooler Give-Aways! Boxes of coins are hard to find in this area as well. Coin hunting has exploded in popularity.
@@yocs_nav Thank you, brother. Being fair and kind is important. It took a little while to get through it all lol but I was glad to help. Thanks for watching 😊
Good job! Thank you for doing the right thing. He was lucky you pulled the book out before someone "shady" offered less than melt. Proud of you, Brother!👍
It is gratifying to me to see evidence of integrity in the coin world. So often there are those who only seek to take advantage of unknowing relatives of a collector. Since I know you in association with Silver Seeker and Rob Finds Treasure. I am gratified that you are a cut from the same cloth. I wish you much success on your channel. O BTWi miss the live chats you all used to have once in a while. I hope you all continue them again. Blessings!!
@charlesroof7121 Thank you for the kind words and support. It's important, as you know, to treat people fairly and honestly. I am just doing what is right. I hope Rob, Seeker, and I have time to do the chats as well. Thank you again!
That is a great find! Sad in a way that the father didnt share this hobby with this kid(s), I try to at least show my kids what I'm collecting so they are aware, whether they care or not, LOL. If I came across that find, it would be hard to be honest in that situation, so I applaud your honesty there!
@Vysterion thank you, brother. It's often tempting to be a low-baller as I do this to support my family. However, my conscience would eat at me. Honesty, Integrity, and Transparency are important. I agree that it's important to share this type of hobby with your family. Had the wrong person come along he would probably only sold the book for a few bucks.
Good things come to those that are patient.Being fair to others will bring good karma to you my friend.I'm happy that you were the one to find the book. You made a fair deal and both parties were happy.Much respect to you and for you.
Nice find! I'm glad you offered him a fair price. I'm sure you could have shorted him - but I know you wouldn't have! As long as both participants in a transaction are happy it makes the deal so much better!
That was a very fair price. I doubt most people would have paid anything over spot. I'm sure some wouldn't have paid that much even. Glad you were able to get a good deal!
@@TheQuickSilver101 I appreciate it. Always try and be fair. I know some dealers would literally just act like it was worth less than or equal to melt. Best to be honest!
Raven, Glad that you were the first to see the coins in the book.. No doubt someone would have taken advantage of the kid... As you said pays to be honest.
The grey sheet was completely unnecessary…. You could’ve used myriad silver conversion apps to come up with a viable offer. You paid $1000+ for a book that’s worth $675 at best. I appreciate your honesty and I’m glad the guy didn’t get hosed, but you grossly overpaid.
@longacre1041 You're using straight melt value on the coins if they were all circulated. We are all welcome to have differing opinions, but in the end, I did what was right by my ethics and morals. Maybe I paid more than most would, but I don't do this to rip people off or squeeze every last penny of profit out of good people.
@@RavenHawkCoins There is nothing there with any real numismatic value to justify paying much more than melt. If you want to overpay for something on the basis of ‘morals’ and/or ‘ethics’, that’s fine, but you did in fact overpay. Unnecessarily so imo.
@longacre1041 we can agree to disagree. As there are some in there that are worth way more than melt. Plus, the toning and cameo on the proofs. Also, you can't get 90% for the exact melt price unless you own a coinshop....
@@RavenHawkCoins You are correct…. You wouldn’t be able to walk into an LCS and purchase these @ melt/spot. However, imo estate/garage sale or flea market finds typically represent a buying opportunity for close to melt pricing. To each their own… if you’re happy with your decision that’s really all that matters. I just think it’s important to point out that your experience here is the exception to the rule. You purchased these coins with a collector’s mentality, which is perfectly fine. A lot of folks would’ve based their offer with the intent to resale, which is ok too.
One has to be careful re selling estates. We cleaned out my father-in-laws home and he had a large bookshelf. We were selling books for 50 cents and a dollar until a literature teacher said do you realize that there are a number of first editions. I shut the book sale down immediately. I found out later that one of the books was not supposed to be ever out of the family. This I found in a family will from 1847. I later found this book sold for $2000 and was put in a special room for important books with humidity control.
@ellisandrews440 sometimes people just don't realize what they have. It's good you were able to save some of the collection. A bummer that the one book is no longer. Thank you for sharing your story!
@@RavenHawkCoins absolutely brother that’s what makes the world go round. Now say if I was an employee at a coin store or something, I would be all about getting people as much value as I could, just all about the place and situation in my opinion. I will definitely check out more of your content, I’ve heard a lot of good things about you throughout the community.
What am I missing? Melt on that whole book is like $300, tops. Why are you paying 3.5x melt at a clueless guy's garage sale? To put it another way, $1050 is 33x face... that's over what a ripoff coin shop would sell these for... how are you making money?
@theprof73 you're just way off base. 14 Walkers, 36 Franklins, 2 90% Kennedys, 9 40% Kennedys... so 52 90% coins to start... melt value alone is $22.56 per dollar... for well circulated silver. That's $575.28 plus the 9 40% coins are roughly $4.65 per coin = $41.85 for a total of $617.13 just in melt. Not taking into account the numismatic value of better condition, proofs, toning, and better dates. Your statement tells me that you think $5.76 per 90% half dollar is the going rate. Please tell me the coin shop that you can buy all that for $300. I will personally buy all they have and make a fortune off of it.
Bullshit story ya you found the book that someone didn't know it was there with coins in it .trust me today everybody knows what they have now days. Just a story tale for youtube ya one thousand 50 dollars running around with going to garage sales.
@markbelanger7394 You obviously know nothing about me. I don't need to make up any "story for RU-vid." My reputation speaks for itself. I have given away thousands and thousands of dollars in gold and silver over the years. Multiple large giveaways on a weekly basis for over 5 years. Just cause you're a pessimistic person doesn't give you the right to question my integrity. I see people all the time who don't have a clue of what they inherited from their loved ones, and I pay them a fair price.
